Why no action against Akmal over racially-charged, divisive statements, says Ramkarpal

Predeep Nambiar

The former deputy law minister says the Umno Youth chief can be probed for sedition among others.

Former deputy law minister Ramkarpal Singh questioned why no action had been taken against Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh despite his ‘extreme and unacceptable’ statements.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former deputy law minister Ramkarpal Singh has questioned the apparent “immunity” granted to Dr Akmal Saleh following remarks on the national flag being hoisted upside down, and proposed that the Umno Youth chief be investigated for sedition.

Ramkarpal (PH-Bukit Gelugor) said Akmal had issued several “extreme and unacceptable” statements, which were divisive and contained racial undertones.

He said such statements had the potential to threaten public order.

“Yet, until now, there has been no action taken by the authorities against Akmal.

“My question is, why? Does he have immunity or privilege from investigation or prosecution?” he said when debating the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat.

Ramkarpal said he had been informed that several police reports have been lodged against Akmal.

He said there were several possible offences that the firebrand politician may have committed.

Apart from possible offences under the Sedition Act, Akmal could be investigated for criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and statements conducing to public mischief, he said.

“I urge the relevant ministry to respond urgently as to whether action will be taken soon,” Ramparkal said.

He also said Akmal’s “ultimatum” to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to charge someone within a set timeframe was inappropriate and put undue pressure on the investigation.

He questioned the AGC’s stance on this matter.

“Will it issue a statement warning Akmal not to interfere in the investigation? If not, why is action not being taken when it is clear that action should be immediate?”

Ramkarpal said the authorities must act without delay to uphold the rule of law and send a message that no one is above it, regardless of political position.

Akmal had called for public action against a 59yearold hardware shop owner in Penang who accidentally hoisted the Jalur Gemilang upside down, an error the owner quickly corrected after realising the mistake.

The controversy began when Akmal threatened to stage a demonstration at the hardware shop if the owner was not charged by Thursday, saying he would “give a class to teach this ‘ah pek’ how to correctly put up a flag”.

Police today advised against the protest, given that the owner had already addressed the issue.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13, 2025: The racial and religious bigoted Umno youth chief Dr Akmal ‘Dr Ham/I Am Malay First’ Saleh is most certainly a threat to multi-racial Malaysia’s national unity and harmony.

Come the next general election (GE16) which is due in 2027, multi-racial Malaysians who treasure national unity and harmony must unanimously unite to send Akmal and Umno to their “political grave” so as to save Malaysia.

He and Umno are in the same political shithole as the Taliban-like PAS and the racist Perikatan Nasional (PN)-Bersatu led by the unpatriotic Muhyiddin “I Am Maly First” Yassin.

For Malaysians in the peninsula, they have no choice but to stick with Pakatan Harapan (PH), comprising PKR, DAP and Amanah.

Self-Proclaimed Malay, Muslim Champion Akmal Saleh Is Epitome Of Disharmony In Malaysia

13 August, 2025

ACADEMICIAN and political commentator Prof Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi is seen to be spearheading a campaign to clamp down the rightist influence of UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

This follows the issuance of a six-sided joint statement entitled “Malaysians Against the Disrespectful Behaviour of Akmal Saleh and a Memorandum for National Harmony” led by him.

Other signatories of the joint statement are former Sungai Benut MP Mohamed Tawfik Tun Dr. Ismail, orthopedic surgeon Dr Mohd. Razif Mohd. Ali and individuals Mohamed Halim, Choy Meng Hooi and Poh Teik Heng.

Recall that some squabbles are brewing between both Tajuddin and Akmal since Friday (Feb 14) after the former having ‘conferred’ top prize to the Merlimau state assemblyman for setting new low in Malay politics.

This prompted a retaliation from Akmal who claimed that he would have no qualms to nominate the Islamic Architecture professor at the UCSI University for the Si Kitol (traitor of the Malay race) award “for sucking up and remaining silent when the Malay race and Islam are insulted”.

Taking a cue from the recent JAKIM furore over needless guidelines on Muslims interacting with non-Muslims from social ceremonies to funerals, the joint statement accused Akmal of having sown discord after discord via his relentless attacks on non-Malay personalities on issues of race and religion.

“While respecting Akmal for being a self-proclaimed ‘champion’ of the Malays and of the Muslims we totally disagree with his socially and spiritually destructive methods and statements,” read the statement.

“He had taunted a veteran Chinese politician as Nyonya Tua. He had called on Malays to boycott a Chinese businessman ‘sampai bankrap’. He had called a Chinese minister of the unity government as ‘stupid’.

“He had recently called out a young Chinese MP to ‘better die’. His manner of speaking can easily be interpreted as menacing, threatening and certainly insulting. He should follow the example of Melaka statesmen like the late Tun Abdul Ghafar.”

Wondering how the nation building process can progress with young leaders like Akmal at the helm, the joint statement further demanded that Akmal “apologises to all Malaysians unreservedly for his past and present behavior and promises to uphold the Rukun Negara.”.

“We Malaysians, in turn, promises to forgive and begin our relationship with him in a clean slate,” proposed the joint statement.

“We also ask UMNO to ensure that it advises and reprimand all of its members who act like Akmal in the future, and to remind them of the Rukun Negara, Federal Constitution and the laws enacted after the May 13 tragedy to ensure harmony and peace.”

Rafidah : “If Akmal Cannot Even Try To Emulate Our Great Prophet , In Terms Of How He Treated Others, Then Akmal Has Not Upheld What Islam Expects Of Him”

13 August, 2025

A former Wanita Umno chief has hit out at Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s behaviour following the controversy sparked by the sale of socks bearing the word “Allah”.

Rafidah Aziz said even Prophet Muhammad had shown “exemplary restrained behaviour” when confronted by those who were hostile towards him. She said Prophet Muhammad did not allow his ego to get in the way.

“If people like the Umno Youth chief cannot even try to emulate our great Prophet , in terms of how he treated others, then Akmal has not upheld what Islam expects of him,” she told FMT.

Akmal had previously dismissed an apology made by the convenience store chain KK Mart after photographs of the socks, sold at a KK Mart store, appeared on social media. He deemed the apology insufficient, and pushed for a boycott. Akmal, who is the assemblyman for Merlimau, Melaka, also said he was willing to lose his post to defend Islam.

Rafidah said the nation did not need rabble-rousers like Akmal who would only divide Malaysians. She said the government must not allow itself to get caught in a difficult situation of managing rebel-rousers and should ensure that tensions do not escalate.

“There are already so many pressing issues to address and manage without being distracted by such unwarranted problems, like the socks. Action is already being taken and no one should be allowed to politically capitalise on it. Enough already,” she said.

The photographs of the socks posted on social media last Wednesday had earned the ire of the Muslim community.

On Saturday, the company apologised and expressed regret over the incident.

However, on Wednesday, Akmal vowed to continue calling for a boycott of KK Mart, despite advice from party officials that the issue not be prolonged. He said “no one will be able to stop me even if they try.”

He also demanded that the company put up banners at all of its 881 stores nationwide to apologise for the sale of the socks, threatening a stronger boycott should it fail to comply.

Earlier today, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party’s Supreme Council fully supported the Umno Youth chief’s stand.

Akmal Should Protest In Front Of The UMNO Terengganu Office & Organize Classes For All UMNO Members Nationwide12 August, 2025

FOLLOWING the recent upside-down flag blunder in Penang, national unity minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang urged the public not to jump to conclusions and for politicians to avoid provocative statements or actions that could worsen the situation.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke had also urged Malaysians not to resort to intimidation over mistakes in displaying the Jalur Gemilang.

He said that recent controversies over incorrectly displayed flags have sparked heated debate and risk diverting attention from upcoming National Day celebrations.

“There is no need for any party to ‘fish in troubled waters’, let alone threaten to protest in front of the business premises involved or to ‘teach’ people how to fly the flag,” he said.

“Such actions are a form of bullying and will certainly be rejected by Malaysians,” he added.

The 59-year-old man caught on video raising the Jalur Gemilang upside-down is expected to face charges in court soon.

North Seberang Perai police chief Anuar Abd Rahman confirmed that police have wrapped up investigations and have recorded statements from 10 witnesses, while the accused has been released on bail pending instructions from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).

In a TikTok video uploaded earlier, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh urged participants to gather outside the shop concerned and to bring their own Jalur Gemilang to “teach” the shopkeeper how to attach the national flag properly.

A reader of The Vibes recently pointed out that a poster on the Pemuda Umno Negeri Terengganu Facebook page had also carried a Jalur Gemilang with only 12 stripes, while it should be 14 of alternating red and white stripes.

The 14 stripes of equal width, represent the equal status in the federation of the 13 member states and the federal territories, while the 14 points of the star represent the unity among these entities.

While everyone agrees that there must be utmost respect for the national flag, enforcement must adhere to the Rule of Law and not political ultimatums or threats.

The country cannot be run on arbitrary deadlines set by politicians like Akmal Saleh but instead focus on promoting patriotism through proper education.

The Vibes believes the authorities will do the right thing and not adhere to the public intimidation tactics and ‘cheap political theatrics’ practised by Akmal Saleh.

As pointed out by Deputy President of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa – misunderstandings surrounding the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang – whether intentional or accidental – must be addressed in the spirit of mutual guidance rather than through hatred or hostility.

He cautioned that failing to handle such matters tactfully could worsen the situation, emphasising the need for respect and decency even when correcting mistakes.

Akmal threatens ‘class’ for man who flew flag upside down if he’s not charged

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has threatened to give the hardware store owner in Penang a “class” in the form of a protest if he is not charged in court by Thursday.

“We will give the prosecutors two days … tomorrow and Wednesday.

“If no charges are made against this person by Thursday, I will go and give a class to teach this ‘ah pek’ how to correctly put up a flag,” he said in a video on Facebook.

“If this is hushed up … no matter, we will wait for the prosecutors to decide whether to charge or not.

“We ask for this person to be charged under a section (of the law) that provides for a stiffer sentence,” he said.

Yesterday, police arrested the 59-year-old hardware store owner for hoisting the Jalur Gemilang upside down the day before.

Acting Penang police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office today for further action.

He said 16 reports had been received nationwide over the incident, including 12 from within Penang.

The video of the incident showed a man hoisting the flag while another recorded it.

Malaysiakini reported that the hardware shop owner said he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the flag and did not notice that it was upside down.

The owner said he rectified the mistake immediately after realising it.

He apologised for the blunder and lodged a report at the Kepala Batas police station to provide an explanation.

Racism, Hypocrisy & Double Standard – Why Non-Malays Should Stop Flying Flags To Avoid Persecution

12 August, 2025

According to Finance Twitter , A hardware owner in Penang did not expect his demonstration of patriotism – flying the national flag – would turn into a nightmare when he was being targeted by both politicians and police forces after accidentally installed and hoisted the flag “upside down”. The 59-year-old man must be kicking himself now for trying too hard to prove he’s a loyal citizen as National Day approaches.

Even though he had offered an explanation and apologized, it was too late. In other countries, he might receive praises for rushing to fly the national flag before the August 31 celebration out of pride. At most, he would receive a warning about the mistake. But in Malaysia, flying the so-called Jalur Gemilang the wrong way is worse than plundering national coffers or committing incest.

The man’s biggest mistake was not because he displayed the flag upside-down. His biggest mistake is his skin colour. He is an ethnic Chinese. Had he been a Malay, the majority race in the country, he would be given the usual slap on the wrist. It was not a coincidence that after Nazirul Hafiz posted a 20-second video of the flag blunder on Facebook account, all hell broke loose.

Hunting with sharp eyes like the American bald eagles, UMNO Youth Chief Akmal Saleh, notorious for preying on minority Chinese ethnic, happily grab his tasty meal thanks to Nazirul. The Chinese uncle, whom Akmal insulted as “Ah Pek”, is just another unlucky “second-class” Malaysian Chinese citizen that racist Akmal adds to his political trophy as he builds his “Malay hero” credential.

Making a mountain out of a molehill, the UMNO Youth plans to hold a mega rally to protest against the elderly Chinese man, even called him a “traitor” and ordered the Anwar government to take action. Under political pressure, errand boy Royal Malaysian Police, known for being one of the most corrupted institutions in Malaysia, quickly arrested the Chinese man on the same day of the incident (Aug 9).

The explanation of Feng Jin Zhen, the store owner, fell on deaf ears because his mistake was an incredible juicy political ammunition for racist Malay politicians like Akmal. Feng’s explanation – he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the national flag and did not notice that the flag was upside down – was like talking to a brick wall as far as the police force is concerned.

Penang state acting police chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said – “The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.” Warning the public to respect the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of national sovereignty, Mr Alwi said the police view such acts seriously and will take firm action.

Obviously, racism, hypocrisy and double standard are getting worse even under the Anwar administration. When the Education Ministry and Terengganu PAS government similarly insulted to the national flag previously, Akmal was “Missing in Action (MIA)” and pretended nothing had happened. Likewise, the Royal Malaysian Police was silent when the offenders were one of their own kind.

Yes, Akmal knew he could attack the non-Malays, especially the Chinese, whenever he likes because even Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim dares not lift a finger to apprehend him, let alone getting the useless Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution to order the police to arrest the UMNO Youth Chief. In fact, PM Anwar silently approved Akmal’s anti-Chinese provocation in order to strengthen UMNO.

Mr Akmal also knew that the Democratic Action Party (DAP), supposedly defender of ethnic Chinese, has become an eunuch under the weak leadership of toothless Anthony Loke. Like the impotent MCA (Malaysian Chinese Association), who had lost 95% support of the Chinese community it claimed to represent, DAP leaders are now drunk with power, perk and position so much so they are terrified of rocking the boat.

Worse, even Anwar’s own party – PKR or People’s Justice Party – is competing with UMNO in milking the flag fiasco to capture some Malay votes. Joining Akmal bandwagon, Penang PKR Youth bullied the Chinese man – “The Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and the pride of the Malaysian people. Flying it upside down is an unacceptable insult, especially as we celebrate the month of independence.”

Perhaps the Penang PKR Youth Chief Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal should explain whether his boss Anwar’s act of freeing the world’s biggest crook – Najib Razak – from prison is a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and the pride of the Malaysian people. Perhaps stealing billions from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund and made the country poorer by RM44 billion is an acceptable insult compared to flying the flag upside-down.

Perhaps Penang PKR Youth Chief Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal should explain whether his boss Anwar’s act of freeing ex-PM Najib Razak – the crook currently imprisoned for stealing billions from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund and made the country poorer by RM44 billion in debt – is a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and the pride of the Malaysian people. It appears plundering national coffers is an acceptable insult compared to flying the flag upside-down.

The political game is simple. PM Anwar, who is also PKR president, allows Akmal to attack the Chinese community so that the racist and corrupt UMNO could win back Malay voters it had lost since the 2018 General Election. PKR desperately needed the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) to deliver the critical Malay votes because PKR itself has failed to do so.

Because the next 16th General Election will most likely be fought directly between Anwar-led crowded multi-coalition government (primarily PKR-led Pakatan Harapan and UMNO-led Barisan Nasional) with opposition Perikatan Nasional, any increase of Malay voters for UMNO is also a win for PKR, which in turn will strengthen PKR’s demand for a second term premiership for Anwar.

Crucially, Malays’ support for PKR has peaked, even stagnated at 27%, well below the critical 35% threshold needed to secure vital parliamentary seats. More importantly, a bloc that could swing the election – about 28% of undecided Malay voters – will decide who will form the next government. Essentially, only UMNO Malay nationalist party could – hopefully – deliver the Malay votes.

PKR and UMNO’s top priority is Malay votes. Other ethnicities can be sacrificed. At the same time, UMNO quietly hopes to return to its past glory – a dominant party so that it can rule on its own again without sharing power. If UMNO could recapture its Malay supporters who had abandoned it, the party could leave its current ally Pakatan Harapan and form a new government on its own.

UMNO has nothing to lose by constantly punching the Chinese. It had already lost 95% of the Chinese votes anyway after MCA was decapitated. On the contrary, Akmal, clearly outsourced by UMNO President Zahid Hamidi to do the dirty work, could help drive racist UMNO-Malays to return to the party by intimidating, bullying and attacking the minority Chinese.

But what about the risk of losing Chinese supporters? Both Anwar and Zahid believe they have the formula to lock in the vote bank. What they needed to do is to warn the Chinese that the alternative – racist bigot Bersatu and religious extremist PAS – is worse, and voila, the Chinese community will blindly vote like lemmings for PKR and UMNO come rain or shine.

That explains why both PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and UMNO president Zahid Hamidi have never bothered to defend the Chinese community whenever scumbag Akmal assaults the minorities. They were betting that the Chinese have no options but to support Pakatan Harapan or Barisan Nasional because they are the lesser of two evils compared to Opposition Perikatan Nasional.

The strategy of joining forces in the next election to prevent three-cornered fights, which will benefit the opposition due to votes split especially in Malay-majority constituencies, PKR and UMNO believe they would win easily. And if the Chinese choose to stay at home rather than to vote, Anwar could easily blame DAP, the same way MCA took the blame after decades of UMNO bullying.

It does not make sense that a Chinese business owner had nothing better to do and deliberately raised the national flag upside-down just to get himself into trouble. The solution is simple – all non-Malays should stop flying flags. It’s safer and wiser not to display the Malaysian flag and be accused of unpatriotic than to display the flag and risk being arrested but still being branded unpatriotic and all types of nonsense.

Make no mistake – you don’t break any law by not displaying national flag. But you certainly break the law by showing the flag the wrong way, either deliberately or accidentally. Like it or not, this is not a good time to show patriotism (which they don’t appreciate anyway) because racist mad dogs like UMNO-Akmal are running the show. At the end of the day – display national flag at your own risk.

Global Survey : Malaysia Ranked 2nd Most Racist Country In The World

12 August, 2025

Racial discrimination in Malaysia is a very touchy subject even in the 21st century. It’s one thing for Malaysians to be racist with each other but when that racial discrimination gets global attention, Malaysians do not take it lightly.

According to a recent global survey done by a data portal, IndexmundiMalaysia ranked at 2nd place for racial discrimination, behind South Africa.

Problem Explanation

Racial discrimination is a deeply rooted issue that has profound consequences for individuals, communities, and the overall fabric of society. Here are key reasons why racial discrimination in a country is considered a problem:

1. Violation of Human Rights: Racial discrimination constitutes a violation of basic human rights, denying individuals the right to equal treatment, dignity, and freedom from discrimination.

2. Undermining Social Cohesion: Discrimination based on race fractures social cohesion by creating divisions and fostering a sense of inequality. This can lead to tension, mistrust, and the fragmentation of communities.

3. Impact on Mental Health: Racial discrimination has detrimental effects on the mental health of individuals who experience it, leading to stress, anxiety, depression, and other psychological consequences.

4. Economic Disparities: Racial discrimination contributes to economic disparities, limiting opportunities for marginalized racial groups in education, employment, and wealth accumulation. This perpetuates cycles of poverty and inequality.

5. Reduced Access to Opportunities: Discrimination denies individuals equal access to educational, employment, and advancement opportunities, hindering their personal and professional development.

6. Undermining Diversity and Inclusion: Discrimination hampers efforts to build diverse and inclusive societies. Embracing diversity fosters creativity, innovation, and the richness that comes from different perspectives and experiences.

7. Legal and Social Injustice: Racial discrimination leads to legal and social injustice, as individuals may face unfair treatment in the legal system, law enforcement, and various institutions.

8. Political Instability: Persistent racial discrimination can contribute to political instability, as marginalized groups may face exclusion from political processes and experience systemic inequalities.

9. Violence and Conflict: Racial discrimination can escalate into violence and conflict, with discriminatory practices fuelling social unrest and animosities between different racial or ethnic groups.

10. Global Reputation: Countries that tolerate or perpetuate racial discrimination may suffer damage to their global reputation, affecting diplomatic relations, trade partnerships, and international cooperation.

Stop Racism: Blaming All Malaysian Chinese For Flag-Related Issues Is Unfair – Stop Targeting Malaysian Chinese For Political Gain

12 August, 2025

According to Norman Radzuan , Kenapa Cina buat kita kecoh, Melayu buat kita diam?

Isu bendera ini bukan baru… malah dlm majlis sukan antarabangsa juga berlaku insiden seperti ini. Isu begini sepatutnya ditangani dgn baik bukan dipolitikkan.

Viral photo of upside-down Jalur Gemilang at police HQ from 2016: Cops. Seremban police have clarified that a viral image showing the Malaysian flag being flown upside-down at the district police headquarters is not a recent incident

All parties are reminded not to rush to make assumptions regarding the recent viral incident in which the Malaysian flag was displayed upside down, says Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang (pic).

The National Unity Minister said the act of displaying the Malaysian flag upside down is inappropriate and contrary to the proper protocol for flying the national flag as stipulated in the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, but the actual cause of the incident must first be determined.

“In the spirit of unity, we should not hastily make assumptions before the results of a complete investigation are available,” he said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday (Aug 11).

Aaron said the incident could have been intentional or due to an error or public ignorance about the correct way to fly the Jalur Gemilang.

Resolve flag blunder issue via law, not UMNO Youth’s “selective mob justice” manner

THE national level DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) strongly condemn the statement of UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who urged the public to “visit” a business premise located in Kepala Batas, Penang “to right” the issue of the Jalur Gemilang being hung upside down.

This action not only gives the impression that Dr Akmal wants to act like an authority but such an approach itself does not uphold the rule of law.

National DAPSY therefore slams the hypocritical and double-standard attitude shown by Dr Akmal on the Jalur Gemilang issue.

Has the Melaka state EXCO ever mobilised the public to “visit” the Education Ministry (MOE) and the Terengganu PAS headquarters which have also committed mistakes of a similar nature?

The answer is negative which clearly shows how hypocritical the current UMNO Youth chief is.

Malaysia is a constitutional country based on the rule of law. Any action that violates the law or regulations – including blunders in the flying of the Jalur Gemilang – should be dealt with according to existing procedures and regulations, not through actions that involve intimidation or ‘mob justice’.

‘Political gimmick’

Patriotic awareness cannot be fostered through threats but through consistent education.

DAPSY insists that action should be taken against lawbreakers in a manner consistent with the law.

However, the act of magnifying the issue and mobilising the public to “teach the perpetrators a lesson” is just a political gimmick that does not benefit national unity. A representative of the people should play a role in uniting the people, not causing tension.

DAPSY believes that errors in flying the national flag constitutes an action that must be punished according to the law.

However, what is dangerous to the society today is the attitude of some politicians like Dr Akmal who chooses to politicise such issues for personal gain.

Our country does not need “moral police”; instead, Malaysia needs leaders who prioritise peace, harmony and the integrity of the law.

On this note, National DAPSY calls on all parties, especially Dr Akmal who has repeatedly divided the multi-racial community, to stop the culture of confrontational politics which only creates hatred and division.

Our country will be more developed if we use the methods of dialogue, continuous education and willingness to obey the law.

PAS Apologises for Jalur Gemilang Design Error on Event Poster, Says It was an “Unintentional Technical Issue”

PAS Terengganu has issued a public apology for a design error on its “Himpunan Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (TMT) 2025” event teaser poster, which featured a Malaysian flag with an incorrect number of points on its star.

The error was spotted by Malaysians online after the event teaser poster was shared by Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, with many calling him and the party out for the error.

Specifically, netizens noticed that the Jalur Gemilang, which was put on the left side of the PAS flag, had only 11 points on the “Federal Star” instead of 14 points.

In case you’re not familiar, the 14-point star on the Jalur Gemilang, known as the “Federal Star”, is symbolic of the unity of Malaysia’s 13 member states and the federal territories.

Besides that, the logo also features 12 red-and-white stripes instead of 14, which is meant to represent the equal status in the federation for the 13 member states and the federal territories.

Following the backlash, PAS Terengganu took to its official Facebook page to issue a public apology and rectify the error.

In the post, the Himpunan TMT 2025 secretariat “expressed its deepest appreciation and thanks” to those who pointed out the Jalur Gemilang error on the Himpunan TMT 2025 teaser logo design.

“We would like to express our sincere apologies to all citizens and supporters for the unintentional technical error and have taken immediate action to withdraw the use of the logo.”
