Umno’s governance responsible and accountable to TH’s multi-billion RM losses

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5, 2026: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two senior Tabung Haji (TH) officials in its probe into the TH Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).

And, at lease one Umno man, Khairy Jamaluddin (the former leader of the former 4th Floor boys who hijacked the rime Minister’s Office when his sleepy head father-in-law was prime minister), is facing reality.

The former Umno youth chief said Umno should acknowledge governance weaknesses at TH during the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration from 2014 to 2017, as highlighted in the RCI report on the institution.

Talk is easy and cheap! Do you think Umno can really accept responsibility and accountability?

If it did, why is the party of pencuri-pencuri (thieves) still lobbying for the freedom of their and country’s No. 1 pencuri, the disgraced former Umno president and prime minister Najib “1MDB” Razak, who curi millions, if not billions, of Ringgit from rakyat dan negara (people and country)?

Has Umno changed their governance since Merdeka (Independence) 1957.

Look at what happened in Johor and now Negri Sembilan. After winning two-thirds majority in their state assemblies, they immediatelly rewarded their cronies with deputy state executives, using rakyat’s money to pay salaries and perks!

So much for, demi rakyat dan negara!

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained two individuals in connection with a special investigation launched to review and examine findings from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

The two suspects, comprising a company director and a former plantation manager, were arrested after they arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to give statements.

The first suspect, a company director in his 50s, was detained at about 7.30pm on Monday after he was allegedly involved in a bribery case involving RM300,000 paid to a former chief operating officer (COO) of a statutory body.

The payment was allegedly made in exchange for securing projects worth a total of about RM8 million.

The alleged offence was believed to have taken place between 2014 and 2018, with the suspect accused of providing renovations to four houses owned by the former COO, with the total value estimated at RM300,000.

The second suspect, also in his 50s, is a former plantation manager of a company supplying rubber tree seedlings and was detained over alleged misappropriation involving contracts worth about RM8 million.

He is believed to have been involved in the alleged misuse of rubber seedling supply projects at two plantation companies, including a subsidiary of the statutory body, between 2015 and 2017.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests and said the first case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, while the second case was being investigated under Section 18 of the same Act.

The Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday granted a two-day remand order for the company director, while the former plantation manager was remanded for three days to assist investigations. - August 4, 2026 (The Vibes)

Khairy calls on UMNO to admit Tabung Haji governance failings to show reform commitment

The Ex-UMNO Youth chief calls on the party to acknowledge governance shortcomings at Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) during the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration between 2014 and 2017

Khairy says acceptance of past failures would demonstrate the party’s sincerity in pursuing reform after the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report - August 5, 2026

UMNO should acknowledge governance weaknesses at Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) during the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration from 2014 to 2017, as highlighted in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the institution, said former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said he understood the position taken by several Umno leaders following the release of the RCI findings, including their denial of any misconduct or corruption in TH’s management, particularly during the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.

However, he said such a stance was insufficient, especially as Umno seeks to present itself as a party undergoing reform.

"I do not expect them to take my view during the election campaign. Perhaps during the election campaign, we had to say there was no misappropriation, that we gave higher hibah and maintained hajj subsidies for muassasah pilgrims and so on.

"However, what I want to see now, perhaps ahead of the Umno General Assembly (PAU) next week, is that it is time for Umno to be honest about the matter and say there were governance failures.

"If we take that position, people will say that at least Umno has shown some signs of change in bringing the party towards recovery because it acknowledges the issue.

"We understand that during the Negeri Sembilan election campaign, it was not possible to say this, but at least there should be voices at PAU saying we cannot use excuses to sweep this matter under the carpet. Whatever was weak, failed or wrong, we must acknowledge it," he said.

Khairy made the remarks while hosting the Keluar Sekejap podcast, as reported by Berita Harian.

The declassified TH RCI report released last week revealed that the institution’s financial position had reached a critical stage in 2017, after accumulated losses rose to RM10 billion.

The report stated that the government was subsequently required to implement an urgent recovery plan to stabilise the organisation responsible for managing the savings and pilgrimage affairs of Malaysian Muslims.

Meanwhile, according to BH, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, who also co-hosted the podcast, said the issue presented an opportunity for Umno to demonstrate maturity by recognising its shortcomings, particularly amid signs of renewed public support for the party.

"Umno cannot take the current wave of support as proof that there is no need to reform, apologise and improve itself, and only rely on ordinary rhetoric that Malay unity and everything else are sufficient. This is about sustaining political momentum," he said. - August 5, 2026
