If Umno found guilty of using funds stolen or laundered from 1MDB, can it be deregistered?

Who’s the most moronic and foolish leader in Umno?

Of course there are many and extremely difficult to choose from. They line the streets … too many competitors for “honours”!

That’s the problem with Umno leaders. They speak up without using their head nor look at themselves in the mirror first.

One such leader has emerged - Umno Supreme Council member Annuar Musa.

He thinks he is really smart and is doing a great favour for his party and members when he insinuated that former Kelantan Umno chairman Mustapa Mohamed quit the party.

Annuar failed to see deep into the issue that may possibly spell the death of Umno.

Umno’s bank accounts have been frozen. Police have started probing into the possible use of funds stolen or laundered from 1Malaysia Development Berhad 1MDB).

Now, isn’t Annuar an amazing “bright spark”? That’s the quality of intelligent leadership for Umno members for you.

Here’s the news report that Annuar proudly tried to demonise Mustapa but, simply stupid.

Annuar Musa says Kelantan Umno, including Mustapa, were probed by police “for a few days” with regard to “some funds he received from somewhere”.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Supreme Council member Mustapa Mohamed was investigated and questioned by police prior to his departure from Umno, it was revealed today.

Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa said Kelantan Umno, including Mustapa, were probed by police “for a few days” with regard to “some funds he received from somewhere”.

“He received a substantial amount of funds. He was investigated and interrogated by police,” Annuar said at a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

Asked whether that was why Mustapa had decided to leave Umno, Annuar said the question needed to be posed to the man himself.

“This is because there are so many others who have been interrogated, but they did not leave the party,” he said.

The Jeli MP quit the party two days ago, saying the direction Umno was heading in was not in line with his principles.

“The party has not made any effort to convince me that it is rejuvenating itself,” the former international trade and industry minister had said in a statement.

Mustapa, who is the Kelantan Barisan Nasional chairman said, for him, Umno should be an “inclusive and moderate” party which took the middle ground.

Asked about Mustapa’s stand, Annuar said the former was not referring to Umno-PAS relations.

“You are not being fair to Tok Pa. That is not what he meant. He was not referring to Umno-PAS relations.

“Umno-PAS relations does not in any way indicate the direction Umno is going,” he said, adding that one would have to wait for the Umno presidential speech, where the president would spell out the direction of the party.

On Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin’s assertion that Mustapa had left because of the Umno alliance with PAS, Annuar said the former Youth leader’s remark was off the mark.

“KJ had tweeted as such. But when I checked, I found out that KJ had not spoken to Tok Pa as yet. So he was merely speculating. He was off the mark.

“I also have my own version. I know that Tok Pa did not leave Umno because of the cooperation with PAS. He has never rejected the notion of Umno working together with PAS,” he said.

The Ketereh MP said he met up with Mustapa three days ago, and pointed out that the issue was not about the Jeli MP being dissatisfied with Umno working with PAS.

“As a matter of fact Umno and PAS have yet to formalise anything. We are merely reciprocating by attending each other’s functions, and cooperating in the by-elections. There is nothing formal. We are not forming a coalition. We are just respecting each other and cooperating in the context of us as opposition.

“I am sure Tok Pa understands the real situation better. He could not have possibly left the party because of that.

“If it was really that then he would have waited for the Umno Supreme Council meeting, to air his views,” he added.

Umno may be deregistered, warns Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi does not discount the possibility of the party being deregistered in the wake of its accounts being frozen and leaders investigated.

“Rumours about this are circula ting. Apparently, there will be more party individuals who will be investigated or charged.

“We accept this but whatever form of action taken against the party or its members must be according to the law,” he told repor ters at the end of the Umno general assembly here yesterday.

He said a priority after the assembly was to recover all of Umno’s assets from its trustees and nominees.

“There is talk that we have billions of ringgit worth of assets but after initial checks against liabilities, it is not that much,” he said.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said legal action would also be taken against an individual who had been given the trust by a former party president to look after Umno’s assets.

However, he did not name the past president nor what had happened to Umno’s properties under the indvidual’s care.

Asked how Umno planned to finance itself after the freezing of its accounts, he said: “Our approach is low-cost but high-impact.”

On critics questioning his government-in-waiting stand, he said in politics, one should be prepared for any eventuality and seize opportunities that came knocking.

However, Dr Ahmad Zahid, who was presiding over the annual ge ne ral assembly for the first time, said while he did speak about the possibility, he did not give a specific timeline as to when this might happen.

“In politics, there is nothing static nor is there anything certain. We wouldn’t know what will happen.

“We cannot be jumud (close-minded). We must be open to changes,” he said during his winding up speech.

Pakatan Harapan government’s failure in keeping its manifesto pledges as well as its flip-flop decisions on certain policies, said Dr Ahmad Zahid, gave Umno – which has a large representation in Parliament – a good chance of returning to power.

He said those who wanted to criti cise should understand the issue and where his statement had come from.

“We want to bring Umno back to life (after GE14 defeat). Don’t poke holes in the ship and let it sink. If that’s the case, then you are a traitor to the party.

“Have some decorum when you want to criticise. This is Zahid, full stop,” he said, bringing on the fiery and aggressive style of his Umno Youth chief days.

On the rebranding of Barisan National, a task force would be set up to draw up a proposal, with Umno Youth, Wanita and the Puteri wings giving their input, he said, adding that the task force had 100 days to come up with the plan.

Barisan’s proposed rebranding will see Umno, MCA, MIC, MyPPP and PBRS as pillar parties in the coalition.

There will also be, among others, associated parties, Barisan-friendly parties and non-governmental organisations.
