Leave the US to rot, die naturally in global trade

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3, 2025: The mentally-challenged Donald Trump-led US has imposed reciprocal tariff on 49 countries, including Malaysia.

And, the Government is not considering imposing its own tariffs in retaliation to the US’ 24% reciprocal tariff on Malaysian imports.

And that is absolutely right. There will be no end to retaliatory responses.

Just leave Trump and the US to rot, die naturally in global trade.

The European Union, China, Russia and BRICS markets are big enough to sustain global trade.

And here’s why:

US Senator Roberts called his wife before leaving office, telling her that he was bringing two colleagues home after work.

He asked her to put away all the "Made in China" stuff at home to avoid being accused of not cooperating with Trump.

When he arrived with his guests, he saw that the door was gone, the windows were gone, and all the appliances, furniture and decorations in the house were all gone. His guests were shocked.

However the guests were thrilled when his wife came out to greet them, completely naked.

PETALING JAYA: The government is not considering imposing its own tariffs in retaliation to the US’s 24% reciprocal tariff on Malaysian imports.

The investment, trade and industry ministry (Miti) said it viewed the 24% tariff seriously and would actively engage US authorities in the hope of reaching a solution that upholds free and fair trade.

“The national geoeconomic command centre (NGCC) recently approved by the Cabinet will evaluate the impact of this recent US announcement and will consider a comprehensive and multi-pronged strategy to mitigate the effects of these tariffs on our economy and industries.

“The government is engaging the affected industries while exploring support programmes to help businesses adapt. Miti remains committed to open dialogue and collaboration to resolve trade disputes and promote mutual prosperity,” it said in a statement.

The ministry also expressed confidence that the economy would remain resilient despite the challenge, with domestic demand continuing to be the main driver of economic growth.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has been hit with a 24% reciprocal tariff by the US, effective April 9.

According to an executive order signed by US president Donald Trump yesterday, Malaysia is one of 49 countries slapped with reciprocal tariffs.

Other countries include Cambodia (49%), Laos (48%), Vietnam (46%), Myanmar (45%), Thailand (37%), China (34%), Indonesia (32%), Brunei (24%), and the Philippines (18%).

The highest rate of 50% was imposed on Lesotho, and the lowest of 11% on the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the executive order, Trump said it was the US’s policy to rebalance global trade flows by imposing the additional ad valorem duty on all imports from the 49 trading partners.

He said the additional ad valorem duty on imports from the trading partners would start at 10% from Saturday, and increase shortly after to the rates specified for the respective countries.

“These additional ad valorem duties shall apply until such time as I determine that the underlying conditions described above are satisfied, resolved, or mitigated,” he added.

Importers of goods from Singapore, which is not among the countries facing higher duties, will be subject to the standard 10% tariff.

The US president highlighted the lack of reciprocity in his country’s bilateral trade ties, disparate tariff rates and non-tariff barriers, as well as its trading partners’ economic policies which he said suppressed domestic wages and consumption.

“That threat has its source in whole or substantial part outside the US in the domestic economic policies of key trading partners and structural imbalances in the global trading system.

“I hereby declare a national emergency with respect to this threat,” he said.

The executive order also specified imports exempted from the reciprocal tariff, including copper, gold, timber, and pharmaceuticals.
