Umno’s Akmal is multi-racial Malaysia’s anti-national unity and harmony
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18, 2025: The racial and religious bigoted Umno youth chief Dr Akmal “Dr Ham/I Am Malay First” Saleh was questioned by police two days ago for organising an illegal rally outside a hardware shop in Kepala Batas, Penang.
There are ample evidence that show Akmal is a racist and that he had made a mockery of the so-called Madani Unity Government (UG)’s 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty).
FLASHBACK: Lawyer and social activist Siti Kasim said: "I recently saw a TikTok video where he (Akmal) was seen calling the Malays to be ready. He was seen sharpening a parang ... this is something the police must act on.
"It is like he is instigating the Malays to create problems. Islam never teaches us all this," said Siti.
FLASHBACK: A senator has asked why Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has yet to be investigated for sedition after posting a picture of himself holding a sword on Facebook. Akmal had posted the picture, taken during a recent trip to Japan, on March 14. The picture was captioned: “No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling.”
Yes, he has been questioned by police on several occasions but, that is all the police did to pacify racial tensions.
Still, Akmal faces no legal action whatsoever.
This time, will he be charged, after Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for action against provocateurs of racial and religious tensions?
Time will tell if it is still all Anwar and his UG’s NATO (No Action Talk Only).
Akmal is no nationalist. He’s just a racist rabble rouser and a threat to national unity and harmony.

Akmal’s Actions Have Spoiled Merdeka’s Spirit – Its Spirit Will Never Be the Same – Turning A Celebration Of Unity Into A Source Of Division & Fear
18 August, 2025
Merdeka, Malaysia’s Independence Day, has long been a symbol of unity, pride, and shared national identity. Celebrated annually on August 31, it marks the historic moment in 1957 when Malaysia gained freedom from British colonial rule. For decades, Malaysians have raised the Jalur Gemilang with joy, fostering a spirit of togetherness across diverse communities. However, recent actions by UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh have cast a shadow over this cherished occasion, turning a celebration of unity into a source of division and fear. His provocative response to incidents involving the national flag has not only disrupted the harmony of Merdeka month but may have altered its spirit for years to come.
Merdeka has always been a time to celebrate Malaysia’s multicultural fabric, where Malays, Chinese, Indians, and other communities unite under one flag. Akmal’s actions, however, have been criticized for targeting specific communities, particularly the Chinese, implying a lack of patriotism. By focusing on incidents at a Chinese-medium school and a Chinese-owned shop, his rhetoric risks deepening racial divides, contradicting the inclusive spirit Merdeka represents. Critics, including academic Tajuddin Rasdi, have labeled his actions as “provocative” and “racially charged,” accusing him of exploiting the flag issue for political gain rather than fostering unity.
Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) formed a human barricade to protect the shop owner, with director Zaid Malek accusing Akmal of behaving like a “Zionist” in his aggressive tactics. These responses highlight the widespread concern that Akmal’s actions have sown discord during a time meant for unity.
The controversy began with seemingly minor incidents: a flag hung upside down at a Chinese-medium school in Port Dickson and a similar mistake at a hardware shop in Kepala Batas, Penang. These errors, attributed to oversight, could have been resolved with a simple correction and a reminder of flag etiquette. Instead, Akmal seized these incidents to fuel public outrage, framing them as deliberate acts of disrespect toward Malaysia’s sovereignty.
In Kepala Batas, Akmal led a 1.4-kilometer march of over 300 supporters from UMNO, Bersatu, and PAS to protest outside the hardware shop, despite police warnings against public gatherings. The shop owner, a 59-year-old man who apologized for the unintentional mistake, faced public shaming and intimidation. Akmal’s rhetoric, including his call to “teach” the owner a lesson, escalated tensions and painted the incident as an attack on national pride. Similarly, his response to the school incident dragged educators and students into a political storm, overshadowing the spirit of Merdeka with accusations and divisiveness.
For many years to come, Merdeka will not be the same as before.
The enthusiasm, interest, and joy in anticipation of Merdeka have been subverted by none other than Umno youth chief Dr. Akmal Salleh—ironically, a Russian-trained medical doctor. A doctor, by nature, should embody empathy and compassion, yet Akmal has turned into a patriotic monster.
A small issue of hoisting the national flag upside down—whether a mistake or deliberate—was turned into a combustible national controversy, threatening race relations in the country.
I recall in 1967, as a secondary school student in Johore, the pride I felt when given the honour of carrying the national flag during Merdeka celebrations. Back then, Merdeka symbolised unity and hope.
Today, that spirit has been dampened, not because of a flag-hoisting mistake, but because of the hostile opposition stoked by political opportunism.
The recent confrontation between Umno Youth, led by Akmal, and Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) is a case in point. The bravado earlier shown by the DAP in challenging Akmal was nowhere to be seen. Its youth wing simply disappeared.
Merdeka is more than the act of raising a flag. It symbolises love for the country, respect for the constitution, and the ability to live together as one nation despite cultural and ethnic differences. By politicising the flag incident, Akmal has contributed to the erosion of Merdeka’s true meaning.
From now on, Malaysians may overthink the act of hoisting the national flag, fearful that Akmal and his vigilantes may be waiting to pounce on even the smallest mistake. Yet mistakes are part of life. Most are unintentional, and even deliberate ones do not diminish our love for the nation or the spirit of independence. A few slip-ups here and there will never derail Merdeka.
What Malaysians do not need are vigilantes lurking with cameras, eager to broadcast every minor error nationwide. Sadly, the government—despite being headed by a peace-maker in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim—seems powerless in curbing the excesses of Akmal and his gang. What is the point of being celebrated as a peacemaker abroad when the domestic situation grows combustible?
Akmal’s real folly was not in correcting a hardware shop owner on the proper way to hoist the flag, but in dangerously raising ethnic temperatures. Even a small incident in a sleepy town like Kepala Batas could have sparked riots.
How the government and security agencies intend to deal with Akmal and his troublemakers remains to be seen. One thing, however, is certain: Merdeka will never be the same again. Akmal’s aggressive brand of patriotism has tarnished its meaning and spirit, leaving Malaysians unnecessarily fearful—even of hoisting the national flag.

Malaysian Military Officers Paid RM5 Million Monthly To Leak State Intelligence – Civil Service Corruption Crisis – “Where is Akmal Saleh?”
18 August, 2025
The Magistrate’s Court today issued remand orders against 10 individuals, including five senior Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) officers, to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into a smuggling syndicate operating in the country’s south.
The MACC said the others remanded comprise two journalists from an online media agency, a company manager, an administrative assistant at the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and a foreign woman.
“Four male suspects have been remanded for seven days until Aug 20, two men and one woman for two days until Aug 18, while two men and one Indonesian woman are remanded for three days until Aug 15,” it said in a statement today.
The remand orders were issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin.
According to sources, the five senior military officers and five civilians, aged between 30 and 55, were arrested around the Klang Valley yesterday in ‘Op Sohor’, carried out by MACC’s Intelligence Division with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The military intelligence officers are suspected of colluding with the syndicate by leaking operational information to help them evade enforcement.
The smuggled goods allegedly brought into the country include drugs, cigarettes and other items from neighbouring countries, with an estimated value of about RM5 million a month.
The raids followed about 12 months of intelligence gathering, and the suspects are believed to have received between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in bribes for each smuggling trip conducted.
The network involving the officers is believed to be large and complex.
In the Wednesday operation, MACC also seized over RM63,000 in cash, several packages suspected to contain drugs, weighing and measuring equipment, liquor and imitation firearms found at the raided premises.
Meanwhile, MACC Intelligence Division Senior Director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin said the suspects are being investigated for corruption and money laundering offences.
RM5 Million Monthly Operation
Initial investigations suggest the military personnel leaked operational intelligence to smugglers, facilitating the entry of contraband, including drugs, cigarettes, and various goods from neighbouring countries into Malaysia.
The total value of smuggled goods is estimated to be approximately RM5 million per month.
The arrests followed intelligence gathering over a period of approximately one year.
Suspects allegedly received between RM30,000 and RM50,000 for each smuggling trip.

Malaysian Civil Servants Are More Corrupt Than Politicians: Exorbitant Waste Amounting to Over RM 122 Billion Yearly
17 August, 2025
Almost 3,000 Malaysian government employees had been caught taking bribes over the last decade, lawmakers heard on Friday, topping the list of receivers of under the table payments over the past decade and nearly three times more than in the private sector.
Bribery remains entrenched in Malaysian society despite strong public sentiments for its eradication. High-profile corruption scandals, including those involving several former prime ministers, has done little to dampen the public appetite for an end to what many say is a pay-to-play system that covers everything from passing vehicle inspections to winning a government contract.

PETALING JAYA: Police have taken a statement from Dr Akmal Saleh last night over the assembly which he organised in Kepala Batas, Penang last Thursday.
The Umno Youth chief completed giving his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) in Kuala Lumpur at 1.25am today, Bernama reported.
According to his lawyer Aizat Aman, the Merlimau assemblyman cooperated with the police and answered all of the approximately 80 questions posed by the investigating officer.
“He is facing an investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 506 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he told reporters when met in front of the IPD today.
Akmal later addressed the large group of supporters who had gathered outside the IPD, and also told the media that he would be giving his full cooperation to police in their investigation.
He arrived at the Dang Wangi IPD at 11pm yesterday to have his statement recorded.
Yesterday, police confirmed that they were investigating a viral Facebook video featuring Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh making statements that were considered to be “hate speech” that could disturb public peace.
In a statement, Penang police chief Azizee Ismail said an investigation under the Sedition Act and the Penal Code (for criminal intimidation) was launched after a report was lodged on Aug 12.
“To date, two police reports have been filed by members of the public in Penang, and both reports are currently being investigated,” he said.
He added that the case had been taken over by the special crime investigation unit of Bukit Aman as of yesterday evening.
