PMX Anwar turning Malaysia into an Islamic State?

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20, 2024: When the so-called Madani Unity Government, led by Malaysia’s10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim, tables the Mufti Bill 2004 in the current Parliament sitting for final reading, it will determine whether the country is turned into an Islamic State.

If the bill is passed, it will certainly spell the end of multiracial Malaysia and the rights of Malaysians.

And we will have our 222 Members of Parliament (MPs) to thank for turning Malaysia into an Islamic State - including the non-Muslim MPs.

The following is a comment circulating in social media:

*ANWAR, A MAN IN A HURRY TO ISLAMISE THE COUNTRY!*

*The Mufti Bill 2004 is the 1st prepared by world-renowned & very influential Islamist leader Anwar lbrahim* , which is why many of us are worried. We are in unchartered territory. We have never had a PM with more Islamist image than Anwar since Merdeka.

The Mufti Bill has more extensive provisions than *restating the mufti's power to issue a fatwa, which becomes law*

The Mufti has the authority to define who is a Muslim & the rights attendant to that. He can determine what creed of Islam is correct, what denomination is acceptable, & what is not

*Like it or not, Malaysia has stepped into an IRREVERSIBLE stage of Islamisation. Non-Muslims will continue to be oppressed and the situation will only get worse for non-Muslims.*

*There’s no point for Muslims to deny or disagree with this .. simply because the Muslims are NOT affected by this discrimination.*

*Way to go, Malaysia

*Hidup Anwar!*

*Hidup Madani!*

*Hidup Palestin!*

No News Is Bad News reproduces below what former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim is saying about the bill:

@zaidibrahim

Malaysia is an Islamic state Fahmi Fadzil is the Minister of Communication. He said the Mufti Bill 2004 would not make us an Islamic state. He was responding to the opposition of many groups to the Mufti Bill 2004 He said the provision stating that the fatwa issued by a Mufti has the force of law was not new. This provision existed since 1997, yet Malaysia has not become an Islamic state. The Sabahans can still celebrate Keamaatan and other local cultures. So he concluded by saying; do not worry about Malaysia becoming an Islamic state, despite the Bill Is he saying we are not an Islamic state? Then what are we? We are not a secular democracy like Indonesia or Singapore, where sins do not automatically translate to crimes. Here, we are sin-free, smoke-free, corrupt-free I think, for all intents and purposes, we are already an Islamic state. Our Malay leaders are developing policies that will make it irreversible. What we all collectively can do is to slow down the progress of the march Having a fatwa of the Mufti as the law alone did not generate much fear when Umno/ BN leaders governed Malaysia at the Federal level. There were no Umno / BN leaders like Anwar, who showed strong Islamist tendencies and spoke of Islamic systems with passion, such as the latest one, Madani The Mufti Bill 2004 is the first prepared by world-renowned and very influential Islamist leader Anwar Ibrahim, which is why many of us are worried. We are in unchartered territory. We have never had a PM with more Islamist image than Anwar since Merdeka The Mufti Bill has more extensive provisions than restating the mufti's power to issue a fatwa, which becomes law. The Mufti has the authority to define who is a Muslim and the rights attendant to that. He can determine what creed of Islam is correct, what denomination is acceptable, and what is not. Only the Shafie version of Islamic jurisprudence is acceptable. That's the reason I believe why Perlis Mufti objected to the Bill It's clear to me that the Mufti Bill 2004 is another manifestation of the country's embrace of a more orthodox Islami. Tolerant Islam will suffer from this Fahmi will say that Muslims have the right to be regulated in the way that suits them best. But that's where the problem begins. If the Islamic state is a place where democracy and freedom flourish and the rights of all people are respected, then that will be acceptable. But what if the Muftis define it and have legal immunity? Ninety-four per cent of Muslims in Bangladesh also believe that the system of government that suits them best is the kind proposed by Jemaatul Islamiah-an Islamic state that Hindus and other minorities do not enjoy the same rights. In other words, there is no place for diversity; there is no place for democracy and freedom of choice. Malaysia is sixty-five per cent Muslim. Suppose there is no democracy and no freedom for them, as Muftis regulate their lives. It will be a matter of time before the whole system of government will be undemocratic and unfree. It's not possible to have an Islamic system only for Muslims, as our lives interface and interconnect. We are all in one country Anyway, no Malay leader in Putrajaya will say Malaysia is not an Islamic state as we speak! Yet Fahmi says Do not worry So Sabah Sarawak and all Malaysians who value democracy and freedom, you are justified in opposing the Bill
