Selangor DAP gives Gobind the boot

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11, 2024: Former Selangor DAP chief Gobind Singh Deo was “unceremoniously” booted out of the state party elections yrsterday.

Gobind, 50, the current Digital Minister, is a son of the late Karpal Singh.

Losing a seat in the state leadership is telling of the lack of confidence of party members in Gobind.

Next, what is the right thing for Gobind to do morally?

Step down gracefully and with dignity intact as minister and make way for younger and more robust DAP leaders. Don't be shameless like the majority of politicians who cling on to positions until they finally crumble politically.

Klang MP V Ganabatirau has been appointed deputy chairman while Selangor speaker Ng Suee Lim and former three-term Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah were appointed vice-chairmen.

Gobind, who is the digital minister, was not among the 15 members who were elected to make up the Selangor DAP committee. He received 675 votes, to finish in 16th place.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin secured the top spot with 1,180 votes, followed by former Teratai assemblyman Tiew Way Keng and Ng (1,058 votes).

Yeo was appointed Selangor DAP secretary.

The delegates at today’s Selangor DAP convention in Shah Alam voted for 15 members to make up the state DAP committee, who then decided among themselves who should be appointed chairman and other key positions.

“Congratulations to the 15 committee members who have been selected,” said Ng, who is state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility.

“As mentioned by DAP secretary-general (Loke Siew Fook) earlier this morning, once the election is over, everyone will work together as a team to serve the people and the nation.”
