Spitting on food: M'sia ‘shy’ to clarify its stand?

 No News Is Bad News

An old video of Qazi Fazal Koyamma Tangal was reshared again by BJP leader Surendra Poonia alleging the religious leader is 'spitting on the food'. However, it was soon debunked by netizens

Spitting on food: M'sia ‘shy’ to clarify its stand?

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23, 2023: Religious extremists, especially those in India, have been filmed spitting on food to make it halal (watch the above two video clips).

Videos of so-called Muslims spitting on food have gone viral in the internet and social media.

Why then are the Malaysian Government, its health enforcement and religious authorities remained mum over the disgusting public health hazard?

Has such disease-spreading practice reached Malaysia?

Why is the Government, especially the religious authority Jakim, so fearful of clarifying the matter and declare whether the “spitting” practice is deviant teaching?

Already, Indians in India have called for a boycott of all food from Muslim countries.

View the above video clips and Malaysians hope to hear what the Government and authorities have to say about this disgusting public health hazard.

Spitting on food: Where do the authorities stand?

UPDATE:

No News Is Bad News: Really? Then declare whether spitting on food is deviant teaching.

Jakim to place officer at MCMC to curb deviant teachings

Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar says his ministry is in the midst of identifying a candidate for the post.

Bernama - 21 Jul 2023, 4:12pm

At present, Jakim has no religious officer at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

PUTRAJAYA: The Islamic development department (Jakim) will place a religious affairs officer at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to help it monitor postings promoting deviant teachings on social media.

Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar said his ministry is currently identifying a cadre officer to fill the post.

“At present, Jakim has no religious officer at MCMC. Hence, I have asked Jakim to place a cadre officer as a reference expert.

“When there is a posting related to deviant teachings which will certainly go viral, I hope the officer will take swift action,” he said.

He said the move was taken following several viral videos on social media recently, involving several individuals who claimed to be followers of the deviant teachings of Suhaini Muhammad or SiHulk.

Na’im said this at a press conference after receiving a courtesy visit from the Grand Mufti of India and the founder of Jamia Markaz, Kerala, India, Al-Allamah Sheikh Abu Bakar Ahmad Al-Malibari, and adviser to the president of Egypt, Sheikh Dr Usamah Sayyid Al-Azhari, at his office here today.

Na’im said that the 117th muzakarah committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), which convened from Aug 25 to 29, 2020, had agreed that SiHulk’s teachings were misguided and deviate from Islamic teachings based on the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

He also said that Jakim had been instructed to cooperate with the police and MCMC to combat the spread of deviant teachings, and Jakim would also channel information about SiHulk’s activities to the state religious departments for enforcement action.

Spitting on food: Where do the authorities stand?
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21, 2023: Videos of so-called Muslims spitting on food have gone viral for quite a while but there seems to be no reaction whatsoever from the authorities.

The Government - namely the federal health enforcement and Islamic authorities - must clarify and allay public fears on the sick “spitters”.

Such “Muslims” and their Muslim groups allegedly claimed that “Halal means spitting on food”.

Malaysia is “home” to tens of thousands of Muslim foreign workers and such a sickening issue that is clearly a public health hazard and concern must be put to rest.

Should the authorities fail to act, then it is failing in its fiduciary duty and those holding office in the authorities should be brought to book.

Can the public also sue the authorities for failing to act?

No News Is Bad News reproduces above five shocking and sickening viral videos on food handlers who wantonly contaminate food for the public to consume.

Are any of the videos shot in Malaysia?

That is for the authorities to investigate and act against the public health hazard culprits.

Even if none of the videos were shot in Malaysia, the authorities need to allay the fears of Malaysians. Meanwhile, the authorities’ silence on the matter is simply deafening!

Muslim Groups Didn't Say 'Halal Means Spitting on Food', Claim is Misleading

The viral post consists of an excerpt from a plea filed in Kerala HC by a person from the Hindu community.

A viral message on social media claims that in Tamil Nadu, Muslims have said that the meaning of 'halal isn't complete unless the cook spits on the food'. The text goes on to warn people against eating such food, and advocates against 'ordering food from any Muslim-owned hotel'.

The text, along with a tweet link, is being shared on social media platforms advising people against eating at 'halal hotels', and adds that Muslims follow this practice for religious reasons. The attached tweet also carries a video which is being used "as evidence" to push the narrative.

However, we found that no such admission had been made by any Muslim body or individual. In fact, the excerpt was from a petition filed in the Kerala High Court by a person named SJR Kumar, who had made this claim, attributing it to the Muslim community.

Islamic Cleric Says Spitting In Food Is Tradition; If You Refuse This Contaminated Food, You’re An ‘Islamophobe’ #FoodJihad

"If you refuse to eat food that has been spat on, you are a religious bigot."

byFirangiAffairs

On November 15, a video of a kufi-wearing cook in a restaurant spitting into the dough while cooking tandoori roti, a thin handmade bread common on the Indian subcontinent, went viral across social media platforms in India. Soon it was discovered that the cook was a Muslim, working in a restaurant named “Muslim Hotel” in Loni, Ghaziabad, in India’s National Capital Region. The Hindu Raksha Dal lodged a complaint against the disgusting act with the Loni Police Station, and the cook was detained for questioning.

Gaziabad Police later released a video of the Circle Officer of Loni, stating: “A video has gone viral on social media in which a man was seen spitting on roti before putting it in tandoor. During the investigation, it was found that the video was of Muslim Hotel located near the Bathlana flyover in the Loni Police Station area. The man in question has been arrested for further questioning. Police will take appropriate action as per the law so that no one’s sentiments are hurt in the future.”

This is not a one-of-a-kind occurrence. Just a couple of months ago, another video showing another cook spitting in food in a Dhaba went viral, and again, after Hindu associations lodged a complaint with the police, a Muslim named Tamizuddin, who was working as a cook at Chicken Point in Panchvati Ahimsa Vatika market in Gaziabad, was arrested.

In February 2021, another Muslim named Naushad was arrested in Meerut for spitting into tandoori rotis at a wedding. After interrogation, it was revealed that he has been making and spitting in tandoori rotis for ten to fifteen years. In March 2021, two Muslims, Mohammad Ibrahim and Anwar, who were working in a West Delhi eatery, were arrested by Delhi Police after a customer caught them spitting on rotis. Again in March 2021, a Muslim named Mohammad Mohsin, who was hired to make rotis at a Hindu engagement ceremony, was arrested after being caught red-handed while spitting on the dough. Mohammad Khalik’s video of spitting on rotis at Madeeena hotel in North East Delhi went viral the same month; taking cognizance of the matter, the Delhi Police arrested the cook. This activity was perpetrated by more people than just cooks making rotis: fruit vendor Mohammad Farman was caught spitting on sliced watermelons, and was detained by Muzaffarnagar Police. Such cases were reported by the dozens in this region; there have been do many of them that they do not shock Indians anymore.

However, what is outrageous is the impenitence with which Leftists, liberals, and Muslims in the entertainment industry and the media rush to defend those who are spitting on food. When Naushad was caught spitting into dough and was arrested, renowned Islamic apologists defended him, accusing right-wing organizations in India of targeting these people solely because they were Muslims, and claiming that all they were doing was “passionately cooking.” They then lament at how Muslims are supposedly being jailed in India under Modi for doing nothing.

This is what we have come to. Muslims should be allowed to spit in food being cooked for the consumption of non-Muslims, because they are a religious minority in the country. If you raise objections to this, and if you refuse to eat food that has been spat on, you are a religious bigot. How dare you not eat a roti a Muslim cook has so passionately spat upon?

Recently, in a televised debate, when presented with clips of kufi-wearing people licking the plates and spoons of what appeared to be a restaurant, an Islamic cleric claimed that these people were not contaminating the utensils with spit. He asserted that what they were doing was a part of their faith. He also asserted that the fruit seller Mohammad Farman was not spitting on the fruit, but cleaning it. After massive outrage, the news channel had to take down the debate, but a portion of it is still available on social media.

A few weeks ago, another video surfaced, showing Muslim clerics cooking food in large quantities for a party. One of them took a plate full of food, blew on it, and mixed the content of the plate with food that was in a larger container. It has been a subject of debate in India as to whether he was spitting on the plate. Islamic apologists have defended his act by claiming that he was reading a prayer over the food and blowing upon it as per Islamic tradition. Even if that were true, what is the likelihood that tiny droplets of spit went into the food with the holy “blow”? If this “blown on” food is served only to Muslims, then we would not have much to say. But if this “blowing” is practiced while preparing food for those who do not follow Islam, then do the consumers have a right to object, or would that be “Islamophobia”?

Labuan police issue warning after ‘spitting in food’ viral video

SABAH & SARAWAK

5:23 PM MYT

KOTA KINABALU: Police have received at least three reports over a 12-second viral video that purportedly captured a man spitting into a food mix he was preparing at a Ramadan bazaar in Labuan.

The clip has been making the rounds in social media since Wednesday (April 19), much to the disgust of netizens.

The authorities have however also warned the people against spreading videos or making statements that could disrupt public peace following comments made by the online community after the clip was shared.

Labuan OCPD Supt Ahmad Jawila said after checking, the incident allegedly captured in the video was said to have taken place on the same day the clip went viral at the Ramadan bazaar in Labuan Walk.

"Through the clip, it was said the man was a hawker selling murtabak with 'spit flavour' at the Labuan Walk bazaar and drew criticisms from various parties who were unhappy about the incident," he said, in a statement on Friday (April 21).

"The police would like to advise the public not to indiscriminately spread videos or make any comment that could raise concern in the community," he added.

The case, he said, was being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 233 criminalises online content that is obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person.

Supt Ahmad said those found guilty faced a maximum RM50,000 fine or jail up to a year, or both.

A motorist parked near the bazaar is believed to have taken the video before sharing it with friends and family, who forwarded it to a wider audience.

An attached voice message is heard saying vaguely where the incident was recorded, among other details.

Netizens have called the trader's act "gross, appalling, disgusting and dirty."

Towards this end, Supt Ahmad urged anyone with information pertaining to the incident at the bazaar to come forward and help in the police’s investigations.

He said the public may contact investigating officer Asst Supt Mohd Kennedy Mat Jusoh at 087-412 222.

Five-star Genting hotel fires chef who tweeted he spat in Chinese customers’ food

26 February 2020·2-min read

A chef at a Genting, Pahang hotel was fired this week after a tweet was leaked from his private account in which he admitted to spitting into Chinese customers’ food, the five-star Grand Ion Delemen Hotel has confirmed.

The original social media post was written on 20 Feb., with a screencap reposted to the popular online clearinghouse for car reviews, complaints, and petty grievances, Low Yat.

“My job requires a lot out of me. But the best part about it is that I get to spit in the food of Chinese people,” the chef wrote under the handle @ABCDEpul.

Another tweet from the same user read: “Don’t let Chinese people lead us. They’re all stupid. They all eat pork. Do you want to eat pork?” Yet another referred to the Chinese as “disgusting.”

The original post sparked an internet witch-hunt by the members of the-forum-that-will-never-die, and eventually netizens produced an image of a man they claimed was the culprit, along with photos of dishes that he had prepared (one with the caption “Eat it, you infidel.”), the Genting hotel he works at, other inflammatory tweets, and a purported order sheet that specified the customer ordering was Chinese.

How unnerved are you right now by the thought that you would probably have eaten that food and been none the wiser? We’re on level, like, 90/100.

Yesterday afternoon, Grand Ion Deleman Hotel Genting Highlands issued a statement on the matter, writing that they were upset to learn this week that one of their employees was posting racial hatred online.

“On Tuesday, 25th February, we are deeply saddened to learn that one of our employees had posted racial hatred in his social media,” they said in a statement, adding that they took the matter seriously and were reviewing their own standard operating procedures in the wake of the shocking news.

“The following procedures have been reinforced to avoid such incident: immediate release of employee from employment, recorded misconduct and profile for future employer’s reference-checking, CCTV surveillance and peer support for whistleblowers and strict implementation on Food Safety Standards and Regulations in Malaysia,” the statement.

A pizza delivery boy faces 18 years in jail after he was caught on camera apparently spitting on a customer's food in Turkey.

CCTV footage shows the 18-year-old, named as Burak S, opening up a pizza box outside a customer's home and leaning over it as he filmed himself on his phone.

The boy then walked up to customer Huseyin Alyuz's fifth-floor flat, in the city of Eskisehir in north-west Turkey, to deliver the meal.

Mr Alyuz's nephew, Cagatay Ehe, saw the CCTV footage and told his uncle who complained to the police and the pizza company.

Burak S. said he was only checking the pizza for damage but has been sacked and is now on trial.

He is charged with 'endangering the lives of persons by putting poison or spoiling the food with other means' which carries a sentence of two to 15 years in prison.

He also faces a consumer court charge of 'damaging goods and endangering customer's health' which carries a sentence of between four months and three years behind bars.

Burak S. told the court that he did not spit on the pizza and had only opened the box to ensure it was not damaged as he had been in an accident en route.

He said: 'I found out that the person who ordered the pizza had cursed my colleague Aylin. I knew he was a problem customer.

'I opened the box of the pizza to check for any problems, to check whether the pizza was still intact.

'I took a picture of the pizza with my mobile phone and sent it to my friend Aylin. I absolutely did not spit when I opened the box.'

Mr Alyuz told the court: 'I called the pizza shop and ordered a pizza. It was a two-minute conversation and I did not curse anybody.

'The suspect delivered the pizza to me. I opened the box and took two slices of pizza. Cagatay Efe who lives in the same building, send me a text message saying 'do not eat the pizza'.

'I called Cagatay, he told me the delivery boy had spat on the pizza. When I checked the security camera footage I realised the suspect had spat on my pizza.'

The criminal court has adjourned the case until next February while forensic experts assess the risk of disease from the pizza. The consumer court case is still pending.
