Corruption: Slowly but surely catch the fish!

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23, 2024: Slowly but surely catch the fish!

Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated his warning to the corrupt and those thinking of corruption.

“I want the people to continue to support the government’s efforts to bring about changes in governance and the war against corruption.

“I need the full support of the people to combat these issues, especially since efforts taken are disliked by certain quarters (read the ikan jerung or sharks),” he added.

And rightly so that PMX is appealing to Malaysians for support.

After all, which previous federal government (elected once every five years) has gone after the corrupt like what is happening in Malaysia today.

Previously, only the ikan billis (anchovies) are roped in by the then Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), now the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The ikan jerung are left untouched.

It appears Anwar and his so-called Madani Unity Government (UG) really mean business and the ikan jerung are jolted, experiencing shivers down their spine … sleepless nights.

The desperado ikan jerung are now using their “ill-gotten money power” to try and topple Anwar and his UG to save their skin.

They are bent on doing this at all cost and also use racial and religious to destroy national unity and harmony - caring a damn for the interest of rakyat dan negara (people and country).

And that is why Anwar is reiterating his appeal for the support of the rakyat in the fight against the corrupt, especially the ikan jerung.

The fight against corruption is also one of the vital measures to help heal the country’s economy which is saddled with a RM1.5 trillion national debt - also no thanks to previous federal governments.

For the MACC, it is a tedious task, gathering evidence against the ikan jerung who are filthy rich, using money to manipulate the rakyat politically and resorting to exploit the weaknesses in the law to frustrate investigators and the judiciary process.

For Anwar, who has been in office for only slightly over a year, he has a gargantuan task of undoing the wrongs of previous federal governments in the past six decades.

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the people to continue to support the government’s efforts to bring about changes in governance and its war against corruption.

Anwar said he needs the full support of the people to combat these issues, especially since he is aware that the efforts taken are disliked by certain quarters.

He said some quarters, when talking about the theft of tens of billions of ringgit, believe that those with high positions such as a prime minister, finance minister and minister must commensurate with great wealth.

“(They say) why become a prime minister if you don't become wealthy?”

“This tasteless, rubbish view must be opposed and the responsible ones must not only consist of politicians (but those from) the entire system. All of us must shoulder that responsibility, and that includes me.

“I hope there will be (support)... if there is no political support for this, at least in the issue of governance and the demand for change, I seek the full support of the people,” he said when speaking at the launch of the Global Thinkers Discourse 2024 at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur today.

Anwar said due to corruption and poor governance, many important needs had to be sacrificed, including the allocation of larger funds for education and addressing the issue of 8,000 school toilets that need repair, with billions being 'misappropriated' by certain figures.

As a result of this, the prime minister said the current government, which administers based on the Madani concept, prioritises human-centred development and does not just focus on 'giant structures'.

“That's why I say our priority now in the Mqdani government is not (about) landmarks, not (about) big buildings, that's what the private sector does.

“Government funds are for cleaning, basic facilities, the best schools and also stalls and eateries used by the majority of the people that (must be) clean and beautiful.

“That is our approach, so I am not willing to compromise when implementing such policies for the well-being of the people,” he said. - Bernama, January 22, 2024/posted by FMT
