No big deal: J-Kom’s Agus stripped of his Datukship
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19, 2024: Even the revocation of titles is selective in Malaysia, like in many matters that include criminal prosecuttion.
The Kelantan state secretary Nazran Muhammad today confirmed that Agus Yusoff was stripped of his Datukship effective Dec 2, 2023. So what’s the big deal?
Agus has yet to be found guilty but his Datukship has been stripped.
Malaysians have this to say about Datuk: “You throw a stone and you are likely to hit a Datuk!” That’s how much respect they have for Datuks.
There are many politicians who deserve to be stripped of their honorary titles but they remain “untouchable”. No.
The disgraced jailbird former premier Najib Abdul Razak is one glaring case. Datuk Jailbird!
Another is also a former premier, the racist Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been rocking Malaysia with toxic racial and religious bigotry unabated, thereby threatening national unity and harmony.
What about PAS president Hadi Awang? What has he and the Taliban-like PAS contributed to the rakyat dan negara (people and country)?
The list of unsavoury politicians is so long that they do not deserve any space for mention anymore.
As long as you are linked to the corridors of power or are filthy rich and powerful, the titles bestowed on them are untouchable.

Former J-Kom DG’s ‘Datuk’ title revoked
Kelantan state secretary Nazran Muhammad confirms that the title was stripped from Agus Yusoff effective Dec 2, 2023.
FMT Reporters - 19 Jan 2024, 6:25pm
Agus Yusoff resigned as J-Kom director-general in November last year following a controversy over a video clip that went viral.
PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, has revoked the “Datuk” title awarded to former community communications department (J-Kom) director-general Agus Yusoff.
According to Malaysiakini, Kelantan state secretary Nazran Muhammad confirmed that the title was revoked effective Dec 2, 2023.
“(The matter) is as gazetted,” Nazran was quoted as saying.
Screenshots of the gazette had gone viral the past few days. While it was issued on Dec 28, the gazette stated that the award with the “Datuk” title was withdrawn effective Dec 2.
Agus resigned as J-Kom director-general in November last year, soon after a viral video clip surfaced allegedly showing a lewd conversation between him and J-Kom officer Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani.
Agus, a former academic, claimed at a press conference the video clip was fake and doctored by irresponsible parties.
Wahab later filed a police report against Agus claiming that the former J-Kom chief sexually harassed him at a hotel in Bintulu, Sarawak, on Oct 21, 2023.
On Tuesday, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said the probe into Wahab’s claim has been completed, with the investigation paper submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Dec 18.
