Malaysia heading towards lawlessness led by Umno?

Didn’t these Umno leaders know that since 1957, we are not a theocracy but a civil law country?

Malaysia heading towards lawlessness led by Umno?

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13, 2024: The constitutional and democratic rights of Malaysians are being trampled upon by racial and religious bigots.

This follows the Federal Court’s ruling that struck down Kelantan’s Syariah Criminal Enactments on Friday (Feb 9).

And the religious madness is led by no other and lesser than Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi, the Umno president.

Zahid said Umno wants a constitutional amendment to empower shariah laws.

Empower for what? To subject non-Muslims to Shariah?

It is trhe right of Muslims to practice and live the Islamic way.

But, certainly not non-Muslims. Period.

So, to question the apex (Federal Court) decision is akin to lawlessness. And to blame whatever weaknesses in the Syariah Law to the Federal Constitution is moronic.

As Malaysia struggles to heal its RM1.5 trillion national debt economy, investors will certainly keep a close watch on whether the country is heading towards lawlessness, as demanded by racial and religious bigots.

No doubt investors will be spooked by this religious madness and their investment decisions.

No News Is Bad News reproduces below what a former law minister and lawyer Zaid Ibrahim has penned on the madness:

RELIGIOUS MADNESS IS GATHERING STEAM AFTER FEDERAL COURT, THE HIGHEST COURT IN THE LAND, STRUCK DOWN KELANTAN’s SYARIAH CRIMINAL ENACTMENTS TWO DAYS AGO.

HYSTERIA HAS STARTED.

Now, the hysteria has started.

For Pas/ Bersatu to express shock and dismay at the decision of the federal court is expected, for they are in opposition, but for Umno to want a constitutional amendment to empower Shariah laws is madness.

What’s the Deputy President saying when he wants JAKIM to examine the Constitutional amendment?

Before Nik Elin’s case, didn’t these Umno leaders know that since 1957, we are not a theocracy but a civil law country?

That means:

1. Not every religious law should be in the books;

2. Civil laws are the primary source of laws in governing this country.

3. The Shariah system is for personal laws, but the general body of laws is not religious laws.

They didn’t know?

Then they must be sleepwalking

The reactions of our Malay politicians to Nik Elin's case show how little they think about the country's future.

They seem unable and unwilling to explain to the people that the choice is either we are a democracy governed by one set of general laws (civil laws ) like most countries are, or we are an Afghanistan-Iranian-type theocracy.

If they want to keep Malaysia as it is, like other countries in the world, then they should defend the court's decision.

But their reactions are emotional and not grounded in reality

For the Muslims, I say this:

“ Do not temper the Constitution.
If you divide this country into two
legal systems, you will be disadvantaged
        for generations. But the ramifications
are more severe for the country as a whole.”

Your leaders will tell you you need more religious laws.

But tell them the Shariah laws we have now are not adequately implemented.

1. Why take many years to get a divorce?

2. Why alimony and maintenance payments could not be speedily enforced?

3. Why the backlog of cases in most Shariah courts?

4. Why is there no uniformity of laws between the states? Answer, please

If your Muslim leaders care about your interests, they should make the present system more workable and efficient.

They can, for example, be more transparent about  how the respective Majlis Agama Islam collects and disburses their zakat funds.

But your leaders have NO time for YOU.

It takes hard work to give you a good education and economic power. It’s hard work to create funds to help your business

So, they take the easy way. They tell you you need more religious laws. They want the country to be divided

When the system breaks down, You will lose more than the non-Muslims.

Your economic rights, freedom, education and culture will suffer because you are not free anymore.

Criminal laws will engulf you because they don’t like your morals.

Your life will be different, and Malaysia will be unrecognisable .

FOR NON-MUSLIMS

Non-Muslims are not immediately affected.

They have their schools; they go to private universities. They can go to their non-halal outlets.

When they steal their limbs will not be amputated. But not for long.

Many, though, may leave the country.

They won’t be staying here for long in a non-functioning country.

You can say they can do what they want, but Malaysia is today developed because of their industry and hard work

You are already way behind the non-Muslims today, and instead of trying to improve and catch up, you are busy trying to dismantle the legal system, which has a vast teaching effect.

Tell your leaders there are more urgent things to do for the Muslim community.
