Chinese dumplings given the ‘mooncake status’

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20, 2024: Mooncakes have been dressed up or given extensive packaging during the Mooncake Festival for decades in Malaysia.

Now, Singaporeans have started dressing up the bak chang (glutinous rice meat dumplings) to market the traditional Chinese dumplings for the Dumpling Festival.

Of course it means the dumplings will be much more costlier as the packaging looks expensive, more expensive the than the dumplings. The taste of the dumplings is another matter.

Will ethnic Chinese Malaysians in Malaysia follow suit with the trend?
