KUALA LUMPUR, May 27, 2024: Malaysia’s education ministry today announced that 11,713 SPM candidates scored straight A’s in last year’s examination.
Wow! No where else in the world have so many excellent academic “brains”.
But, why is it that Malaysia’s education system and academic achievements are rated lowly in the international level?

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 11,713 candidates who sat for the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination obtained excellent results with grades of A+, A and A- in all subjects, says education director-general Azman Adnan.
Announcing the results here today, he said the 2023 SPM candidates had better achievements than those in the previous year, recording a national average grade of 4.60 compared with 4.74.
A smaller national average grade value indicates better candidate achievement.
“226,358 of the 373,255 candidates who sat for the 2023 SPM obtained at least a pass in all the subjects they took, compared with 57.1% or 213,624 candidates in 2022.
“93.5% or 349,297 candidates were eligible for the 2023 SPM certificate compared with 342,742 candidates who sat for the examination in 2022,” he said.
