KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10, 2026: Podcasters Brian Tan and Shamsul Saad have returned home safely after being freed by police after a two-day detention in the Klang police lock-up.
They were arrested by police who alleged that they committed 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty) offences in Brian’s [podcast conversation.
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has called on the Home Minister and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to explain the arrest and detention of two podcasters, questioning why they were taken into custody while other individuals accused of making racially and religiously charged remarks remain free.A police report was lodged by a Batu PKR committee member on Aug 4 against Chinese convert preacher Ridhuan Tee but the police have remained silent on the case.

From Podcast To Police Station: What Happened To Brian And Sam?
Brian Tan and Shamsul Saad were arrested after podcast excerpts circulated on TikTok allegedly triggered complaints over racial and religious sensitivities.

Let’s Get It Podcast producer Brian Tan and The Gut Shot Podcast producer Shamsul Saad, better known as Sam, were arrested last Thursday for allegedly raising racial and religious sensitivities.
Brian and Shamsul allegedly made the remarks in the Let’s Get It podcast episode 141, where Shamsul made an appearance discussing among other things, the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and tahfiz schools.
The investigation began after snippets from the podcast episode were circulated on two TikTok accounts. Police subsequently received complaints claiming the content could potentially inflame racial and religious tensions.
Investigators are probing the case under several laws, including Sections 298, 504 and 505(c) of the Penal Code, Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, and relevant provisions of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
How It Started
Brian was arrested at his home at around 5pm on Thursday by police officers before being taken to the North Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD Klang Utara) for questioning.
Police later brought him back to his residence, where officers seized his laptop, mobile phone and other electronic devices for forensic analysis.
Shamsul subsequently went to IPD Klang Utara accompanied by his lawyer, Siti Kasim, and cooperated with investigators.
Both men were held overnight before being brought before the magistrate the next day.
Police Wanted Four Days
During Friday’s proceedings, police applied for a four-day remand, saying investigators needed additional time to record statements, examine the seized electronic devices, verify information from witnesses and gain access to encrypted materials linked to the case.
The defence opposed the application.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate granted police two days of remand, half the period requested.
The Reaction
Lawyer Siti Kasim, who appeared in a video with the two podcasters before they were remanded, questioned the basis for their arrests and asked who had ordered the action.
“In my view, this is a form of intimidation aimed at silencing people from speaking about issues that the authorities do not want the public to know,” Siti Kasim.
Siti said Shamsul had merely shared his and his family’s personal experiences during the podcast, including an incident involving his daughter being pressured to cover her hair.
The outspoken lawyer added that like-minded individuals would not back down in the face of what she described as such intimidation.
Meanwhile, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has also questioned the decision to arrest the two podcasters, pointing to what he described as inconsistent enforcement against individuals accused of making racially and religiously sensitive remarks.
The DAP lawmaker cited preacher and retired academic Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, whom he claimed had repeatedly posted remarks on Facebook touching on racial and religious issues in Malaysia’s multiracial society without being arrested, despite several police reports allegedly being lodged against him.
Rayer questioned why police had yet to take action against Ridhuan Tee and why he was allowed to continue making such posts.
“How many police reports are needed before Ridhuan Tee is arrested?” Rayer was quoted as saying by The Sun.

Jelutong MP questions why podcasters were detained while preacher’s repeated 3R remarks go unpunished
PETALING JAYA: Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has called on the Home Minister and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to explain the arrest and detention of two podcasters, questioning why they were taken into custody while other individuals accused of making racially and religiously charged remarks remain free.
In a statement issued today, Rayer asked what was “so controversial” about the podcast episode that warranted police action against Brian Tan, producer of the Let’s Get It Podcast, and Shamsul Saad, producer of The Gut Shot Podcast. Both men were arrested last Thursday and remanded for two days by the Klang Magistrate’s Court following complaints that an episode of their podcast touched on racial and religious sensitivities. The investigation reportedly began after excerpts of the episode circulated on TikTok.
“Podcasting is not a crime,” Rayer said. “Political discourse must not be governed by fear of reprisals. This does not reflect the spirit of reformasi.” He argued that a political discussion — even one that is controversial, uncomfortable or expressed in strongly worded terms — should not automatically become a criminal matter warranting arrest and detention.
Rayer contrasted the swift action against the podcasters with the police’s handling of Islamic preacher and academic Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, who he claimed has repeatedly made Facebook postings touching on racial and religious sensitivities in Malaysia’s multiracial society without facing arrest.
A police report was recently lodged against Ridhuan by Rozan Azen Mat Rasip, a PKR Batu division committee member, over a series of Facebook posts published between May and August that allegedly touched on race, religion and royalty (3R) issues. The report, filed at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters, cited possible offences under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
Rayer noted that Ridhuan had, following Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, used the Malay-language term “barua” (lackey or stooge) to describe Malay PH supporters and had referred to non-Malay supporters of the coalition using the term “harbi,” an Islamic jurisprudential term historically applied to non-Muslims considered hostile to Islam. The post is reported to have drawn tens of thousands of likes.
“Why haven’t the police arrested Ridhuan Tee yet? Why is he still at large? Why is he given the freedom to continue spewing hate on his Facebook? Why are the police slow to act? How many police reports would it take before Ridhuan Tee is arrested?” Rayer asked.
Rayer also raised the status of a separate police report he lodged against Jempol MP Shamsulkahar Mohd Deli of Umno, over remarks the Barisan Nasional lawmaker made during campaigning for the Negeri Sembilan state election. Rayer had alleged that Shamsulkahar wrongly linked DAP to a circulated edited image of a pig in royal attire, believed to have been targeted at Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and separately accused DAP of targeting the Sultan.
Negeri Sembilan police confirmed an investigation paper was opened against Shamsulkahar under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 4(A)(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Shamsulkahar has denied trying to defame DAP or create a negative perception of the party, saying he was merely raising an issue that had already been publicly reported, including the Sultan’s own remarks on the matter.
Rayer asked why Shamsulkahar had not been arrested “despite his malicious, reckless, dangerous, and racially divisive speech,” while the two podcasters were detained.
Rayer said the Federal Constitution guarantees that everyone is equal before the law, and that no one is above it. “This selective police action must stop immediately,” he said, calling on the Home Minister and the IGP to clarify the discrepancy in how the cases have been handled. - TheSun

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4, 2026: Finally someone found the courage to lodge a police report against Chinese convert preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah for breaching the 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty) on digital social media.
The police report was lodged by Batu PKR committee member Rozan Azen Mat Rasip against the racial and religious bigoted Muslim preacher who has been freely threatening national unity and harmony with sensitive and provocative bigotry against non-Muslim Malaysians.
Will the Madani Unity Government (UG) and police finally really take serious action or treat it as just another infamous NFA (No Further Action) case?

PKR man lodges report against Ridhuan Tee over alleged 3R posts
Batu committee member Rozan Azen Mat Rasip has urged police to investigate the social media posts under the Communications and Multimedia Act and Penal Code.
Preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah was accused of publishing ‘extremely racist’ remarks on social media.
PETALING JAYA: A PKR member has lodged a police report against controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, urging authorities to investigate a series of Facebook posts allegedly containing racist and provocative remarks.
Rozan Azen Mat Rasip said some of Ridhuan’s postings were not only “excessively racist” but touched on 3R-related issues of race, religion and royalty.
“The report was lodged because he has repeatedly attempted to incite division among social media users by posting content that provokes racial and religious tensions,” he told FMT.
He also said several postings from May to August misled the public on current issues, including religious rulings and perspectives that were clearly incorrect.
Batu committee member Rozan Azen Mat Rasip lodged a police report against controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.
“I have listed the dates and examples of his Facebook posts that I believed touched on the 3R issues.”
The report was lodged at the Ampang police headquarters under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
Act 588 deals with the improper use of network facilities, while Section 505(b) criminalises statements made with intent to cause public fear or alarm.
Rozan said he would also lodge police reports against several other social media users who allegedly posted offensive content, including insulting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s late father, belittling a state mufti and remarks involving the monarchy.
