Desperate PAS, PN look to ‘King of frogs’ (Dr M) to consolidate ‘Green Wave’ in Kemaman?

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8, 2023: If PAS opts to field the 98-year-old racist Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Dr M) in the coming Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu, it shows PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) desperation to remain relevant6 with Malaysians.

Dr M has proven to be a self-serving politician, after governing Malaysia for a total of 26 years, now resorting to racial and religious bigotry (even claiming that Malaysia is not a multi-racial country) to serve his political agenda - to drum up Malay support.

PAS does not have any proven record in socio-economic governance and it is desperately trying to propagate that its is capable of governing its states successfully.

And that is the only reason why it is willing to make to Dr M to contest in the by-election - but Dr M’s record shows his governance contributed immensely to Malaysia’s current RM1.5 trillion national debt.

In state and parliamentary elections, PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN)-Bersatu, led by the racist Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin, made a clean sweep and is now a solely non-Opposition state.

Should PN loses in the by-election, it would be a strong indicator that PAS and PN are losing their so-called “Green Wave” electoral phenomena.

And, they think Malaysia “King of Frogs” (Dr M) can ensure they retains Kemaman.

KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!) -  At age 98, it looks like former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad is still angling to become prime minister again - for the third time!

He has begun pestering PAS to let him contest at the Kemaman federal seat, a long-time PAS bastion and a sure-win for whoever contests there with the blessings of the PAS leadership.

“Talks have started with PAS leaders on his candidacy,” Free Malaysia Today news portal reported a source close to Mahathir as saying.

“Mahathir wields huge influence among the Malay electorate and grassroots leaders. If he wins, he will be the oldest MP to be elected."

"(But) the most important thing is that they want to put Dr M in Parliament to represent the interests of the four state governments. There is no point talking outside the House.”

Mahathir was recently appointed as economics and investments adviser to the four PAS-led state governments, namely Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis. 

NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH, ESPECIALLY FROM FRUGAL DR M!

While the wily Mahathir, who is also known for his penny-pinching ways, appeared happy to accept the appointment, his loyalists in Malay-rights movement Perkasa have since fired a shot at PAS - asking. why it did not appoint Bersatu chief Muhyiddin Yassin instead 

"I think Mahathir and his supporters such as Perkasa are telling PAS there's no such thing as a free lunch," a commentator told Politics Now!

"So Kemaman is the payout. It's political power that Dr M craves and not money. Also, who is to say what a return to Parliament can do for his career. For now, PAS and Bersatu are seen as racists and so is Mahathir. The difference is, he has the breadth and depth of experience they lack, especially PAS whom foreign investors fear the most, while Muhyiddin is not able to attract respect." 

STAND-BY PM-CANDIDATE? 

Indeed, foreign investors and foreign governments do know Mahathir. They may hate his outspoken ways but his leadership is generally accepted. 

"Dr M can be a stand-by PM candidate for PAS if an opportunity arises and they are at odds with Muhyiddin and Bersatu, while their own leaders such as (Kedah MB) Sanusi and (Terengganu MB) Samsuri Mokhtar are deemed still not ready for the very topmost post." 

In an almost immediate response, several top PAS leaders have rushed out to deny the speculation.  

According to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Mahathir himself had indicated he only wanted to contribute and had no intention to run in elections.

“Mahathir doesn’t want to contest in elections anymore. He said this himself," said Tuan Ibrahim.

“He only said that he wanted to contribute whatever he can while he is still around.” 

PAS IN THE DARK

Meanwhile, PAS vice president and Terengganu MB Samsuri Mokhtar also claims to be in the dark over Mahathir's 'comeback'.

"There has been no discussion until today and we have not actually had a 'sit down' among the top leadership about preparations for the election, especially the selection of candidates," Samsuri was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia.

"There is also no date fixed yet to discuss (candidates list), maybe next week I will go to Kuala Lumpur." 

The Kemaman seat was recently declared vacant after the court annulled PAS' victory during the 15th general election last year, on the grounds of election fraud and bribery.

PETALING JAYA: PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar says the party has not discussed nominating former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its candidate in the Kemaman parliamentary by-election.

He said that after the party decided not to appeal the Kuala Terengganu election court’s decision to nullify Che Alias Hamid’s victory in the 15th general election (GE15), the party’s leaders had not met again to discuss the matter.

“I have not heard about the rumours (about fielding Mahathir as PAS’s candidate in the Kemaman by-election),” Samsuri said at a press conference.

“There have been no discussions about this.

“There is a possibility (of retaining Che Alias as the candidate). Anything can happen before the nomination day.”

The Terengganu menteri besar added that the party has not decided on when to meet to discuss its preparation for the by-election.

PAS’s Che Alias won the seat with a 27,179-vote majority in a four-cornered fight in GE15.

However, the Kuala Terengganu election court annulled the win last month after finding that the payment of i-Belia and i-Siswa aid to voters during the campaign period constituted bribery.

PAS said it would not file an appeal against the decision, paving the way for another parliamentary by-election in the state after the Kuala Terengganu by-election was held on Aug 12.

A source close to Mahathir told FMT that PAS was likely to field the former prime minister as its candidate in the Kemaman by-election.

Mahathir was recently appointed an unofficial adviser to the four PAS-led state governments, and the source told FMT that having him in the Dewan Rakyat would allow the veteran politician to “better raise the states’ issues”.

It quotes its source that the 98-year-old Dr M wielded “huge influence among the Malay electorate and grassroots leaders”.

What a load of rubbish!

Dr M was soundly rejected by the Malays in Langkawi in the November 15^th General Election, even losing his deposit. Not only that, all his Pejuang candidatesd also lost their de[posits. That’s what you call “huge influence”?

However, let Dr M contest and give Malaysians a second go to “bury him politically”.

Dr M has proven to be a selfish politicians caring only for his personal interests not the rakyat dan negara (people and country).

 

The treacherous Dr M alone has contributed the bulk of Malaysia’s current RM1.5 trillion national debt in his 26 years of governance.

Now, he claims he wants to save the Malays? Save Malays from what? The federal government is more than 90% controlled by the Malays with the Sultans and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) overlooking the state.

To serve his political agenda to win Malay votes, he has even renaged on his past statements that Malaysia is not a multi-racial country.

Dr M is such a forked-tongue chameleon of a selfish politician.

PETALING JAYA: The opposition made Dr Mahathir Mohamad an unofficial adviser to a loose grouping of four Perikatan Nasional-led states to leverage on the former prime minister’s influence, a PAS leader said.

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said they decided not to make PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin the adviser as “he is already part of us”, Malaysiakini reported.

The PAS deputy president also said there were “obvious and tacit” reasons for roping in the former Langkawi MP.

“We want as many as we can get to be with us. Each figure has his own supporters and followers.

“If we can get influential figures like this to join us, they can build a wave, either big or small,” he was quoted as saying.

Tuan Ibrahim also denied that PAS was attempting to sideline Muhyiddin or prop Mahathir up.

He said Mahathir had indicated he was not interested in running for election and only wanted to contribute in any way he could.

Former federal minister Salleh Said Keruak previously claimed that PAS made Mahathir the unofficial adviser to project him as PN’s de facto leader.

Muhyiddin said he had no issue with Mahathir being made an adviser to the “state government four”, or SG4.

“The decision was made by PN, particularly the four states. Maybe they saw Mahathir as a statesman who is experienced and can advise them.”

The Bersatu president also said he supported the move and hoped the four states would be able to develop their economy further.

Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar previously said the four states agreed to make Mahathir an unofficial adviser focusing primarily on effective and efficient governance.

He said Mahathir’s role was to connect the four states with investors from countries like Japan and South Korea that had good ties with him.
