Malaysia’s folly of not preparing for the ‘canal threat’

For centuries, the Strait of Malacca has served as the single most vital gateway between the Indian and Pacific oceans. Making it one of the most strategic and geopolitically important regions on Earth. However, nearby Thailand plans to create a shortcut that would completely bypass it! But what exactly is this shortcut going to be?)

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11, 2024: Thailand’s proposed plan to construct a US$28 billion canal across the narrow Kra Isthmus is set to cripple Malaysia’s shipping industry (view the above video clip).

And is the Malaysian Government, saddled with a RM3 trillion debt (national debt + domestic debt) preparing to face the canal’s threat to the shipping industry?

If it is, there is nothing to indicate that. Instead, the Government continues to live in denial and brushes off the threat as beneficial to Malaysia.

Down south the peninsula, the super rich island republic, Singapore, has for the past decade or two started preparing for a possible drop in the shipping industry when the canal is constructed.

Singapore has invested heavily on ports in Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), and other mega foreign infrastructure projects.

What, then, will happen to the rakyat dan negara (people and country) if the debt continues to grow when the canal is constructed?

Malaysian politicians and the Government believe the messages in these visuals found in Facebook:

In Malaysia we have PAS and God, in the US we have Joe Biden and God.
