Umno a political liability to PMX and PH

Update1

Instant sacking for Penang Umno man who backed PN in Sungai Bakap

Predeep Nambiar-08 Jul 2024, 10:02 PM

The Batu Kawan Umno member had urged party colleagues to support PN so PKR would lose and Umno could get to contest the seat in the future.

Penang Umno deputy chief Shaik Hussein Mydin confirmed that the man in the video, who said he was Tajuddin Syarif of Batu Kawan Umno, was a party member.

GEORGE TOWN: A Penang Umno member, captured in a video urging his party colleagues in Sungai Bakap to throw their support behind Perikatan Nasional, has automatically been sacked from the party.

Penang Umno deputy chief Shaik Hussein Mydin said those who did not abide by party decisions were deemed to be automatically sacked from the party, adding that Umno’s disciplinary board need not even be involved.

He also said the video proved that PN had successfully “manipulated” Penang Umno members in Sungai Bakap into supporting the opposition coalition.

“At least Umno will now be more prepared for the deceitful and sneaky strategies of PN, which supposedly champions Islam. He has clearly been exploited by PN.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us in the government,” the Umno Supreme Council member told FMT, while confirming that the man in the video was from Penang Umno.

In the video, a Tajuddin Syarif from Umno’s Batu Kawan division said Umno would be able to contest the Sungai Bakap seat in the future if PKR loses this by-election to PN.

He urged his party colleagues to support PN so that this would come true and benefit Umno in the long run.

After the seat was created in 1959, MCA held the seat for two terms before losing it to Gerakan. Gerakan then joined Barisan Nasional, with Sungai Bakap remaining in the coalition’s hands until 2008 when PKR first wrested the seat.

PKR defended the seat for two more terms before PN snatched it in last year’s Penang state election.

On Saturday, PN candidate Abidin Ismail won the seat in the by-election, with a majority of 4,267 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8, 2024: The Sungai Bakap by-election is certainly a wake-up call to Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

If Anwar and PH do not face reality and act swiftly to change the rakyat (people)’s political perception on PH and the Madani Unity Government (UG), then they are unlikely to be given a second term come the next general election (GE) which must be held in 2027.

Then, it is time for multiracial Malaysians to embrace the Taliban-like PAS governance - subject to Kelantan’s style of governance.

For one, Umno is clearly a political liability to Anwar and PH.

Umno claims it has 5,000 members in Sungai Bakap? So what happened?

Only two realistic conclusions, either:

> UMNO has been rejected by the Malays, just like its No.1 lapdog MCA which has been soundly rejected by the Chinese in previous GEs; or

> WORST still, Umno and its grassroots sabotaged PH-PKR and the so-called Madani Unity Government.

Whatever, for the ruling governments (state and federal) to lose a by-election in a state like Penang to PAS shows the tolerance of the rakyat has ben breached.

There will be no political turnaround for PH in GE16 if nothing is done to change the rakyat’s perception that PMX and PH have done nothing to check the growth of racial and religious bigots who are threatening national security and harmony.

That PMX and PH have failed miserably to forward Malaysia’s socio-economic growth by instilling a balanced and more level playing field for all.

Stop blaming others, Umno leader tells party members

Veep says organisation must work harder to become relevant again.

UMNO should stop blaming others for the slide in its political fortunes, said its vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Plantation and Commodity Industries Minister said that it has to come to its senses and stop blaming PKR, DAP and other former Umno leaders.

He said this will not allow it to regain its strength on the ground.

He said the fight to become relevant again in mainstream Malaysian politics lies with each of its members, said Johari when opening the Kepala Batas Umno division at the Bertam Resort today.

Present was the division head Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

"If Umno is strong, so would its allies in Barisan Nasional, MCA and MIC be. Likewise, if we are in a weakened state, so would be MIC or MCA. It is simple logic."

Johari said that the only way back for the party is to work harder and to focus on itself rather than on what others think of them.

Recalling his era in the wilderness after losing in the 2013 general election in the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, Johari said that he needed to work harder than ever to convince people from within and outside the party to support him.

He also urged the party to go back to its roots in finding the right type of leaders to take it forward, as the party struggles to reposition itself after losing badly in the 2018 and 2022 elections although the party is now in the unity federal government.

Speaking of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the chartered accountant turned corporate tycoon, reminded the Kepala Batas delegates that Anwar has Umno DNA, as the party was the one who had identified his leadership skills and capabilities.

Hence, it is Anwar who is trying to uplift Umno and for that, the party should be grateful and learn to co-exist with him to raise the country to greater heights, he said.

Johari said the party should stop living in the past by finding a good crop of present leaders to steer it towards the future, which is full of challenges.

What is important, is to not give up, work harder and in time to come, support will return to Umno, Johari assured. – The Vibes, July 7, 2024.

No point returning to damaged, irrelevant, rejected Umno, says Annuar Musa

Party’s former sec-gen says it is now only a tool, shield for its leader.

Updated 1 month ago · Published on 29 May 2024 1:11PM

THERE is no point in returning to a party damaged by the actions of its leader, a party that is irrelevant and rejected by the people, said former Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

In a post on Facebook, he said there is no need to pay serious attention to the statement by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias that the party is considering taking back some former leaders and members who were removed during a party-wide “cleansing” after the 15th general election.

“It is up to the members concerned if they want to return to politics. That is each individual’s right.

“The party is now only a tool and shield for its leader... there is no more democracy in its organisation. It has turned on its foundation and principles, and it is unclear who is a friend or foe.

“The party’s political sense has dulled,” said the former Ketereh MP.

He said Umno has remained silent when UiTM was labelled as apartheid, and instead of addressing issues like taxes, bills, and the decreasing ringgit value, party members are busy justifying their leaders’ actions.

“No wonder many of its divisions have been abandoned, have failed, or refused to hold meetings.

“Millions of party supporters changed their allegiance during the general election, and members are now open about not following the leaders’ moves to ‘lick’ (menjilat) others.

“For sure, those who left will never return,” he said.

Last year, Annuar, who had been an Umno member from 1972 to 2022, submitted his application to join PAS.

Several prominent Umno leaders, such as former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, former Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, and Isham Jalil, were expelled in a purge.

Umno has also temporarily suspended several leaders, including Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan. – May 29, 2024
