Vote to save multiracial Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4, 2024: Penang’s Sungai Bakap voters are urged to use their ballots in the by-election on Saturday (July 6) to save multiracial Malaysia.
No News Is Bad News opines that Malaysians who cherish and love peace and harmony should send a clear message, via their ballots, that there is no room for racial and religious bigoted politics in the country.
In a ceramah (political rally) in Sungai Bakap last night, the Madani Unity Government (UG) by-election director Rafizi Ramli said the Opposition (Perikatan Nasional-PAS) leaders were devoid of ideas on how to be constructive and progressive elected representatives.
“Unlike us, when we were in the Opposition, the PN is only good at resorting to lies and deceit to instill hatred in the UG to disunite the rakyat dan negara (people and country).
“That is because they are unable to challenge us on good governance and administrative ideas,” he added.
Rafizi, who is PKR deputy president and also Economics Minister, said the glaring lies were that:
> THE removal of diesel subsidies was a cruel move by the UG; and
> PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim (PKR president) was accused of being a Yahudi (Jewish) supporter and agent - linking him to BlackRock.
“Removal of diesel subsidies is to stop foreigners and (unscrupulous) opportunists benefitting what is rightly for only Malaysians.
“The drastic drop in diesel sales at border petrol kiosks is testimony to what is right for the people and country. The savings are then channeled back to those who qualify for diesel subsidies.
“BlackRock has been around long before Anwar became Malaysia’s 10th prime minister (PMX). BlackRock was first welcomed by then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Dr M) and then Muhyiddin Yassin,” he added.
Rafizi said accusing Anwar as a Yahudi agent “is rubbish”.
“Who was the lawyer who defended the Jews who were nabbed with firearms and a plot to murder, and also another Yahudi-linked case? The lawyer is from PN!”
Rafizi said Anwar was now making all the “unpopular decisions” to save the future of Malaysians and Malaysia from mounting national debts.
“A good and responsible government cannot just allow its national debts mount unabated. We can also do the same and resort to borrowings and let the national debt mount.
“But, we are doing what is just right for the people and country’s future. The day will come when Malaysians remeber us for this,” he added.
Rafizi reminded Malaysians that the Fiscal Responsible Act that was debated by Anwar and passed on Nov 2 was to ensure that future federal governments were responsible and did not abuse the country’s financial matters by allowing the country’s national debts to mount unabated.
On the Palestine issue, Rafizi said the way for Muslims to command world respect was to ensure that Malaysia “is a world economic power to help provide financial assistance”.
“Not with the use of emotions and rhetoric,” he added.
Rafizi appealed to Sungai Bakap voters to give their ballots to the right candidate on Saturday for the sake of good governance and Malaysia’s future.

Finance Minister is accountable to Parliament with Fiscal Responsibility Act

KUALA LUMPUR: With the recently passed Fiscal Responsibility Act, the Finance Minister is now accountable to Parliament for hitting fiscal targets, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"The Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) is important as it gives the Finance Ministers powers to Parliament," he said
On whether the fiscal deficit target is achievable, Anwar said it is within reach.
"Several measures have been taken, including prudent spending," he said during the ministerial reply on the Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Nov 2).
"Implementing targeted subsidies, the capital gains tax and the high-value goods tax will increase the government's revenue by RM4bil. Hence, I believe the fiscal targets can be achieved".
"If the fiscal deficit targets are not achieved, I have no choice but to table an (adjustment plan) in Parliament. (Parliament) can support, reject or criticise by members of Parliament," he added.
He said this means that the government cannot set targets arbitrarily as it is answerable to Parliament.
He said the Procurement Act will also be tabled next year.
He also said that the notion that narrowing fiscal deficits would mean that there will be less funds for development and spending on the well-being of the people is false.
One of the objectives of the Fiscal Responsibility Act passed on Oct 11 was to reduce the fiscal deficit to 3%.
The government aims to reduce the fiscal deficit to 5% in 2023 and 4.3% in 2024.
“This reduction was not done drastically as the government has maintained an expansionary fiscal policy with its allocation for expenditure
He said there was no reduction in development expenditure (DE), adding that the RM97bil allocation in 2023 included RM13bil to pay off 1MDB bonds. For 2024, however, RM90bil was allocated for DE.
“The fact remains that there was no reduction in DE for 2024. The government is committed to allocating at least RM90bil for DE in 2025,” he said.
The second reading of the Budget 2024 was passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday(Nov 2).
The government's spending plan was passed with a voice vote.
