Sultan Nazrin clamps down on racial, religious bigots

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19, 2023: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has urged members of the royal court and Perak territorial chiefs to help prevent and contain sensationalised matters concerning race, religion and royalty.

PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has urged members of the royal court and Perak territorial chiefs to help prevent and contain sensationalised matters concerning race, religion and royalty.

He said issues concerning religion, royalty and race (known as 3R issues) currently being sensationalised and politicised can affect the country’s stability, development efforts and the economy if left unchecked.

He said firm action must be taken to prevent the matter from escalating, Bernama reported.

Sensationalised 3R issues should be promptly brought to his attention for advice and reported to the authorities and legislative bodies, if necessary.

He urged members of the Perak Dewan Negara (the royal court) and Orang Besar Jajahan (territorial chiefs) to play a proactive role in assisting to carry out preventive and containment efforts.

“Orang Besar Jajahan, in particular, should work closely with mosque committees and officials, hold discussions and work to unite the people,” Sultan Nazrin said at the 172nd meeting of the royal court at Istana Iskandariah here today.

Sultan Nazrin also urged schools to realise their crucial role in instilling unity and loyalty to the monarch and the country.

As young people were becoming the largest component of the population, they must be guided to become valuable citizens of the nation, he said. He urged territorial chiefs to cultivate close relations with the young.
