Unlike MIC, MCA is going into political extinction

 No News Is Bad News

MCA continues not to support Anwar Ibrahim … is it waiting for the rise of the Taliban-like PAS that dominates the Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin’s PN coalition? https://bernama.com/en/news.php?id=2212442 (Anwar’s meeting with MIC leaders)

Unlike MIC, MCA is going into political extinction

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4, 2023: MIC has woken from political slumber to face reality and has shown that it is supporting Anwar Ibrahim’s Unity Government (UG).

The MIC has held two political gatherings in support of Anwar and even the DAP and Lim Kit Siang.

And MIC has pledged to campaign for Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates. That’s a start for MIC’s political reformation to relevance.

Unlike the selfish and politically dinosaur-like MCA which said it will only help campaign for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.

Are there any other BN candidates contesting in the six state elections, other than Umno? That is akin to their more than 60 years of boot licking Umno - a MCA lapdog that cares nothing for the interest of rakyat dan negara (people and country).

So, the outdated and politically irrelevant MCA is set to go into “political extinction” with their politics of confrontation - unable to face reality and reform to make itself relevant to a united government against the Taliban-like PAS and Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional (PN).

If Umno and MIC can set aside their previous political rivalry, why can’t MCA?

MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon on July 5, 2023, was quoted by the media as saying the decision to only “lick Umno” was made by MCA’s central leadership following ‘in-depth discussions and analysis’.

Well, Mr Chong, it makes no difference who you support as MCA is already politically irrelevant to Malaysians, especially ethnic Chinese, who have overwhelmingly rejected MCA candidates in the last three general elections.

Dream on Mr Chong and MCA, no one will mourn MCA’s political demise!

KUALA LUMPUR – MIC’s decision to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in the six state elections has been lauded as it marks a shift in the country’s political landscape.

PH’s Gunaraj George, an influential Indian leader within the coalition, said the decision by MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran, underscores the importance of Indian unity in Malaysia.

Expressing his appreciation for the move, he said MIC's decision is a testament to the party’s commitment to putting the Indian community’s interests first.

Such solidarity, he said, ensures that voices within the Indian community are heard and that their interests will be well-represented at all levels of governance.

The PH candidate for the Sentosa seat in Selangor said MIC’s move is a reflection of the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation that PH stands for: a desire to work collaboratively for the betterment of Malaysia as a whole.

“With MIC’s support, the coalition is better equipped to address the Indian community’s specific needs and concerns,” he said when met yesterday.

As the state elections draw nearer, he reiterated that this display of Indian unity sends a powerful message to the nation, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in shaping the country’s future.

He said MIC’s decision reflects mature politics and a strategic approach in navigating the complex political landscape.

He further expressed the hope that such unity would be celebrated, and that different communities would come together for the common good, setting an example for a harmonious and prosperous Malaysia.

Gunaraj also believes that MIC’s decision holds potential implications for the state elections and beyond. – The Vibes, August 4, 2023

Kit Siang feted at MIC luncheon, first in decades of politics

PETALING JAYA: Veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang found himself in unfamiliar company for the first time in his five decades of politics when he was the guest of honour at an MIC luncheon today.

The gathering was held in Kuala Lumpur by Hulu Selangor MIC to pledge support for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Lee Kee Hiong.

It came a day after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met MIC leaders with Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a “peacekeeping” mission to iron out differences that could threaten Indian support for PH and BN in the Aug 12 state elections.

Hulu Selangor MIC chief K Balasundaram said he had never imagined in his decades with the party that he would be on the same stage with former opponent Lim, who he said had contributed a lot to the country.

“MIC leaders made a pledge to the prime minister at the meeting yesterday that we will support PH candidates in the state elections. So, today I am pledging that my division here will back the candidate from DAP.

“Yes, we have fought in the past and had lots of differences but we are putting all that behind us to ensure the unity government continues to rule for the good of our multiracial country,” the MIC central working committee member added.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Lim said the country remembered the unifying efforts of the late Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, who was deputy prime minister to Abdul Razak Hussein in the early 1970s.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has rightly called on all Malaysians, especially political leaders, to appreciate and emulate the exemplary leadership and statesmanship of the late Tun Ismail in nation-building.

“This lunch today is in line with this call and I hope more such gatherings will be held to show the unity government is indeed united,” he said.

Balasundaram said the luncheon was organised by local Indian businessman PS Samy, who is also the permanent chairman of the MIC division.

Trust me like I trust Vignes, PM tells MIC leaders

Anwar Ibrahim says he will discuss MIC’s representation in the government with other party leaders and BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he is ‘very appreciative’ of the support and confidence of MIC leaders and members in his leadership.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has sought to assuage MIC’s disappointment over its lack of government positions, urging the Barisan Nasional component to place their “trust” in him.

He asked that his administration be given one year to tackle issues surrounding poor Malaysians, including those from among the Indian community, saying he is passionate about championing their cause.

Anwar said he will discuss MIC’s representation in government with BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other party leaders, adding that a favourable outcome will not be difficult to achieve.

“I must reiterate at this point that you have shown me enough confidence and respect, and I am very appreciative of that,” he told MIC leaders and members at a meeting this afternoon.

“It is entirely my responsibility to reciprocate and respect the ethnic Indians, including MIC, which represents them.

“As much as I trust (MIC president SA) Vigneswaran, you need to trust me,” he said.

Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan chairman and PKR president, urged MIC members to continue supporting Vigneswaran as the party’s president, describing him as a politician who has mastered “the art of persuasion and diplomacy”.

He reiterated that as prime minister, it was his duty to look after the wellbeing of Malaysians of all races.

He said Malays make up the majority of the poor, but the “poorest among the poor” come from the Indian community.

However, he said, Malaysia does not need a poverty eradication policy targeted at the Malays or Indians, but a “Malaysian policy”.

“My dear friends and MIC leaders, please accept this new discourse. My policy is a Malaysian policy,” he said.

Anwar also said it is essential that all parties in the government work together to champion the people’s cause, adding that Malaysia has a bright future ahead.

“I am glad that MIC has become a great friend of mine. Let us work together. Give me the time and space (to lead the government),” he said.

Earlier, Vigneswaran said MIC’s allegiance is with Anwar and vowed to help ensure BN and PH win in the coming Aug 12 state elections.

He claimed without elaboration that MIC has received “good offers”, but said the party was not inclined to take them up.

He expressed hope that Anwar will ensure MIC and MCA are accorded due respect after the state elections are concluded.

“I’m not asking you to solve our problems in BN. I’m asking that my division leaders be assured that MIC will not be sidelined,” he said.

MCA to skip polls, will only help BN candidates

MCA says it will implement reforms within the party and focus on preparing for GE16.

PETALING JAYA: MCA has decided not to contest in the upcoming elections in six states, its secretary-general Chong Sin Woon announced.

Chong said the decision was made by MCA’s central leadership following “in-depth discussions and analysis” and in view of the current political situation.

“(MCA) will implement reforms within the party and rise again. During this period, MCA will focus its efforts on preparing for the 16th general election,” he said in a statement.

Chong added that MCA will only help campaign for Barisan Nasional’s candidates during the state polls, since it is a component of the coalition.

“MCA holds fast to its founding philosophy, particularly that any decision taken by the party must be aligned with the Federal Constitution to ensure moderation, freedom and democracy. Preserving the rakyat’s rights and interests remains our main agenda.”

Last week, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said MCA and MIC would be given seats to contest in all six states where elections are to be held.

Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said the two parties would be given suitable and “winnable” seats.

In March, MCA president Wee Ka Siong was reported to have said that the party was considering several options for the state polls, including just campaigning for BN, with MCA staying out of the polls.

Wee said MCA had tasted “more defeats than victories” in those six states since 2008, adding that the party would have a very tough time with seat talks since it had no negotiation power.

MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa had also urged the party to skip the state polls after Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Adam reportedly described MIC and MCA as liabilities for what he called their “continuous failure to secure votes” for BN.

Lokman had also accused Wee and MIC deputy president M Saravanan of “betraying” BN by signing statutory declarations to back Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister after the 15th general election.
