Give ‘Third Force’ Muda a chance in Sungai Bakap, send strong political signals to PH and PN
KUALA LUMPUR, June 8, 2024: Muda (Malaysian United Democratic Alliance) is considering to contest in the July 6 Sungai Bakap by-election in Penang.
They should, and also be given a chance.
The by-election is an opportunity for Malaysians, specifically Sungai Bakap voters, to vote for change and to send a strong political message to the Taliban-like PAS that it has no room in multi-racial Malaysia.
Also, reject the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-DAP, a message that the DAP and PH should not take the voters' support for granted.
The recent DAP’s show of support for nepotism and cronyism in the appointment of state government posts by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his deputy, Jagdeep Singh Deo, is untenable.
Also, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s so-called Madani Unity Government (UG)’s handling of racial and religious bigoted issues is just “disappointing”.
The UG’s inaction has emboldened the bigots, like Umno youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, who continue to spew racial and religious venom, threatening national unity and harmony.
So, will Sungai Bakap voters rise to reject both PH and PN, thereby sending a strong political message to save multi-racial Malaysia?

Muda mulls contesting Sungai Bakap by-election, says party source

The source says Muda was keen to find out the voting trends in view of the performance of Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional.

PETALING JAYA: The youth party Muda may contest the coming Sungai Bakap by-election in Penang, with one party leader saying it is a good time to contest in view of Pakatan Harapan’s dwindling reputation.
The Penang Muda leader, who did not wish to be named, said the party stood a chance “mainly because of the amount of groundwork we’ve done in Penang and specifically in the area”.
The source said Muda was keen to find out the voting trends especially in view of PH and Perikatan Nasional’s performance as government and opposition respectively.
Data being compiled by the party showed that PH’s reputation among their voters has been steadily declining due to their performance. Voters who were dissatisfied with the two coalitions could turn to Muda, which is actively campaigning itself as a third force, the source said.
Muda fielded 19 candidates in elections to six state assemblies last year. All lost their deposits.
The party was still analysing the pros and cons in taking part in the Sungai Bakap by-election, the source said. “I believe it’s a good time to examine the trend.”
FMT has sought comment from Muda secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi.
The Sungai Bakap seat fell vacant following the death of PAS assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24. The Election Commission has announced that the by-election would be held on July 6.
Zamri won the seat last August, defeating PH’s Nurhidayah Che Rose in a straight fight with a 1,563-vote majority.
Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim said PH would announce its candidate next week, while it was reported that Perikatan Nasional would announce their candidate on June 16.

A straight fight between DAP and PAS in Sungai Bakap’s July 6 by-election if there are no other contenders
July 6 Sungai Bakap by-election an opportunity for voters to send the right political messages
KUALA LUMPUR, June 6, 2024: Penangites in Sungai Bakap will go to the polls to elect their assemblyman on July 6.
The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff of PAS.
The by-election is an opportunity, again after the Kuala Kubu Bahru by-election in Selangor, for Malaysians, specifically Sungai Bakap voters, to send clear political messages to politicians and their parties.
The messages can be delivered through the ballots they cast based on who they vote for. And the two messages are:
> THAT there is no room for racial and religious bigots in multi-racial Malaysia - that means the voters must dump the Taliban-like PAS; and
> REJECT both PAS and Pakatan Harapan (PH)-DAP to tell both that they must change and deal harshly with racial and religious bigots - like Umno youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh.
Will the voters seize the opportunity and rise to send the right political message?

Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6
FMT Reporters-06 Jun 2024, 12:06 PM
Nomination day will be on June 22, while early voting is set for July 2.
Sungai Bakap voters will go to the polls on July 6 following the death of incumbent assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff of PAS.
PETALING JAYA: The by-election for the Sungai Bakap state seat in Penang will be held on July 6, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.
This follows the death of its assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff of PAS.
In a press conference at the commission’s headquarters this morning, EC deputy chairman Azmi Sharom said the nomination of candidates for the by-election would be held on June 22, while early voting is set for July 2.
Zamri died on May 24 after spending more than three weeks in intensive care due to stomach inflammation.
A first-time assemblyman, the Nibong Tebal PAS chief was elected to the Sungai Bakap seat during the August state election last year, defeating Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Rose in a straight fight with a 1,563-vote majority.
He first contested an election in 2018, losing the race for the Sungai Acheh state seat by 416 votes to PKR’s Zulkifli Ibrahim.
PKR first wrested Sungai Bakap from Barisan Nasional in the 2008 general election and retained it for two more terms before losing it to Perikatan Nasional last year.
