Anwar Ibrahim’s history of unfulfilled electoral promises and reforms, and now more for Sabahans
KUALA LUMPUR, May 22, 2025: The above image shows Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim sending a message to Sabahans ahead of the country’s elections before the end of this year.
It reads: If you give your mandate again to govern Sabah, MA63 and 40%, we can discuss, if acceptable, we give.”
The question is whether Sabahans and multiracial Malaysians can still believe or trust the PMX to deliver whatever election promises.
Has Anwar, into his third year in the Office of the Prime Minister, delivered and of his reform promises.
To highlight a few:
> CORRUPTION - instead his Madani Unity Government (UG) has helped in the partiual pardon of Malaysia’s biggest kleptocrat, the disgraced former prime minister Najib “1MDB” Razak, and now engineering to place him under house (in Najib’s case bungalow would be more appropriate) arrest. That is as good as freeing the national thief and it’s called backdoor freedom!
> IGNORING national unity and harmony being threatened and failing to reform for multiracial Malaysians and Malaysia by not taking action against the real/significant culprits (read as racial and religious bigoted politicians) like Umno youth chief Dr Akmal “Ham/I Am Malay First Unpatriotic” Saleh;
FLASHBACK: A senator has asked why Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has yet to be investigated for sedition after posting a picture of himself holding a sword on Facebook.
Akmal had posted the picture, taken during a recent trip to Japan, on March 14. The picture was captioned: “No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling.”
FLASHBACK: Lawyer and social activist Siti Kasim said: "I recently saw a TikTok video where he (Akmal) was seen calling the Malays to be ready. He was seen sharpening a parang ... this is something the police must act on.
"It is like he is instigating the Malays to create problems. Islam never teaches us all this," said Siti.
> A SECOND attempt to rid his party of Reformasi reformists led by incumbent PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli. So much for Anwar’s Reformasi commiitment because the “Abim and Umno DNA” in his is too overwhelming for him to discard the politics of nepotism/dynastic politics (as reported by Singapore’s Straits Times today) and patronage ala Umno-style; and
> IT’S a long list of promised reforms spewed in his election promises in the last general election (GE15).
Also, if the PMX is sincere with his message above, why wait after the Sabah election? Why not now?
And the rights or Sabahans and Sabah under MA63 are legal, so what is there to discuss or even to consider acceptable?
Just implement or give Sabahans and Sabah whatever is rightfully theirs!
So, can Sabahans really trust Anwar (or Semenanjong politicians and their local boot lickers) to deliver his electoral promises?
With Sabah’s oil and gas being “siphoned” away by West Malaysia via Petronas for some 51 years or since 1974, what has Sabah benefited today?
Majority of Sabahans still live in poverty and the basic infrastructure in Sabah (water, electricity, etc) is still wanting, especially in the rural areas.
The only sure way to fight for and your country's rights under MA63 is to unite and vote the way of Sarawak for Sarawakians , as seen today.
Sabah for Sabahans is the only political power to progress your country.
