FLASHBACK: A senator has asked why Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has yet to be investigated for sedition after posting a picture of himself holding a sword on Facebook. Akmal had posted the picture, taken during a recent trip to Japan, on March 14. The picture was captioned: “No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling.”

FLASHBACK: Lawyer and social activist Siti Kasim said: "I recently saw a TikTok video where he (Akmal) was seen calling the Malays to be ready. He was seen sharpening a parang ... this is something the police must act on.

"It is like he is instigating the Malays to create problems. Islam never teaches us all this," said Siti.

Umno, left with only 26 seats in the 222-seat Parliament after GE15, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his Unity Government (UG) and PKR cannot even act against a racial and religious bigoted Umno youth chief like Dr Akmal “Ham/I Am Malay First unpatriotic ” Saleh.

Malaysia’s political reform is dead due to Umno and DAP and a ‘toothless’ PKR

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21, 2025: Prof Dr James Chin has posted on Facebook a no-holds barred on Malaysia’s political reality/dilemma.

While Umno and DAP continue to trade racial and religious blows, not for real efforts to uphold/forge national unity and harmony, the toothless PKR led by Anwar Ibrahim and his Madani Unity Government (UG) do nothing to stop the bigotry.

Instead, Anwar is trying to consolidate his hold on PKR and PH by getting rid of the loyal and committed reformist in PKR.

Clearly, the “Abim and Umno DNA” in Anwar is too overwhelming for him to discard the politics of nepotism and patronage ala Umno-style.

The Reformasi refomists in PKR, led by incumbent deputy presidernt Rafizi Ramli, are a stumbling block or thorns to Anwar’s political preference for nepotism and patronage.

On Friday, the PKR grassroots will not be only voting for a deputy president but for the future of PKR’s Reformasi.

Alright, let's stop sugarcoating this. The political manoeuvring we're witnessing from UMNO and DAP isn't just disingenuous; it's a cynical, calculated play designed to keep their respective power bases locked down, consequences be damned. This isn't about leadership or national interest; it's a naked grab for tribal loyalty, and it's tearing the country apart at the seams.

When you see Akmal or any other UMNO mouthpiece spewing venom at DAP, don't be fooled by the righteous indignation. That's not conviction; that's a direct appeal to the rural Malay heartland voters, a desperate plea for votes from a demographic they’ lost to PAS in 2022 and 2023. They're not engaging in genuine ideological warfare; they're manufacturing outrage to shore up their own dwindling support.

And in turn, when DAP fires back at UMNO, they’re not suddenly standing up for some lofty ideal. They're simply validating the urban non-Malay narrative, reinforcing their own base's perception that they are the only bulwark against Malay hegemony.

Let's be crystal clear: these two parties don't actually clash where it hurts them most – in their core constituencies. Their "confrontations" are precisely choreographed performances, staged for maximum impact on their pre-existing fan clubs, not for any meaningful national dialogue.

The audacious claim that UMNO has somehow "tamed" DAP isn't just false; it's a delusional fantasy. The truth is far more humiliating for UMNO: PAS didn't just challenge UMNO; they decisively broke them in the 2022 and 2023 elections. PAS has effectively neutered UMNO, leaving them scrambling for relevance.

The younger Malay generation isn't buying UMNO's decrepit narrative about UMNO being the 'Malay protector'' anymore. They're gravitating towards PAS and PN, sensing a stronger, more authentic voice. Figures like Akmal, clinging to the dying embers of UMNO's past glory, genuinely believe that by doubling down on this inflammatory "Ketuanan Melayu Islam" (KMI) rhetoric, they can somehow reclaim lost ground. This isn't strategy; it's a desperate, last-ditch gamble from a party bleeding relevance. UMNO's bag of tricks is not just thinning out; it's practically empty.

More and more, Malays recognize UMNO as a fundamentally corrupt, ossified institution, utterly incapable of meaningful self-reform, even after the seismic shifts of 2018. Zahid is the symbol, a breathing monument to UMNO's abject refusal to change.

And here's the bitter conclusion: the more UMNO, through Akmal, attacks DAP, the more it will galvanize and solidify non-Malay support for DAP. They'll scream about UMNO being the only one who can tame DAP and stop "non-Malay interests" being asserted, and DAP, in turn, will return fire to show its base that it can "stand up" to UMNO. Both sides will indeed achieve their narrow, self-serving political objectives.

But Malaysia? Malaysia loses everything.

Because this relentless, toxic KMI rhetoric, amplified by UMNO, makes it utterly impossible for PH government to forge any semblance of national unity between Malays and non-Malays. It won't just create a gulf; it will actively widen it, irrevocably fracturing the very fabric of society. It will exacerbate divisions, potentially deepening the chasm between East and West Malaysia. It will render all attempts at genuine political reform dead on arrival, effectively steering the nation down the very path Mahathir always envisioned: a country condemned to permanent division, perpetually at odds with itself.
