A Government that backs pencuri-pencuri (thieves)

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22, 2026: Malaysia’s political scenario is in turmoil because the federal government (read as Umno) backs pencuri-pencuri (thieves).

In fact, the bigger the pencuri and the theft, the more support it gets!

The racial and religious bigoted Umno pencuri-pencuri wants Malaysia’s No. 1 thief, the disgraced and shameless former Umno president and prime minister Najib “1MDB” freed so that he can enjoy/distribute the goodies the millions, if not billions, of Ringgit stolen from the rakyat dan negara (people and country).

Malaysians, in the last general election (GE15), had rejected the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN), leaving it with only 26 MPs in the 222-seat Parliament.

It is now trying to make a comeback using racial and religious bigotry and with the help of the bigots from the Taliban-like PAS.

Bersatu, led by the unpatriotic racist, Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin, is neither here nor there after a fallout with PAS in Perikatan Nasional (PN), now dominated by PAS.

Johor has been pro-BN since Merdeka (Independence) 1957, hence its recent big electoral victory.

If the same “love” for BN-Umno is also the “political trend” in other states, then God Bless Malaysians and Malaysia - if they think the future is at the hands of pencuri-pencuri.

HOW MALAYSIA TREATS CORRUPT POLITICIANS

A. ABUSE OF ROYAL PARDONS

The classic case of the convicted criminal, Najib Razak (Former Prime Minister.

What we do is …..we bring the politician  who stole BILLIONS into court, find him guilty and then very quickly we go to the Palace to ask the King to reduce his  jail sentence and fines by half.

If that is not good enough, we then run to the Palace a few weeks later to get the King to pardon him for his crimes of stealing millions, if not, billions of PUBLIC  money.

B. IF THAT TAKES TOO LONG… THERE IS THE DNAA TO ALLOW THESE POLITICIANS CHARGED WITH CORRUPTION TO STAY OUT OF PRISON

We pretend to charge the politician for corruption in court, and let the whole case stays in the court files for a few years.

Then suddenly  one day the Attorney-General Office decides to open the file to NOT to prosecute the  corrupt politician goes in front of a judge  to apply for a DNAA ( Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal) decision for the corrupt politician. DNAA means the corrupt politician is released from the charge for now, and he is formally found NOT guilty.

According to research by the pMalaysian civil society group Projek SAMA, at least 10 high-profile cases involving high-ranking politicians have been dropped halfway since 2018 through a Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNAA) or  the case was totally withdrawn after indiction.

Prominent Politicians Granted a DNAA or Had Charges Dropped

1. AHMAD ZAHID HAMIDI ( Current Deputy Prime Minister):

Granted a DNAA on 47 corruption charges regarding the Yayasan Akalbudi foundation.

The decision is currently being challenged by the Malaysian Bar.

2. NAJIB RAZAK  (Former Prime Minister): Granted a DNAA for three money laundering charges linked to SRC International, and another DNAA in the RM6.6 billion IPIC criminal breach of trust case. (Note: He remains jailed on other 1MDB-related convictions).

4. MUSA AMAN  (Former Sabah Chief Minister): Had 46 corruption and money laundering charges dropped in 2020.

5. DAIM ZAINUDDIN (Former Finance Minister):

His case dropped due to Death (Nolle Prosequi / Abatement).

6. Other cases of  politicians charged for corruption which ended prematurely as follows:

(a) AHMAD MASLAN

The prosecution originally requested a DNAA after he agreed to settle a financial compound. However, the High Court judge exercised judicial discretion and granted him a full acquittal instead

(b)TENGKU ADNAN

He was initially granted a DNAA in a separate RM1 million case, but for his main RM2 million corruption case, he was fully convicted and sentenced to prison. The Court of Appeal subsequently overturned that conviction and acquitted him entirely.

(c) SHAHRIR ABDUL SAMAD,

@The prosecution asked the court for a DNAA "based on new developments." The defense countered that a DNAA was unfair since investigations were initially incomplete, and the judge ordered a full acquittal on his RM1 million money laundering charge.

(d)ABDUL AZEEZ ABDUL RAHMAN,

In September 2022, the former Tabung Haji chairman was given a DNAA on nine corruption and money laundering charges after the prosecution requested a pause to look into new representations. (Note: He successfully applied for a full acquittal a few months later in December 2022)

(e) NASHARUDDIN MAT ISA

In 2020, the former PAS deputy president was granted a DNAA over 16 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) regarding foundation salaries, though his remaining charges were ordered to stand trial.

C. THE PUBLIC BACKLASH ON TOO FREQUENT DNAAs FOR POLITICIANS CHARGED WITH CORRUPTION

The frequency of these DNAAs has triggered sharp criticism from electoral watchdog BERSIH.

Watchdogs argue that dropping trials after a prima facie (sufficient initial evidence) case has already been established erodes public trust.

They continue to lobby the government to separate the roles of the Attorney-General (a political appointee) and the Public Prosecutor to prevent perceived political interference.

D.  MEANWHILE … for the ordinary Rakyat;

A 29-year-old unemployed father of two, Muhamad Azrul Haqim Azman, was sent to jail for a month after admitting to stealing basic household items worth RM113.70 from a supermarket in Kuala Terengganu in January 2026.   He had fallen on hard times after losing his job and had no steady income. He is married and has two young children, aged four years and just three months.

YET, no effort was made to ask the King to pardon this poor man or reduced his sentence or given a DNAA.

FACT:

WHAT A JOKE IN OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
