King’s advice to Muslims who continue to spew racial, religious bigotry
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28, 2023: Yet again, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has advised racial and religious bigots in the country to adhere to speaking the truth, being honest and steering clear of slander.
His Majesty said hurling insults, lies and slander would only undermine the country’s stability and harmony.
“Let’s take heed of the downfall and collapse of civilisations and the great powers of the world as a result of slander that dominated and festered in the lives of their people,” he said in his address at the national Maulidur Rasul celebration in the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, has called on the people to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s noble character in speaking the truth, being honest and steering clear of slander.
Sultan Abdullah said hurling insults, lies and slander will only undermine the country’s stability and harmony.
“Let’s take heed of the downfall and collapse of civilisations and the great powers of the world as a result of slander that dominated and festered in the lives of their people,” he said in his address at the national Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.
He said that after the death of the Prophet, slander had led to the assassination of the third caliph, Uthman Affan.
“Such is the magnitude of the ‘fitnah’ (slander) and deceit, which not only led to the demise of a prominent Islamic leader but also destroyed harmony and stability of the country,” he said.
Sultan Abdullah also said Muslims have always been reminded to avoid and stay away from those who do not speak the truth.
He said the teachings of Islam brought by the Prophet encompassed various aspects of human life, including navigating and governing a country with various races and religions as well as a spectrum of different socio-economic perspectives.
The “sirah” (history) of the Prophet also reflected his expertise in governing a country.
“Through his wisdom, the Prophet succeeded in freeing mankind of ignorance and building a civilised generation,” he said.
The King said the Messenger of Allah had brought the message of Islam to foster development in the Middle East. It became a catalyst for progress and success of communities in other continents which were shrouded in darkness at that time.
He expressed optimism that Malaysia would attain the pinnacle of genuine success by anchoring the country’s governance on Islamic law and the noble characteristics of the Prophet.
He said “Maqasid Syariah” (paramount objectives in Islamic law) should be used as a basic framework in the delivery of services so the welfare of the people continues to be safeguarded by the government.
The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, also attended the celebration, themed, “Perpaduan Teras Malaysia Madani”.
Also present were Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
