Hui Ying slammed for holding mic for dad instead of attending to ministerial work on the first day of her duty

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14, 2023: DAP’s Lim Hui Ying was made a deputy finance minister by Malaysia’s 10th prime minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (Dec 12, 2023).

Hui Ying is a daughter of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and also sister to former Finance Minister Guan Eng, now party chairman.

No News Is Bad News reproduces below a text and image found circulating in social media (WhatsApp).

It condemns Hui Ying for placing more importance to holding a microphone for her father than attending to her ministerial work for the rakyat dan negara (people and country).

We refrain from making any comment nor judgment on the message being circulated. We leave it to our readers to judge themselves (whether it’s fair comment or otherwise):

The cabinet reshuffle that was recently announced shocked many to the guts, especially when it comes to the most important portfolio of MOF. We all knew well that 2024 is going to be a difficult year for MOF, with various overlapping new tax regime such as luxury tax, capital gain tax, e-invoicing etc. Coupled with subsidy removals, the rakyat can only expect personnel with strong character and proven track record to execute them.

Guess what? We got a Senator as MOF2, and more troubling - Ms Lim Hui Ying to deputise him. Ms Lim Hui Ying, to many who are familiar with vernacular education scene which fell under her purview as Deputy Minister of Education prior to the reshuffling, has delivered almost nothing but confusion.

She herself was confused as to the teachers' availability, Budget allocation on vernacular education, etc.

Worse, instead of getting her facts right, she went on to blabber misleading statements in the parliament, such as:
Giving wrong figures about new teachers and claims that there are no shortage of teacher.

And now we have her in the MOF.

Is the Unity Government's objective to further confuse the rakyat when they put a confusing person taking charge of one of the most instrumental Ministry?

Tax and Subsidy aside, the confused LHY will have to then explain about unemployment rates, interest rates, currency position - issues that are far more complex than availability of vernacular school teachers, and approval for schools to be built.

Bumpy road for her, and bumpy road for Malaysians who were, up until Tuesday, was hoping for better leadership in the Ministry of Finance.

We can only have our finger crossed that DS Amir delivers his bid. It’s better to have LHY perform a dormant role in MOF than further confusing the people - like how she did in the MOE.
