Umno a venomous snake

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29, 2025: The racist and religious bigoted Umno has admitted it is a venomous snake.

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi slammed former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Dr M) for calling the party a fly in the unity government.

For once, Malaysians have no qualms or beef with Puad’s description of Umno.

And the anti-multiracial-national unity Umno is continuously showing its true colours by spewing venom to dvide Malaysians and threaten national unity.

Umno’s spreading of bigotry is led by its youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh who use religion and religious matters to stir emotions among communities.

Former Umno stroingman Dr M was “being kind” to describe Umno as a lalat (fly) but Puad, an Umno Supreme Council member, confirms what multiracial Malaysians have been lamenting.

That Umno is a “political snake” that cannot be trusted again after governing Malaysia for six decades under the corrupt Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN).

And this is not the first time former and Umno leaders have described their party as a snake, no m,atter what specie it may be.

Umno a venomous snake, not a fly, says Puad

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi slams former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for calling the party a ‘fly’ in the unity government.

Umno’s Puad Zarkashi said Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the ‘fly’, citing his actions, moving from one party to another, after being sacked by Bersatu.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has described the party as a “venomous snake”, not a fly in the unity government, as claimed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said Mahathir, also a former Umno president, had forgotten that he once tried to reduce the party to a “fly” and even sought to destroy it to make way for Bersatu.

However, Puad said, it was Mahathir who ultimately became a “fly” after being ousted by Muhyiddin Yassin’s people from Bersatu, following accusations that he made the party subservient to DAP, while leading the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

He added that such claims followed Bersatu’s heavy defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election in November 2019.

The by-election saw Bersatu, which was then part of PH, suffer a major loss with a 15,086-vote deficit to Barisan Nasional.

“Mahathir had to ‘fly’ from one place to another to find a new home,” Puad said, referring to the former prime minister launching Pejuang after being sacked from Bersatu, then leaving Pejuang to join a group of Malay-Muslim parties and NGOs called, Gerakan Tanah Air, or GTA.

“Umno is not affected by being labelled a fly. In fact, Umno has proven to be a venomous snake in the Nenggiri and Mahkota by-elections.”

Yesterday, Mahathir had referred to Umno’s representatives in the government as “flies” citing a comment made by DAP leader Nga Kor Ming about Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh.

In response to Mahathir’s remarks, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said: “We respect his age, but not his opinion.”

In 2020, then Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan clarified that Mahathir, Mukhriz Mahathir, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Maszlee Malik and Amiruddin Hamzah were not sacked from Bersatu but had their party membership “automatically nullified”.

Wan Saiful said the five MPs’ membership was terminated after they joined the opposition bench in the Dewan Rakyat when it sat for one day on May 18, 2020.

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dismissed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's characterisation of the party as "flies" in the unity government, reported The New Straits Times.

"We should show him respect — he is of a certain age — but I do not respect his opinion," Zahid said when asked about Dr Mahathir's comments at the MCA's Chinese New Year open house today.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir, the former prime minister and Umno president, said the Barisan Nasional lynchpin was "nothing more than flies" in the government.

He remarked while commenting on DAP's Nga Kor Ming's response to attacks by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh.

Last week, Nga, the Housing and Local Government Minister, said he would not engage in arguments with Akmal as "a lion doesn't argue with a fly" over the "ham" sandwich issue.

Dr Mahathir claimed Umno had "accepted" what Nga said, which was why he termed the party as "flies."

A number of top BN leaders were also at MCA's open house, including party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon. - January 29, 2025

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has likened Umno and Bersatu politicians to snakes, with the former being pythons and the latter, grass snakes.

The veteran politician dredged up a serpent analogy when asked about party secretary-general Annuar Musa's claim that Bersatu is courting Umno lawmakers.

"This is a story of pythons being invited to a grass snake's nest," the Umno veteran told reporters in Parliament this evening.

However, the Gua Musang MP, who is better known as Ku Li, distinguished himself from his fellow Umno MPs, claiming that he was one of those with a lethal venom gland.

"No. I am 'very poisonous'. (They) are not keen to accept me maybe," he said when asked if he was one of those being courted.

Tengku Razaleigh also said he only read about rumours that up to 40 Umno MPs would cross over to Bersatu, and has yet to communicate with Annuar on the matter.

He also denied a perception that Umno would be destroyed by the alleged departure of its leaders.

"How to be destroyed? Umno is a grassroots party. Masses-based.

"Umno is everywhere from the villages to the remotest corners. In government offices, in businesses there are Umno people," he said, adding that the party's long history would make it very difficult for enemies to destroy it.

Last Friday, former Kelantan Umno chief Mustapha Mohamed became the first from the former ruling party to join Bersatu.

Following this, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's media and communication advisor A Kadir Jasin claimed that up to 40 Umno lawmakers could switch to Bersatu.

Should the 40 jump ship as claimed, Bersatu would have the highest number of Parliament seats with 53, making it the most powerful in the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition.
