Umno continues to lobby for corrupt jailbird Najib

 No News Is Bad News

Anwar Ibrahim's Madani Unity Government's integrity is at stake if it consents to freeing the corrupt Najib “1MDB” Razak.

Umno continues to lobby for corrupt jailbird Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7, 2023: It is truly amazing how Umno continues with its political arrogance, living in a world of its own as if it is still the “big brother”.

It continues to lobby and demand the release of its disgraced former prime minister Najib “1MDB” Razak to be freed from prison.

The pea-brain Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil, in supporting corruption, said jailbird Najib’s release was a priority for party members.

“If the unity government fails to ensure Najib gets proper justice in his court case conviction, Umno’s relationship with the government is going to face difficulties and risk failure,” he told Sinar Harian.

Is that so?

Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani Unity Government (UG) has many better and urgent matters to attend to, than to free a corrupt politician like the shameless Najib.

Isham seems to have forgotten the supreme power of the 222-seat Parliament in determining a ruling federal government.

Currently, Umno has only 26 MPs in Parliament and even if it pulls out support for Anwar, the UG will still remain in power (albeit without the two-thrids majority in Parliament), if the DAP, PKR, Amanah and the Sarawak-Sabah bloc remain united.

So, Umno, stop threatening and rooting for your corrupt jailbird Najib’s freedom. Leave UG at your peril and dig your political grave deeper - becoming politically irrelevant to multi-racial-religious Malaysia.

Umno is only in the UG at the pleasure of Anwar who can boldly decide to give you the boot, if he so pleases.

Trouble ahead for Umno-unity govt relations if no justice for Najib: Isham Jalil

Former PM’s release a priority for most grassroot members, says party’s Supreme Council member

PETALING JAYA – The release of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak remains the main focus of the majority of Umno grassroot members, said the party’s Supreme Council member Isham Jalil.

He said demanding the release of the former prime minister from prison is no longer a secret among Umno leadership and the unity government.

“If the unity government fails to ensure Najib gets proper justice in his court case conviction, Umno’s relationship with the government is going to face difficulties and risk failure,” he told Sinar Harian.

Isham said he is worried that Umno grassroots would continue to protest against the government if there is no seriousness in dealing with Najib’s case.

“This is especially so with Umno leadership facing difficulties in convincing party members to support DAP in the unity government,” he said.

Najib, a former Umno president, began his 12-year prison sentence on August 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his guilty verdict over embezzlement of funds in his SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption case.

Isham said there are still many grassroot members in Umno who are loyal supporters of Najib.

“The most asked question to Supreme Council members in any party event is what actions are the government and Umno taking in defending ‘Bossku’,” he said, referring to the popular moniker for the former premier who led the country from 2009 to 2018.

“Not only are Najib’s staunch supporters demanding justice for him, but also Malaysians who are neutral, including some former judges and lawyers who are voicing concern that Najib did not receive a fair trial,” he said.

In view of this, Isham said that if the government or Umno are not serious in defending Najib’s fate, the matter could further complicate the relationship between Umno and the rest of the unity government and could likely lead to failure.

On October 21, more than 2,000 Umno members rallied outside the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, calling for Najib to be granted a royal pardon.

A campaign is also ongoing to gather signatures from students in favour of the petition calling for his release. – The Vibes, November 7, 2023

Hey Umno, 1MDB problem can never be over

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hyQRv16j5U (The legacy of Malaysia’s 1MDB scandal on politics and corruption-fighting)

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7, 2023: Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan says the “1MDB problem” is coming to an end, as the Government is almost done settling the investment company’s debts.

You are so very wrong Ahmad! The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) problem can never be over or allowed to be forgotten.

Ahmad, you sound so proud, 1MDB problem over? Who is paying the debt? Malaysian taxpayers!

That is the problem with Umno politicians and leaders. They manage the country’s finances like managing their own pockets.

No responsibility and no accountability.

And, they still have the audacity to want the man responsible for the 1MDB financial fiasco, the disgraced former prime minister Najib Razak, to be freed from prison!

No wonder Umno is in political dire straits, losing support from Malays and Malaysians.

With politicians like Ahmad, Umno’s political fortune will continue to “languish in prison” like the shameless jailbird, Najib.

Currently, Umno is still only politically relevant for the survival of multi-racial-religious Malaysia so that Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani Unity Government can govern.

When another viable political entity emerges to replace Umno, law abiding and peace-loving will continue to reject the Taliban-like PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) led by the tacist Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin.

No News Is Bad News reproduces below a news report on the garbage spewed by Ahmad in Parliament yersterday:

1MDB problem almost over, says Ahmad Maslan

The deputy finance minister says the remaining debt of RM5.15 billion would be settled next year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan believes that the “1MDB problem” is coming to an end, as the government is almost done settling the investment company’s debts.

He said the outstanding debt stood at RM5.15 billion at the end of September.

A payment of US$1 billion (RM4.65 billion) is expected next year from the International Petroleum Investment Company of Abu Dhabi, while the overall balance of the trust account amounted to RM9.85 billion.

The sum is enough to settle the remaining debt, he said. “I think the 1MDB problem is almost over,” he told the Dewan Rakyat in winding-up the committee-stage debate on the 2024 budget.

He said the government will only need to make an interest payment of RM287 million next year.

Fighting off Goldman Sachs

Ahmad said the government was taking measures to counter the demands by investment bank Goldman Sachs which commenced arbitration proceedings against the government in London last month.

The company sued the government following a disagreement over the settlement terms, which require Goldman Sachs to make an interim payment of US$250 million if Malaysia fails to recover at least US$500 million from the company by August 2022.

Goldman Sachs claims that the US$500 million threshold has been met.

“So we are taking action to have the suit by Goldman Sachs dismissed.”
