KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign investors extended their selling streak on Bursa Malaysia for the ninth consecutive week, registering outflows of RM1.07b last week.

“They recorded net selling every day last week, with the highest outflow recorded on Tuesday at RM368 million,” the MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd unit said in its fund flow report for the week ending Dec 20, 2024.

This was followed by Friday (RM235.2 million), Monday (RM176.3 million), Wednesday (RM150.2 million), and Thursday (RM135.4 million).

“The sectors that recorded the highest net foreign inflows were property (RM42.6 million), technology (RM40.2 million), and plantation (RM29.4 million),” MIDF Research said.

Meanwhile, the sectors that recorded the highest net foreign outflows were financial services (RM500.5 million), healthcare (RM168.9 million), and utilities (RM160.5 million).

In contrast, local institutions continued to support the local bourse for the ninth consecutive week, with net purchases totalling RM1.05 billion in domestic equities.

This was an increase from the net inflow of RM995.5 million in the preceding week.

On the other hand, local retailers turned net buyers of domestic equities, recording RM13.8 million in net purchases after four consecutive weeks of net selling.

“The average daily trading volume (ADTV) showed growth across all investor categories last week,” MIDF said.

“Local retail investors and foreign investors recorded double-digit increases, rising by 10.2% and 20.9%, respectively; while local institutional investors saw a more modest increase of 5.7%,” it said.

Across Asia, foreign investors maintained a net selling trend last week across the eight Asian markets tracked by MIDF, with total outflows of US$4.7 billion (RM21.11 billion), a figure which is 2.6 times higher than the previous week.

“The majority of the outflows were concentrated in Taiwan and South Korea,” the research house said.

Taiwan recorded the highest net foreign outflow at US$2.24 billion (RM10.06 billion), marking the second consecutive week of net selling, after Taiwan’s central bank maintained its policy interest rate at 2% and raised its 2024 economic growth forecast to 4.25% from 3.82%.

Meanwhile, it said foreign investors shifted to net selling in South Korea at US$1.61 billion (RM7.23 billion), a sharp reversal from the net buying of US$28.6 million (RM 128.48 million) recorded the previous week, as the country’s central bank chief stated that the economic impact of political turmoil stemming from martial law will be limited, following Parliament’s vote to impeach President Yook Suk Yeol.

1MDB, subsidiaries sue Amicorp and its founder for facilitating laundering of US$7b (RM31.85b)

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23, 2024: Embattled Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and its subsidiaries are reported to have begun legal action against Amicorp Group and its co-founder Toine Knipping for allegedly facilitating the laundering of over US$7 billion (RM31.85 billion) in misappropriated funds.

They are seeking more than US$1 billion (RM4.5 billion) in damages from the global corporate services provider and its eight entities.

PETALING JAYA: 1MDB and its subsidiaries have begun legal action against Amicorp Group and its co-founder Toine Knipping for allegedly facilitating the laundering of over US$7 billion (RM31.85 billion) in misappropriated funds.

 Toine Knipping.

The lawsuit claims that Amicorp played a vital role in fraudulent transactions from 2009 to 2014, which resulted in the theft of funds from 1MDB.

Amicorp is accused of providing access to the global financial system through its subsidiary, Barbados-registered Amicorp Bank, allowing the repeated cycling of assets and the creation of a false paper trail to cover up the stolen funds.

The stolen money was allegedly funnelled through a global network that spanned Singapore, Barbados, Curacao, Hong Kong, and the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

“We are bringing this action to seek justice for the role we allege Amicorp played in facilitating the laundering and ultimate dissipation of billions of dollars in stolen funds,” a spokesman for the 1MDB board said in a statement.

“We allege this was achieved through the creation of structures designed to purposefully obscure the theft, and that Amicorp deliberately and knowingly created complex structures to mask the stolen monies as assets and make them difficult to trace.”

The spokesman said there was strong evidence suggesting that Amicorp, at its highest levels, was fully aware of its involvement in a “dishonest and illegal money laundering operation” designed to divert funds meant for Malaysians.

The lawsuit, filed in the BVI on Dec 20 against eight Amicorp entities and Knipping, seeks damages exceeding US$1 billion (RM4.55 billion) from the global corporate services provider.

1MDB is seeking to hold Amicorp accountable for “dishonest assistance in breaches of fiduciary duty and conspiracy to commit unlawful acts”.

The suit was taken out by Baker & Partners (BVI) Limited, Tom Smith KC of South Square Chambers, James Bailey of 7 King’s Bench Walk, and Lim Chee Wee Partnership, which acts as the global coordinating counsel for 1MDB’s asset recovery efforts.

1MDB said Amicorp had faced regulatory action and fines, including in the Netherlands, Abu Dhabi, Malta and the BVI, for compliance failures in multiple jurisdictions.

“We are confident that our claim will succeed and are committed to holding accountable the institutions and individuals involved in misappropriating money from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, while ensuring the recovery and restitution of these assets back to the Malaysian people,” the spokesman added.

So, what are you waiting for PMX, call for GE16 now!

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23, 2024: Yesterday, Vanakkam Malaysia News reported Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim as expressing confidence that his so-called Madani Untity Government (UG) would secure victory if a general election is held now.

Really? So what are your waiting for? Go ahead quickly!

Perhaps a snap general election (GE) would be good for the rakyat dan negara (people and country).

Multiracial Malaysians who treasure peace and harmony, and national unity, would then have a chance to give the racial and religious bigoted politicians the boot out of elected office.

There are many such bigots in the Taliban-like PAS, the racist Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu (PN-Bersatu) led by the unpatriotic Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin and the racist Umno Baru-led Barisan Nasional (BN) featuring the untouchable racial and religious bigoted Umno youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh.

For PMX to express such confidence, is he thinking of calling for a snap general election (GE16) which can be called in 2027?

First when the general election is called the political parties in unity government should be united if not its a election base on the peoples trust on the popular political party. Looking at the sitution its quite clear UMNO and political parties in Sabah and Sawarak will be united again and contest the general election on their unity like before. There is a high possibility their political party together popularity will give a easy win in the coming election.

Theres only one thing come up to my mind. Everyone says they will win but why none of them say, they will resign if they cant fulfill what they said. Think this should be a mandatory for all the politician. They start to give excuses n keep on going, but we still believe miracle will happend for all, but in reality everyone keep 'rakyat' in dark and use all kind of propogada to split us.

What unity government is he talking about? PMX and his cronies should stop divide and rule policy, this is what is causing disunity among the citizens. PMX will not open his mouth on inter religious or education matters, he's worried he might loose his popularity amongst his people. This is a none fact...during election campaigns fantastic promises given to the nation and it's people, once in power it's only a talk show. We realised this in the 13th general election

Why don't you try if you're so confident
