Pooh-pooh for Anwar’s call to the private sector for flood aid
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3, 2024: Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim called the private sector to help with flood aid.
If the response is poor, the PMX deserves the pooh-pooh. Perhaps only the usual "suspects" or crony businessmen will response or forced to response.
Anwar has only himself to blame for the rakyat (people) and private sector’s pooh-pooh.
Why?
This is a sample of public responses posted on Facebook:

Had Najib’s fine of Rm210 million was now reduced to Rm50 million, the government could use Rm170 million to help with flood aid.The question of asking private sector to help with flood aid does not arise.

I thought we got plenty of resources to help Palestinians. Why does this kind of task to help our own people have to be pushed to private companies?

Jakim is sitting on tons of cash …use it. Allocation is given freely to certain religious bodies..call them to use their funds. Minsters can do an individual donation…they are extremely wealthy…having everything for free.
The citizens did their best helping each other during the COVID pandemic. Now with everything being expansive and not is free for us..we have to think of our rainy days.

So much of funds to Gaza and some were promised to other countries. What has happened to our own money for the rakyat..what was cost of all the travelling done around the world..Should have managed your own before going around advertising yourself..

Anwar urges private sector to step up flood relief efforts
02 Dec 2024, 02:04 pm
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 2): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the private sector to join in providing assistance to alleviate the burden on flood victims, whether through funding or deploying aid machinery to affected areas.
He noted that government-linked investment companies under Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) had mobilised their subsidiaries, while local banks had taken proactive measures to support recovery efforts.
"In the current situation, it is good not only to contribute funds but also to deploy machinery. Let private companies from Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Penang also get involved on the ground," he said at the monthly gathering with staff of the Prime Minister's Department for December 2024 here on Monday.
Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, along with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, were also in attendance.
Anwar emphasised that the government had ensured the full deployment of aid machinery, involving the civil service, relevant agencies, and community support, to assure immediate assistance reaches those in need.
Floods have plagued the country since last week, with Kelantan being the worst-hit state, reporting 85,778 flood victims from 26,781 families currently housed in 251 temporary relief centres as of Monday.
Other affected states included Terengganu, Perak, Johor, Kedah, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, and Melaka, with a total of 138,052 flood victims recorded across the nine states. - Bernama/TheEdge
