KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5, 2024: Next year looks set to be extremely exciting for car buyers as most manufacturers have lined up new models, hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs), for launches.
Amid the stiff competition, Perodua yesterday unveiled a super-looking EV and the selling price is reported to be under RM90,000 (view the above video).
Perodua is hoping that its eMO-II will help consolidate its position as Malaysia’s top-selling car manufacturer.

Top 10 Cars and Brands: Malaysia's Best Sellers in the First Half of 2024
The first six months of the year have flown by quickly! It was a thrilling period for the Malaysian automotive sector, with numerous new car debuts, ranging from traditional to electric vehicles, along with several exciting events and more.
In Malaysia, BYD has been making significant strides in sales, with the company registering 4,368 units in the first half of 2024, indicating growing popularity. The top three best-selling car brands during this period were Perodua, Proton, and Toyota. Leading the pack in individual model sales was the Perodua Bezza, which recorded the highest number of units sold at 47,100, highlighting its strong market presence and consumer appeal.
Examining the data helps us understand market trends and customer preferences better. We can gain valuable insights into what occurred thanks to the open data shared by the Malaysian government.
Today, we'll be exploring the top ten most popular car brands and models in Malaysia for the first half of 2024. So, let's dive right in.
Perodua Bezza: With 47,100 units sold, the Bezza is Malaysia's best-selling car in the first half of 2024. It was first launched in 2016 and updated in 2020. The car offers two engine options: a 67 hp/91 Nm 1.0L three-cylinder VVT-i engine and a 94 hp/121 Nm 1.3L four-cylinder engine. It comes in four variants: 1.0LG, 1.0L G Auto, 1.3L X, and AV, with prices ranging from RM 34,580 to RM 49,980.
Perodua Axia: In the first half of the year, 42,900 units of the Axia were sold. Recently awarded the Malaysia Good Design Award for its compact hatch design, it was launched in 2023. Built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, it runs on a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a Dual-Mode CVT. Prices for the Axia range from RM 40,000 to RM 49,500.
Perodua Myvi: In H1 2024, the Myvi saw sales of 34,688 units. It was last refreshed in 2022 and is offered in five variants: 1.3 G, 1.3 G with PSDA (featuring ASA safety technologies), 1.5 X, 1.5 H, and the top-of-the-line 1.5 AV, priced between RM45,700 and RM58,800. Recently, the X and H variants introduced a new Cranberry Red color option, replacing the previous Lava tone.
Proton Saga: Proton sold 34,035 units of the Saga in the first half of the year, making it Malaysia's fourth-most popular model. In May, the Saga achieved the milestone of two million units sold. Last updated in 2022, it still runs on a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 95 PS and 120 Nm of torque, unchanged mechanically.
Perodua Alza: From January to June 2024, 20,476 units of the Alza were sold, even after a recent recall for fixing the upper front shock absorber nuts. This seven-seater Perodua is equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, generating 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a D-CVT. The price of the Alza ranges from RM 62,500 to RM 75,500.
Perodua Ativa: Perodua sold 17,741 units of the Ativa in the first half of 2024. This SUV was introduced to Malaysia in 2021 and is available in four variants: X, H, AV, and Turbo CVT, priced between RM 61,500 and RM 72,000.
Honda City: Finally making its mark as a non-national car, the City sold 12,815 units. It was recently added to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) fleet of petrol vehicles. Just a few months ago, Honda Malaysia introduced the City hatchback facelift in the country, offering five variants: S, E, V, RS, and e:HEV RS hybrid.
Toyota Vios: Just behind the Honda City in sales, the Vios sold 12,513 units in the first half of 2024. It comes in two versions: the E model priced at RM 89,600 and the G model at RM 95,500. Powering the Vios is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, the 2NR-VE, which generates 106 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque.
Toyota Hilux: Toyota sold 11,540 units of the Hilux, placing it second to last in the top 10 list. The Hilux is the leading pickup truck in Malaysia in terms of sales. It is available in six variants, priced between RM 103,880 and RM 169,080 (excluding insurance).
Honda HR-V: The final model on our list is the Honda HR-V, which sold 10,803 units. It comes in four variants: S, Turbo E, Turbo V, and RS e:HEV hybrid, priced from RM 114,800 to RM 140,800.
Let's now look at the top 10 car brands in H1 2024 based on how many vehicles they registered. Here's the list:
