Don’t forget Najib is still a disgraced ‘jailbird’

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4, 2023: Online mediahit posted an article titled Do You Know That The Only Malaysian PM To Have Visited Palestine Was Najib Razak?

No News Is Bad News’ immediate response is “So what?”

Is the disgraced former tak tahu malu (know no shame) prime minister (PM)’s visit all that important to be featured?

Is his role as PM and his administration’s in the multi-billion-ringgit 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) not more earth-shattering and damaging to the rakyat dan negara (people and country)?

Malayisa’s national debt is now about RM1.5 trillion and the 1MDB plunder is no chicken feet. Also unfolding now are the unaccounted billions-of-ringgit “spent” by previous governments following the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic outbreak in 2019.

So, what was mediahit’s news sense or new sworthiness about in posting the article? Is it to hero-worship Najib and asking Malaysians to forget about Najib and his administration’s “mishandling” of the rakyat and country’s coffer?

And the talk about granting the Najib “jail bird” a pardon is simply obnoxious. Tell him to get the return of all the billions-of-ringgit to the Government, then perhaps we canb think of pardoning or forgiving him!

Do You Know That The Only Malaysian PM To Have Visited Palestine Was Najib Razak?

Najib was the second world leader to defy the 5-year blockade of the Gaza Strip in Palestine, by the Israel authorities

While I was doing some research for another article, I came across a piece about former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s historical visit to Palestine some 10 years ago.

Presumably it was one of the highlights of his political career as he had defied Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip to visit the Palestinian enclave, a move that had earned the ire of West Bank leaders, despite Najib’s pledge of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The then Malaysian premier was the second world leader in recent months at that time to defy the five-year blockade and accepted an invitation from Hamas, which Western states regard as a terrorist group.

Qatar’s emir, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, had made a brief visit to Gaza in October and promised $400 million in aid for infrastructure.

Najib and his wife Rosmah, who entered the Gaza strip on 22 Jan 2013 via the Rafah crossing from Egypt along with then Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and other officials, was met by Ismail Haniya, the Hamas prime minister.

Malaysian Solidarity For The People Of Palestine

Malaysia’s 6th Prime Minister later gave a brief press conference upon his arrival, pledging solidarity for the Palestinians and backed reconciliation efforts between Hamas and the rival Palestinian Fatah movement.

Speaking in Rafah shortly after his arrival, Najib said his visit was intended “to show solidarity and our support for the struggle of the Palestinian people.

“We may come from thousands of miles away … but we are one Ummah [Muslim nation] and we believe in the struggle of the Palestinian people,” he was reported to have said.

The visit was made possible in part by Egypt’s decision to loosen some of the restrictions on travel through its Rafah border crossing with Gaza.

The Malaysian premier later met with Hamas politicians, toured sites bombed by Israeli forces during the Operation Pillar of Defence conflict with rocket-firing terror groups in November, and visited a school funded by Malaysia.

For those who are not aware, the entourage had only eight hours to complete the visit, not even a single minute more.

According to a reliable source, it was such a hurried visit because they had to adhere to many specified conditions as arms were laid down during that eight hour period to ensure the safety of the world leader and his entourage.

Flipping through the pages of the coffee table book entitled Rosmah Mansor by Siti Rohayah Attan and Noraini Abdul Razak, it was written that the former First Lady’s visit to Gaza then was such a humbling experience.

“I saw for myself the destruction of Gaza and heard for myself the pleas of a mother who hugs her children every night as there was no certainty that they may wake up again tomorrow,” Rosmah was quoted to have said.

Having experienced that, Rosmah made a pledge to encourage Malaysians to help the Palestinians as much as they can.

In 2010, Rosmah became the Patron of the Gaza Humanitarian Aid Mission and in her role as the President of  Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers and Welfare Organisation (Bakti), she presented RM1 million to the Gaza fund.

In 2012, Najib had welcomed the United Nation’s decision to recognise Palestine as a non-member state.

“It provides Palestinians with the opportunity to join international treaties and agencies and we hope that all members of the UN respect today’s vote,” the then Prime Minister was quoted to have said.

“This landmark decision should not detract from the ultimate goal of ensuring that the Palestinian people have a land of their own. Malaysia calls on all parties to redouble their efforts towards a two-state solution, so that there is a durable and just peace in the region,” he added.

Violations Of Al Aqsa Mosque

In 2016, during a meeting with Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister, Riyad Al-Maliki, Najib pointed out that Malaysia rejects Israeli policies and violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy city of Jerusalem.

Al-Maliki is reported to have briefed the Malaysian prime minister about the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel’s ongoing violations of international laws and conventions.

He explained, “The Israeli government’s insistence on continuing its settlement policy and its rejection of calls from the international community to stop building settlements destroys the possibility of achieving a two-state solution.”

The foreign minister expressed to Prime Minister Abdul Razak the appreciation of the Palestinian government and its people for his country’s support. In 2017, just before Najib’s Barisan Nasional party lost in the 14th General Elections a year later, he had  vowed to use every means to protest against then U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. – mediahit
