Umno leaders must really change their spots for a progressive, prosperous Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8, 2023: Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh wants DAP to apologise for all accusations levelled at them when the two parties were political rivals.

He said the apology was necessary if DAP wanted to win the support of the Malays and Umno supporters in the upcoming state elections.

Then, what about all those past accusations that Umno had also hurled at the DAP and Chinese-ethic Malaysians?

Among them, calling Malaysian Chinese to “balik Tong San” (go back to China), labelling Chinese as communists when Malays were also communists, etc.

Akmal is not thinking out of the box to really treasure national unity or change his political agenda for a Malaysian Malaysia.

He is just wasting time and contributing nothing to progress Malaysia, like helping to come up with ideas on how to help Malaysians and Malaysia out of the RM1.5 trillion national debt.

It looks like Akmal is still only dishing out the past garbage to suit his political agenda, not that of a progressive Malaysia for socio-economic development.

Does he not realise what he is saying is a double-edge sword that hurts both ways, giving fodder to the Opposition that is out to destroy national unity for political power?

We guess Akmal is a pea brain unable to fathom the needs of Malaysians for a progressive future.

Is it any wonder, with so-called leaders like Akmal, the Ringgit is fast becoming a banana currency?

Leaders in Anwar Ibrahim’s Unity Government (UG) should wake up to reality, not ape the racial and religious bigots in the Taliban-like PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) for political points.

The UG leaders should forget the past, embrace a strong political will to win the hearts of more Malaysians - including the Malays - to treasure national unity and harmony for Malaysia to return to become again the Tiger Economy of Asia.

Without such a strong political will to change and trigger change, Malaysia’s socio-economic aspiration to return to the hey days is but an elusive dream.

The following was what Akmal was reported to have said at the Umno Youth Assembly:

Apologise to win Umno, Malay support, youth chief tells DAP

Akmal Saleh says if the party could apologise to GPS before the formation of the unity government, it can also do it now.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth has demanded an open apology from DAP for accusations levelled at them when the two parties were political rivals.

Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh said the apology was necessary if DAP wanted to win the support of the Malays and Umno supporters in the upcoming state elections.

“If they can apologise to Gabungan Parti Sarawak, why not to us?,” he said, referring to the ruling coalition in the East Malaysian state.

Last year, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook publicly apologised to GPS leaders during a meeting before the formation of the unity government.

Loke had visited Sarawak to meet GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Akmal, who is also the Merlimau assemblyman, said DAP must also prove that it was not anti-Malay or anti-Islam, a label which it had been branded with in the past.

He said there were boundaries that needed to be respected even though both parties were among the 19 component parties in the unity government.

“We share administrative space, but not ideologies. We transcend party politics while upholding the principles of our struggle. If anyone dares to cross the line, Umno Youth will be the first to respond and take action,” he said.
