Umno: It’s alright for Malaysians to give ‘constructive criticisms’

KUALA LUMPUR, June 22, 2023: Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki says Putrajaya must pay attention and consider all forms of feedback, even negative ones.

Putrajaya must pay attention and consider all forms of feedback, even negative ones.

“It’s good for people to be outspoken. I hope all Malaysians will be outspoken. We must all give constructive criticism and the Government must listen,” he added.

No News Is Bad News opines that “that is well and good. Malaysians never thought an Umno leader/official would say such things”.

Let’s monitor whether Umno and its leaders will respond the same when criticised by others.

It must be noted that the beef would, however, be the definition of “constructive criticism”.

Are uttering racial and religious bigotry “constructive criticism” and the culprits are not only many in the Opposition but also in Umno.

So, where is the action to stop such Taliban-like critics that are underminining and destabilising national unity and harmony in mulit-racial Malaysia.

Go ahead, criticise the govt, Umno leader tells Malaysians

Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had previously taken Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi to task for his criticism of economy minister Rafizi Ramli.

KUALA LUMPUR: Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has called for Malaysians to offer constructive criticism of Putrajaya, saying there was nothing wrong in speaking out against the government.

The Umno secretary-general said the people deserved to be given the best public service, which meant Putrajaya needed to pay attention and consider all forms of feedback, even negative ones.

“It’s good for people to be outspoken. I hope all Malaysians will be outspoken. We must all give constructive criticism and the government must listen,” Asyraf said at a press conference at the Mara headquarters here.

The Mara chairman was responding to criticism of the unity government by Umno veteran Shahrir Samad and Supreme Council member Isham Jalil.

Shahrir had accused the Anwar Ibrahim administration of being inefficient in managing the country, while Isham had urged Putrajaya to take immediate action to mitigate the decline of the ringgit.

Earlier this month, Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi trained his guns on economy minister Rafizi Ramli over his performance as economy minister.

At the time, Asyraf reminded the Rengit assemblyman that his criticism was akin to “shooting ourselves in the foot” with Umno being part of the Pakatan Harapan-led unity government.

But Puad stood firm, saying he had the right to criticise ministers who did not perform in the interest of strengthening the government.
