Madani Unity Government ready to strengthen laws to fight racial hatred?

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1, 2024: Malaysia celebrated its 67th Merdeka (Independence) yesterday with a much fanfare national parade.

It was business as usual with the Madani Unity Government promoting national unity and harmony.

That was it. Just a day of rhetoric display and it’s back to business as usual with the racial and religious bigots still free to threaten national unity and harmony or political mileage.

Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said a virtal video promoting Malacca tourism, allegedly focusing on elements of a single ethnicity, should not be made an issue.

“A check by the ministry found that the video was produced by a television station in China to promote Malacca tourism to the people of the republic, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations,” he added.

Padan muka (slap in the face) to the “jealous” racial and religious bigots! Why don’t you just produce your on video promotion?

And, view the above video clip to see how Malaysia is under international scrutiny in racial and religious bigotry.

Enough of one-day (Merdeka Day) propaganda. Act to steer Malaysia socio-economic growth in the right direction.

And Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the Government was prepared to strengthen laws to tackle racial hatred in the country.

Really? Why don’t you start by prosecuting the racist and religious bigoted Umno youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh? By the way, he was made a “Datuk” by the Malacca government last week!

Really, cakap tak serupa bikin (talk but different action)!

Lawyer and social activist Siti Kasim said: "I recently saw a TikTok video where he (Akmal) was seen calling the Malays to be ready. He was seen sharpening a parang ... this is something the police must act on.

"It is like he is instigating the Malays to create problems. Islam never teaches us all this," said Siti.

A senator has asked why Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has yet to be investigated for sedition after posting a picture of himself holding a sword on Facebook. Akmal had posted the picture, taken during a recent trip to Japan, on March 14. The picture was captioned: “No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling.”

Enough of NATO (No Action Talk Only) Mr PM! Malaysians are tired of NATO!

KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged all parties to refrain from creating issues on social media that could lead to misunderstandings and harm racial unity and harmony in the country.

Commenting on the criticism of a viral video promoting Melaka tourism, which was alleged to focus on elements of a single ethnicity, he said it should not be made an issue

Tiong said a check by the ministry found that the video was produced by a television station in China to promote Melaka tourism to the people of the republic, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

"Let's not create unnecessary issues. As Malaysians, we must learn to preserve harmony and unity, as these are the most important aspects for our country.

"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has also worked hard (to maintain harmony), so he hopes that we can unite regardless of race or religion," he told reporters after welcoming the arrival of about 200 Chinese tourists under Beijing Jingdong Century Trading Co Ltd (JD.COM) to Malaysia here on Saturday (Aug 31) night.

Tiong said the group of tourists will explore the country from today until Sept 5. - Bernama

PUTRAJAYA: The government is prepared to strengthen laws to tackle racial hatred in the country.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it is the government's responsibility to protect the nation from those who seek to incite hatred, hostility, and violence between different communities.

Anwar warned that the authorities would act against those seeking to cause disharmony among the people.

He said he did not care if international media or foreign nations disagreed with the government's stance.

"Our duty is to protect our beloved Malaysia," Anwar said in his National Day address.

"If it (laws) is insufficient, we will amend and strengthen our laws, and act to ensure this country remains safe."

He said the government aims to take action to elevate the country as a leading nation in the region and the world.

He said the spirit of unity is crucial and must not be underestimated.

As the next generation poised to shape the direction of the country,

Anwar reminded them to learn, seek enlightenment and avoid being used for racial or religious purposes by those seeking power and influence.

"Seek the truth, uphold justice, safeguard the nation, and elevate the country's status.

This is the task of the younger generation to ensure the safety of the nation and its people.

"I hope our children understand this well through social media, new (modern) disciplines and education, but never forget our foundation that the struggle that has cost lives and great sacrifices is rooted in history," he said.

Anwar said the younger generation should also recognise the thousands of the country's nationalist contributions.

"We must consider the present, but history shows that from all races, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Melanaus, Kadazans, Dusuns, Bajaus—all ethnic groups played a role.

"That's why I emphasise, (it is necessary) to break the walls that disturb and prevent our success and build new strength," he said.

Also present were Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Chief Secretary to the Government, Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
