BANGI: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Wong Siew Ki has emerged as the winner in the Balakong by-election after securing 22,508 votes. Her opponent, Tan Chee Teong from MCA, garnered a mere 3,975 votes. This was the first time the PH and MCA logos were used in a by-election … for more, go to https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2018/09/409719/phs-wong-siew-ki-wins-balakong-election

MCA is politically ‘dead man walking’

MCA’s heavy defeat in the Balakong by-election clearly confirms the Chinese political party is no more relevant to ethnic Chinese Malaysians and Malaysians in general.

And, based on MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong’s response to the defeat, it also confirms that MCA and its national leaders are unable to change or think out of the box for their future.

The Star Online’s report titled Wee sees positives for MCA despite Balakong by-election defeat exposes how the party and its leaders are living in political denial.

And they are set to remain politically irrelevant to Malaysians for a very, very long time if they continue with business as usual, happy with their lap dog role to Umno and even PAS.

Online news portal malaysiakini had this in its report: While MCA managed to retain its deposit today - unlike on May 9 …

So to the MCA, and perhaps also other Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, general elections and by-elections have boiled down to whether they can retain their deposits, not about winning.

The MCA is so pathetic, one wonders whether to laugh or cry for them!

Ohh! Wee is so proud that MCA polled a measly 3,975 votes in a state constituency that had a total of 62,219 registered voters featuring 61% Chinese.

And, the voter turnout for the by-election was an electoral historic low of 43%.

Wee is now shamelessly trumpeting that support for MCA has improved from 7.3% in the May 9 14th General Election (GE14) just four months ago to 12.6%.

Just who are you trying to kid, Mr Cry Baby Wee, with percentages?

Voter turnout was only 43% while it was 88.2% in GE14. That’s the reality of percentages for Wee and MCA!

Wee and MCA can continue to live in political denial and shiok sendiri (self gratification) but the bare fact and reality is that it could muster only 3,975 ballots compared with DAP’s 22,508 votes.

So, Wee and MCA, please continue to live in political denial and feeling proud that Malaysians’ support for MCA is growing.

That is the only way to ensure that MCA remains politically “dead” to Malaysians.

This was what The Star (MCA’s mouthpiece) reported:

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says Chinese support for MCA increased to 12.6% in Balakong compared to just 7.3% in GE14 just four months ago.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (Sept 8) night, the party deputy president said about 61% of the 62,219 voters in the state seat are Chinese.

In the by-election on Saturday (Sept 8), Pakatan Harapan's DAP candidate Wong Siew Ki garnered 22,508 votes against 3,975 for MCA's Tan Chee Teong, a 18,533-vote majority.

He also noted that unlike GE14, the MCA candidate obtained at least 12.5% of the vote and retained his deposit.

He said the statistics on Chinese support were based on GE14 results and the by-election results in seven Chinese majority areas in Balakong.

"The seven polling districts (pusat daerah mengundi) in the state constituency have more than 85% Chinese voters," he said.

Dr Wee also noted that voter turnout plunged from 88% in GE14 to 43% for the by-election, noting that DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang had targeted a turnout of over 80%.

"This is a clear message from voters that they are fed-up of all the politicking going on since GE14.

"Does it not show that the people are tired of the Pakatan government's constant U-turns and unfulfilled manifesto pledges?" he said in his post.

While MCA's performance was better this round, Dr Wee pointed out that there was much room for improvement and that a post mortem on the by-election would be conducted.

Dr Wee also thanked all voters who supported MCA and extended his congratulations to Wong on her victory.

The by-election was triggered by the death of its assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in an accident on July 20.

SHAH ALAM - Malaysia’s ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) alliance retained both seats in two simultaneous by-elections in Selangor on Saturday (Sept 8). The PH candidate from member-party, the Democratic Action Party (DAP), retained the Balakong state-assembly ward. A candidate from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), another PH member, held onto the Seri Setia constituency. The majority polled by both candidates dropped sharply as expected due to the low voter turnout. The turnout was 43 per cent in Balakong and 44 per cent in Sei Setia. These were lower than the 49.8 per cent turnout in the Sungai Kandis by-election in Selangor last month, the first special polls to be held since the May general election. PH retained that seat to, defeating a rival from Umno … for more, go to https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/turnout-low-in-ongoing-twin-selangor-by-elections-results-out-this-evening
