IT’S been almost two years since Barisan Nasional (BN) wrested the Perak government from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) but does anyone still care to remember? And how would we choose to remember it?
If, as the saying goes, “History is written by the victors”, then the history of the Perak takeover would probably go like this: The three independents (not frogs) genuinely lost faith in their parties and conscience dictated that they become BN allies. The Sultan rightly decided that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin had lost the confidence of the assembly’s majority. He was also empowered under the Perak constitution to “deem” the Menteri Besar (MB) seat vacant when Nizar did not resign as instructed and appoint Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir to fill it. Disputes surrounding the hasty dispatching of Nizar and equally hasty appointment of Zambry were fairly decided by an impartial court in accordance with the rule of law … for more, go to http://www.thenutgraph.com/remembering-the-perak-crisis/
Padan Muka Umno and BN!
There are two issues that Umno and its leaders are harping on. They are:
> That assemblymen and MPs who leave Umno must vacate their seat and let the voters elect their new representatives; and
> That the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government refrain from using the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to intimidate and punish Umnno and Barisan Nasional (BN) politicians.
In response, No News Is Bad News has two idioms for Umno and BN:
> Why don’t you look at yourself in the mirror first!; and
> So, you are having a taste of your own medicine, aren’t you?
On Umno assemblymen MPs quitting and vacating their seat, who the hell introduced such a political culture in the first place?
Remember what happened to the Perak Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state government after the 12th General Election (GE14)? Padan muka Umno!
So, the Umno-led BN federal government had been an angel and saint for 60 years! It did not use the MACC on Opposition politicians, like DAP’s Lim Guan Eng, Warisan’s Shafie Apdal and others.
It sure looks like that talk about reforming Umno to make it a relevant Opposition political party looks more like just cheap and idle talk.
Umno and its politicians are still going about with “business as usual” without using their head to raise relevant socio-economic issues.
They are proving to be political “zombies” unable to think out of the box to raise issues that matters to the rakyat dan negara (people and country).
Issues that positively help lift Malaysia’s socio-economic progress and to keep the PH federal government in check.

"Hisham: I have no reason to leave Umno

Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein says the Umno leadership should set a clear direction for all members.
KUALA LUMPUR: Hishammuddin Hussein, the MP for Sembrong, Johor, today dismissed media reports that he was one of the Umno MPs who would be resigning from the party.
“Do not believe the speculation out there. I have no reason to leave the party.
“However, I feel that the leadership should set a clear direction for all of us Umno members,” he told Bernama.
Hishammuddin was responding to media reports that he would be leaving Umno. The speculation arose following his meeting with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for about two hours yesterday in Putrajaya.
The former Umno vice-president said he had met Mahathir to find out the prime minister’s plans for the people and nation.
Over the last two days, two Umno MPs have resigned from the party. Mustapa Mohamed, the MP for Jeli, Kelantan, quit yesterday and Anifah Aman, the MP for Kimanis, Sabah, did so today.
Several other Umno leaders also denied leaving the party.
Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said he would continue to remain in Umno and lead the administration of the state under the Barisan Nasional leadership.
“If there are rumours that I am quitting Umno, these are wild and baseless allegations,” he said after handing over donations to storm victims at Taman Kemajuan, in Kangar, today.
Commenting on the move by Mustapa and Anifah to leave the party, Azlan said their decisions should be respected as both leaders must have their reasons for doing so.
“I am confident that we will be able to revive Umno to serve the people,” he said.
Former Perlis Umno liaison committee chairman Shahidan Kassim said there was no need for him to leave the party but he did not deny that more MPs would resign from the party.
“To those who have quit the party, I wish them all the best. To those intending to leave. Just go. There is no need to comment on Umno.”
The Arau MP added those resigning from the party should step down as MPs as the people had voted them because they had contested under the Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) banner. - FMT
In rally for Najib, loyalists claim MACC used as Dr M’s revenge tool

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 19 — A group of Umno members led by Datuk Lokman Noor Adam tonight cried foul over the arrest of the party’s former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Umno Supreme Council member said that Najib’s allegedly unlawful arrest was proof that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is being used as a tool for revenge by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Just yesterday Attorney-General Tommy Thomas told a news outlet that he still have not received the investigation papers on the RM2.6 billion donation,” he said in front of the MACC headquarters here.
“So it does not make sense that Najib is being arrested and charged the following day.
“Therefore, it is clear that Tun M has instructed the MACC chief to conduct this arrest. They are being used as his revenge tool,” he added.
Lokman also dubbed the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 — also known as Amla — which Najib is being charged under, as Malaysia’s new Internal Security Act (ISA) that was used against dissidents.
“Yes we can say that Amla is the new ISA because apparently it can be used by Dr M to charge just about anyone without any proof.
“Under Amla, those accused are immediately guilty until proven innocence. In this case, Najib needs to prove that the money came from a ‘halal’ source,” he said.
Slightly after 9pm, some 50 of them showed up at the MACC headquarters in Precinct 7 where Najib is currently being detained.
The group ended their two-hour protest by singing ‘Allah selamatkan Najib Razak’ (‘God save Najib Razak’).
Lokman said the group will also submit a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on September 26 to call for an intervention by the Conference of Malay Rulers.
“We want to protect the institution of Malay rulers and we want them to intervene and ensure that Amla will not be misused by Mahathir’s regime,” he said.
Najib was arrested by the anti-graft body at 4.13pm today and will be detained overnight here, before leaving straight to Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur at 8am tomorrow.
In a statement earlier, MACC has confirmed that Najib is being probed over a controversial RM2.6 billion donation banked into his account, allegedly from a Saudi Arabian royal in 2014.
The Pekan MP is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 3pm tomorrow.
He faces several charges under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 after prosecution permission is obtained from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, MACC said. - Malay Mail

PUTRAJAYA: A group of supporters of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak gathered outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here Wednesday (Sept 19) evening to protest his arrest.
The group gathered in the rain around 9pm to protest the arrest, claiming that it was an abuse of power against the former prime minister.
The group was led by Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam who said that the arrest was timed late in the afternoon to deny Najib’s lawyers a chance to post bail.
“If they are going to charge him tomorrow afternoon, they could have picked him up tomorrow morning.
“There is no need to make him spend the night behind bars and it is a clear abuse of power,” he said to reporters at the rally.
He urged the Attorney-General to provide evidence against Najib instead of merely charging him.
“Tomorrow will be the eighth charge against Najib and they have yet to provide any evidence so far,” he said.
He added that the group would gather outside the court on Thursday (Sept 20) to show their support to the embattled politician when he is being charged.
Several NGOs including Civil and Human Rights Movement Malaysia (Charm) were also present at the rally.
Charm president, Daniel Goh said this treatment of Najib by the MACC was a gross violation of human rights.
“We urged the government of today to treat everyone fairly,” he said.
The crowd dispersed peacefully around 10.30pm.
Najib will be brought to court to face several charges under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 3pm on Thursday. - The Star Online

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno Youth has called on Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to vacate the Jeli parliamentary and Air Lanas state seats, which he holds.
State Umno Youth chief Noor Hariri Mohamed Noor said Mustapa should do the right thing by vacating both seats, which he had won under the Barisan Nasional ticket.
“Now that he has quit Umno, he should also vacate the parliamentary and state seats,” Noor Hariri said in response to Mustapa’s decision on Tuesday to leave Umno after 40 years as a member.
He claimed that Mustapa won the seats due to the support of Umno loyalists who had remained true to the party’s struggle.
“Leaders of his calibre should remain in Umno to help restore public confidence in the party,” Noor Hariri said.
State Umno deputy chief Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh said it was unfortunate that Umno had lost a leader of Mustapa’s calibre.
“This is a great test for us. Although we are disappointed, we have to accept it with an open heart,” he said yesterday.
He said the decision came as a surprise as Mustapa did not show any indication that he would quit Umno.
“Even during our discussions and chats, the resignation issue did not crop up,” Mohamad Fatmi said.
In a statement, Mustapa said he decided to leave as Umno’s current direction was no longer in line with his political principles.
However, Mohamad Fatmi said: “Umno can change its direction, but we should never change the party.
“No matter what excuse is given (to justify his decision to quit Umno), we should soldier on because Umno is still the best platform for us to continue pursuing our struggles in the interest of the nation,” he said.
A party leader, who declined to be named, took a jibe at Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for sidelining Mustapa under the pretext of “rejuvenating the party”.
The leader said Dr Ahmad Zahid should have not dropped Mustapa from his state liaison chief’s post.
“Mustapa had served the state and nation well. Why drop him?” asked the leader.
Dr Ahmad Zahid appointed Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub as the new Kelantan Umno liaison chief, replacing Mustapa after the recent party polls.
Umno Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said leaders may come and go, but the party would remain true to its noble struggles. - The Star Online"
