Rafizi questions Azmin’s leadership commitment in PKR

No one in PKR or Pakatan Harapan (PH) can deny Rafizi “Invoke” Ramli’s tireless and sterling role in helping PKR and PH to topple the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) in the May 9 14th General Election (GE14).

This, Rafizi did and achieved success against all odds amid the BN government’s mammoth onslaught to break his will and morale, and to bring him down to his knees, pre-GE14.

Now Rafizi is locked in another mammoth political hurdle - to unseat PKR deputy president Azmin Ali in the coming party elections.

It is no doubt a herculean task for Rafizi because Azmin is the incumbent PKR deputy president, a former Selangor Mentri Besar (MB/Chief Minister) and now Economic Minister.

However, Rafizi has proven to be no political push over. He’s as determined as ever, again against all odds, to derail Azmin’s meteoric rise in Malaysian politics.

In the run-up to PKR’s clash of the titans, Rafizi has unleashed one of the yet most potent political attack point.

He accused Azmin as having contributed nothing financially to PKR’s electoral battle campaign needs in GE14, although he was the then Selangor MB.

Anwar’s family was then forced to mortgage their Bukit Segambut house for a RM4 million bank loan. Anwar and his family are still servicing the loan.
PKR members must now decide which of these two is more committed to PKR's cause

KUANTAN: PKR deputy president hopeful Rafizi Ramli continued to attack his opponent Datuk Seri Azmin Ali by accusing the latter of failing to raise funds for the party’s GE14 campaign.

In his speech in front of Pahang PKR members, Rafizi took potshots at Azmin without naming him, claiming that the former Selangor mentri besar did not use his influence to raise funds for the general election campaign.

He said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had to take out a mortgage on their house to help pay for the deposits of PKR candidates.

“We set up Invoke to get direct help from the people but the funds were only channelled to candidates who had probability of winning. For those seats that couldn’t be won, the party had to shoulder the campaign funds.

“Anwar and Kak Wan ended up having to mortgage their house in Bukit Segambut to take out a RM4mil bank loan. It’s not even settled yet,” said Rafizi.

“The move to return Anwar to Parliament at this time is necessary to avoid a power vacuum scenario.”

He said the power transition from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Anwar was now known to the world and it would be responsible to ensure it happens in an orderly manner.

“More so since Dr Mahathir is already 93 years old. We cannot have a situation where there is a power vacuum if something were to happen to Dr Mahathir due to Anwar not being in Parliament.

“This kind of uncertainty and its cost to the people and country will be immense,” Rafizi said after attending a #Reformasi20Tahun event on Sunday night.

He said the party had to balance the people’s mood and the need for Anwar to be in Parliament at this time in view of the low turnout in the three recent by-elections.

“When we make comparisons, the benefits of this move outweigh the risks and cost,” said Rafizi.

Commenting on a related matter, Rafizi said his party colleague Tian Chua might have felt left out after not being roped in for this important decision.

Rafizi, a vice-president gunning for the PKR deputy president post in the upcoming party polls, said the plan was discussed among Anwar and several members of the party leadership.

“Tian Chua may have felt awkward because he was not involved in the process. Usually, only a few of us are involved,” he said.

Tian Chua, also a PKR vice-president, had lambasted Rafizi for announcing that a parliamentary seat would be vacated to be contested by Anwar, claiming that the matter was never discussed among the leadership.

Tian Chua claimed no one knew of the move and Rafizi’s actions had forced party president Dr Wan Azizah to confirm the matter.

Rafizi said he would not have announced something that involved Anwar and the party president without getting their approval first.

Asked whether this meant he was in Anwar’s inner circle and had the incoming president’s favour, Rafizi deflected, saying that it was difficult for him to comment on his friendship with Anwar.

“That’s for the public and the members to judge. To me, the track record speaks for itself.

“For the last seven or eight years, we were the ones who spent more time campaigning and building the party on the ground.

“It’s only natural for Anwar to spend more time with people who have access to the ground because Azmin and some other people spend more time just in Selangor,” said Rafizi. - The Star Online

A THANK YOU NOTE (FROM RAFIZI RAMLI TO THE BIG INVOKE FAMILY)
MAY 15, 2018
Dear friends
It has been exactly one week since the historic win in GE14. I took this long to write because understandably there were urgent matters to attend to in the immediate aftermath. Now that the dust is slowly settling down, I can turn to say thank you to all the volunteers and Malaysians who had participated, contributed, followed and encouraged the growth of INVOKE Malaysia to become the largest election volunteer organisation of its kind in South East Asia.
NUMBERS
On 9th of May 2017, INVOKE has 40,949 volunteers all over the country. Out of these, 25,915 volunteers came forward to offer themselves as polling and counting agents (PACAs) all over the country. While our record only tracked the 5,844 PACAs who submitted their particulars through our online system, we believe many others actually went directly to candidates and served as PACAs. Looking back, INVOKE spent more than a year to train thousands of PACAs all over the country to mitigate the fear of electoral fraud that could have prevented many Malaysians from turning up to vote. As of last week, INVOKE volunteers clocked 25,612 manhours of campaigning since we first tracked the manhours (in March 2017). The breakdown of the key campaigning manhours: 7,861 manhours of PACA training; 7,689 manhours of phone-bank (calling identified fence-sitters to persuade them to vote PH) and 4,856 manhours of canvassing door-to-door for support … for more, go to https://rafiziramli.com/category/invoke/
