Malaysia declare war with the US? Are you nuts?

Malaysia declare war with the US? Are you nuts?
In the past 48 hours, many ridiculous statements and positions have been made public in Malaysia.

It started with the Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron claiming that the United States (US) is planning to “kill""the Malays after doing the same with Iraqis in the past.

Mind you, he is an elected lawmaker and a Chief Minister, not any Tom, Dick or Harry.

Then you have an Opposition lawmaker Segambut Member of Parliament (MP) Lim Lip Eng from the DAP saying if the chief minister’s allegation is true, then the federal government should recall the US ambassador to Malaysia and declare war on the superpower.
Of course it’s not true. And is Lim really serious about declaring war with the US?

Come on Lim, don’t waste your and the rakyat (people)’s time. You are elected to provide more intelligent service for the rakyat than this.

If Idris wants to be an ass, you don’t have to be one, do you?

And Singapore’s Channel News Asia has reported that Malaysia Attorney-General’s Chambers has submitted an appeal against dancer Bilqis Hijjas who was acquitted of insulting behaviour by dropping yellow balloons during an official event attended by Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife in a mall in August 2015.

A notice of the appeal, which was accepted by the court registrar on July 14, 2016, was sent by post to Bilqis who received it on Aug 5, 2016.

The letter stated that the prosecutors were “not satisfied” with the judgment to free Bilqis by Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail on July 1, 2016.

When contacted, Bilqis said she was disheartened by the AG’s decision of wanting to pursue the case despite being acquitted.

“I'm very disappointed that the matter is continuing, as I believe the judge in the first trial provided a very clear and comprehensive ruling.

“To me, this appeal seems like a nuisance suit, and a continuing waste of public resource, with very little hope of public gain,” she told Malay Mail Online.

The 37-year-old added that she had no other details on the matter but has forwarded the letter to her lawyer Eric Paulsen.

Charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 last September 23, Bilqis faces a maximum RM100 fine over alleged “insulting behaviour” with the purported purpose of inciting anger that may cause a disturbance of peace.

The charge did not specify who was alleged to have been insulted.

In the incident on Aug 31, 2015, at about 3.15pm at Pavilion Kuala Lumur, several yellow balloons printed with the words “Free media”, “Democracy” and “Justice” were said to have been released from the mall’s fifth floor to the second floor where the Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival’s opening ceremony was held.

During the trial, several of the prosecution’s witnesses had associated the yellow colour of the balloons to the two-day Bersih 4 rally on Aug 29 and Aug 30, 2015, by electoral reform group Bersih 2.0, where protesters had sought the prime minister’s removal.

The AG sure is getting his prosecution priority right. Appealing on a minor offence charge that carries a RM100 fine!

But, the AG has declared no crime committed and closed the 1Malaysia Development (1MDB) case.

And what is the 1MDB case about?

US Attorney-General Loretta E. Lynch said 1MDB was created by the government of Malaysia to promote economic development in Malaysia through global partnerships and foreign direct investment, and its funds were intended to be used for improving the well-being of the Malaysian people.

“Instead, as detailed in the complaints, 1MDB officials and their associates allegedly misappropriated more than US$3 billion (RM12 billion),” she added.

And Singapore’s Channel News Asia has reported that a member of Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak’s party is seeking a judicial review on the government’s decision to continue to classify a national audit report into controversial state investment firm 1MDB as a national secret.

Zahid Md Arip, who is also the “spiritual adviser” of Gerakan Under Najib (Remove Najib Movement) filed the application for leave for a judicial review on Aug 5, 2016, accompanied by more than 30 supporters.

“In my experience, there has never been a report by the Auditor-General classified under the Official Secrets Act,” he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

“If it can’t be revealed to the people, what is that they are trying to hide? That’s our question and it’s the hope of all Malaysians that the government is transparent in this matter,” Zahid added.

Malaysia had decided to classify a report by the Auditor-General (AG) on 1MDB earlier this year, saying it would be declassified after a bipartisan Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) had completed its final report into the fund.

However, the report remains classified despite PAC releasing its final report in April.

The PAC had, however, recommended criminal investigations be opened into former 1MDB CEO Shahrol Halmi, based on its own investigation and the audit report from the AG.

1MDB and the head of its now dissolved advisory board, PM Najib, has been under public scrutiny for more than a year now after allegations of millions of dollars were misappropriated from the fund.

PM Najib was cleared of any wrongdoing by Malaysia’s Attorney-General Apandi Ali after being accused of receiving around US$681 million in his personal bank accounts, channelled through entities linked to 1MDB.

The AG said the funds were a donation from the Saudi royal family. And no, even Najib’s cabinet members are singing a different song, saying the monies are donations by Umno supporters!

The United States Department of Justice has now filed civil suits seeking to seize more than a billion dollars worth of assets, allegedly obtained from funds siphoned from 1MDB.

Shouldn’t Malaysia be grateful to the US for trying to return the colossal amount of money, allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB, to the rakyat (people) and country?
