Muhyiddin replaces Anwar as the new Malaysian Opposition leader?

Muhyiddin replaces Anwar as the new Malaysian Opposition leader?
The audio-video clip showing former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin directly and clearly accusing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak as the thief who stole billions of ringgit from the so called national sovereign fund are both shocking and surprising, to say the least.

It is not only risky and daring because the 1MDB Najib is still Malaysia's sitting prime minister.

Even the United States (US) Department of Justice (DoJ), despite having documentary evidence on the 1MDB-linked money laundering trail, has held back from identifying Najib as the Malaysian Official 1 (MO1).

On this count, Malaysians are now kept waiting in bated breath what will unfold next in the weeks or months to come.

Will the pro-Najib police dare arrest Muhyiddin which will make the latter an immediate political martyr of sorts.

Surely the Dr Mahathir Mohamad-backed Muhyiddin must have considered his safety and freedom before making such a daring accusation against his former boss.

However, Muhyiddin is likely to have plenty of evidence in his hand to back his "super brave" accusations calling Najib a thief.

As the former deputy prime minister who was later sacked from Umno, Muhyiddin surely must have plenty of skeletons in the closet to expose Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).

And that must surely be food for thought for 1MDB Najib to think and consider seriously before making a move on Muhyiddin who is the president of the yet to be approved Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), founded by Mahathir who ruled Malaysia for 22 years as Umno president and prime minister.

Malaysians and Malaysia are in a political scene where a former prime minister and a deputy prime minister, who was only sacked a year ago, who are in positions possessing plenty of "secrets" on Umno and the BN federal government.

It sure looks like there is no more turning back to Umno for both Mahathir and Muhyiddin and it is an an "all out political war" until only one side is standing.

What is surprising is Muhyiddin's timing to make such an explosive accusation and it is not even GE14 yet.

Common sense dictates that the 2Ms (Mahathir-Muhyiddin) are losing no time to show Malaysians that they mean business and are dead serious in wanting to unseat Najib as prime minister. And that means toppling Umno and BN in the next general election or GE14 which is only due in March 2018.

The 2Ms know that they are racing and fighting against time to win over the hearts and minds of Malaysians for recognition and political support for Bersatu.

The only way to do that is to be clear and consistent in their words and deeds. They don't have the luxury of beating around the bush and neither can they be seen harbouring any nostalgic feelings for Umno.

Clearly, the 2Ms are not only battling to win over the Malaysian electorate, perhaps also the leaders of the Pakatan Harapan coalition comprising of DAP, PKR and Amanah, as well.

Overnight, with just a speech, Muhyiddin has shown to be the only Opposition political party leader with the courage to call Najib a thief.

Who in Pakatan had the courage to make such a direct and clear accusation before this?

On that count, Pakatan leaders are all being forced to sit down to discuss seriously whether they have to make a decision to work with Bersatu, and perhaps even accept the 2Ms to take the lead in GE14.

Pakatan leaders may have no choice but to make a decision to work with the 2Ms wholeheartedly for Malaysians and Malaysia, lest they end up being accused of only serving their own selfish political agenda.

And time may not even be working for them all as Najib, as the incumbent prime minister, has the power to call for a general election or GE14 anytime he chooses.

Surely you can expect Malaysians to start flocking in droves to political ceramah (rallies) featuring Muhyiddin, just as they did when Anwar was free to roam all over Malaysia.

Has Muhyiddin replaced Anwar as the new Opposition icon?
