What is Madani Unity Government really reforming?
A poem for PMX to wake up to political reality on the ground
KUALA LUMPUR, March 14, 2025: No News Is Bad News reproduces below a poem, believed to be written by a Malay, that is being circulated on WhatsApp.
It is akin to a wake-up call for Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim to wake up to the political reality on the ground after about three years as the country’s CEO.
The poem is self explanatory:
*I am ashamed of myself too for working so hard for so very long to bring reform in Malaysia and this is what we get ......*
1. There once was a leader so grand,
With “justice for all” as his stand,
But when VIPs fell,
He rang the soft bell,
And let them all walk away on demand.
2. They promised to clean up the mess,
They swore they’d do more, never less,
Yet crooks walk away,
With a wink and a sway,
While the rakyat just sigh in distress.
3. The courts are always noble and proud,
But whispers of deals are quite loud,
For the common man, bars are tight,
For the cronies, rules are light,
Justice now comes with a shroud.
4. A trial begins, but oh wait!
The verdict is now up for debate,
The law takes a rest,
For those who are blessed,
While the people just swallow their fate.
5. They preached about morals and grace,
Then let crooks just vanish, no trace,
With justice undone,
They call it "reform,"
While grinning right into our face.
6. The laws are as firm as a wall,
But some never fear them at all,
For those with titles and gold,
The rules can be rolled,
And justice often just takes a long stroll.
7. We have a system supposedly fair, and refined,
Yet somehow, the crooks stay unlined,
The script’s are well rehearsed,
The rakyat always comes first—
At least, till the deals are all signed.
8. A scandal erupts, there's a cheer,
“We’ll clean up!” they say loud and clear,
But wait just a while,
And watch with a smile,
As justice just fades, and the accused disappear!
9. The promises rolled off their tongues,
Of truth, where integrity clung,
Yet verdicts get blurred,
With one magic word,
And justice is often left unsung.
10. The Rakyat still waits for the day,
When justice won’t waltz away,
But power, it seems,
Can silence such dreams,
As long as the price they can pay.
11. I suppose a harassed leader must balance with care,
As each faction demands its share,
A promise or two,
Might not follow through,
But power is a game that is never fair.
12. The choice wasn’t black, wasn’t white,
No heroes appeared in the night,
So here we remain,
With more of the same,
Just praying and hoping they’ll get some things right.
13. The Parties, they sat at the table, uneasy,
Their handshakes were stiff, never breezy,
For deals that were made,
Had debts that must be paid,
To keep things at least slightly steady.
14. The righteous stay out of the fray,
While pragmatists find their own way,
For politics bends,
To suit shifting friends,
And values may fade, day by day.
15. Reform moves as slow as a snail,
Each promise, now slightly more pale,
Yet still, we hold tight,
To dreams left in sight,
Hoping someday, they’ll prevail.
16. A statesman speaks words that inspire,
A politician climbs higher, never lower,
And when comes the day,
They’ve nothing to say,
They’ll trade all their truths, and their mothers, for power
17. The people, they listen, they see,
They know what is, and could be,
But patience runs thin,
As old games begin,
Will hope turn to apathy?
