#politics #malaysia #election Professor James Chin - No Major Reforms From Anwar as He Still Needs Malay Votes for GE16 (Apologies for the audio quality in this episode - technical issues got in the way, but we couldn’t let this conversation go unheard. Thanks for sticking with DoMore!) Anwar Ibrahim is in power, but does he really have the people's support? Malaysia’s political landscape is shifting, and the Malay community’s stance on Anwar, the rise of PAS, and the power of Sabah and Sarawak are shaping what happens next. In this episode, we break down why the Malays haven’t rallied behind Anwar, how economic struggles fuel political discontent, and why social media is rewriting the rules of the game. But here’s the real question: Can Anwar deliver? With UMNO losing ground, Sabah and Sarawak demanding more control, and economic recovery tied to political survival, his leadership is on the clock. Will reforms and stability win him long-term support, or is Malaysia heading toward another political shake-up? Tune in to get the full picture. KUALA LUMPUR, March 23, 2025: Prof Dr James Chin says Malaysians should not expect Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Anwar Ibrahim to make any reforms for the rakyat dan negara (people and country).
Anwar is still struggling to win the crucial Malay votes for his and Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s survival - any chance for reforms can/may come after the next general election (GE16) which must be held in 2027.
Why isn’t Anwar winning back Malay support for himself, PKR and PH despite his many efforts to champion the Muslims’ cause.
One view is: The Malays do not fancy Anwar and PH to be working with the devil - Umno.
Umno has been soundly rejected by the Malays and multiracial Malaysians that Umno is today left with only 26 seats in the 222-seat Parliament.
The Malays today also realise that Umno cannot be trusted to govern Malaysia again duie to their corrupt ways and policies. No?
Umno’s lunatic politics of supporting the disgraced and shameless former prime minister Najib “1MDB” Razak is mind-boggling.
How does one justify supporting a man who stole multiple millions, if not billions, of Ringgit from the rakyat dan negara?
So what now for the general good of Malaysians and Malaysia?
If Anwar cannot deliver, dump him.
Return PH with a strong mandate and force the rise of a new prime minister to try and deliver for multiracial Malaysia.
The Taliban-like PAS and the racist Perikatan Nasional (PN) led by the unpatriotic Muhyiddin “I Am Malay First” Yassin are clearly unaccpetable to multiracial Malaysians.
PAS is a dominant partner in PN which includes Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.

PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad also describes PN as ineffective and disappointing as an opposition bloc in Parliament.
PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said Perikatan Nasional had failed to develop the four states it governs.
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional should showcase its ability to develop the four states it governs and improve their economy if the coalition believes it can do a better job of governing the country, says a PKR leader.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, a PKR vice-president, said the PAS-run states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis have not seen any significant changes in terms of economy and development under opposition rule.
PAS is a dominant partner in Perikatan Nasional, which includes Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.
Nik Nazmi accused PN of failing to improve the economy of these four states (also known as the ‘state government four’ or ‘SG4’).
“The SG4 Group Sdn Bhd set up last year which supposedly would bring economic development to the four states has proven to be impractical and ineffective in developing these states,” he told FMT.
Nik Nazmi, a federal minister, was responding to PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s claim that the opposition coalition was capable of managing the country a lot better than the unity government and would be able to resolve basic issues.
Muhyiddin said Malaysians were going through a difficult time with the prices of goods rising while their income remained stagnant.
Nik Nazmi said Muhyiddin’s short-lived tenure as prime minister was fraught with economic shortcomings while PN has also been ineffective and disappointing as an opposition bloc in Parliament.
He accused the coalition’s MPs of failing to pose substantive and intelligent questions that would ultimately benefit the people in the Dewan Rakyat.
“PN’s shadow Cabinet has also failed to perform as an effective check and balance. They didn’t even offer an alternative budget for the people to evaluate theirs (against the government’s),” he said.
