FMT has sought confirmation from the police.
Zamri was arrested in Perlis yesterday and was brought to the Kangar magistrates’ court this morning for a remand hearing.
A two-day remand order was granted for Zamri to be held in custody to assist in the investigation into an allegedly seditious Facebook post he made concerning the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple in Kuala Lumpur.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said yesterday the case was being investigated under the Sedition Act and the Communications and Multimedia Act for tarnishing the reputation of the Hindu faith through his Facebook post.
The temple had been at the centre of a controversy after it was revealed that the temple was to be relocated as the land was bought by a textile company which planned to build a mosque there. On Tuesday, it was announced that the temple committee had agreed to move 50m away to a 4,000 sq ft site.
Zamri had previously been investigated for a remark about Hindu worshippers performing the kavadi ritual while appearing to be possessed or drunk. Nearly 900 police reports were lodged against him. The investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

The firm agreed not to demolish the temple until its committee agreed on a new site. It also offered to pay for the relocation.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the temple committee had agreed to move 50m away to a new 4,000 sq ft site.
Zamri courted controversy earlier this month after remarking on Facebook that Hindu worshippers performing the kavadi ritual said “vel vel” while appearing to be possessed or drunk.
His remarks followed a controversy surrounding three Era FM radio hosts who were widely criticised for mocking the kavadi ritual. Zamri himself became the subject of nearly 900 police reports.
On March 12, Razarudin said police were awaiting further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers after submitting its investigation papers on the case.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27, 2025: Racial and religious bigoted independent preacher Zamri Vinoth was arrested by police ib Perlis today.
Zamri, believed to be a disciple of Zakir Naik, was arrested in connection with his posting on a temple in here.
Inspector-General of Poliuce (IGP) Razarudin Husain reportedly said Zamri would be brought to a court in Kangar tomorrow for a remand application.
Zakir, a preacher from India, fled his country after he was listed as wanted man by Indian police.
Multiracial Malaysians who cherish national unity and harmony may now perhaps breathe a sigh of relief that police are acting on such a “privileged” bigot.
Hopefully, this case is not just another show like when police questioned Umno youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh and then there was NFA (No Further Action).
