The race to forge united political forces for GE14 has started … 1MDB PM Najib’s Umno-PAS vs Pribumi-Pakatan |
Malaysians are witnessing an amazing political phenomenon never seen before.
1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak is reported to be sealing a political and electoral pact with the Islamist PAS, led by the Umno-loving Hadi Awang. (Read this for context: http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/09/1mdb-pm-najibs-umno-teams-up-with-pas.html
It sure looks almost certain that Najib would be using his power and right to call for a snap 14th General Election (GE14) on the Umno-PAS deal is “inked”.
This means Najib’s Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) is going into GE14 with Umno-PAS Malay power to secure a new mandate to administer Putrajaya (federal government).
What then are the positions of other BN coalition parties like MCA, MIC and Gerakan in peninsular Malaysia?
One word describes their political position in BN and Malaysia … IRRELEVANT! Padan Muka (Good Riddance) to the three lackey parties in BN.
And, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Dr M) and his former deputy Anwar Ibrahim are also desperately trying to unite the Opposition party and their party grassroots and leaders.
With the Umno-PAS tag-team/Malays, the severely fractured Opposition comprises Dr M-Muhyiddin Yassin’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) and Pakatan Harapan (DAP, PKR and PAS-splinter Amanah) also badly needs to go into GE14 as a united force or The Rest of Malaysia (multiracial) to have a chance to unseat BN.
Should Dr M and Anwar fail to forge a united Opposition front, then Umno-PAS will most certainly win GE14 convincingly, and with more seats in Parliament and state legislative assemblies.
And, here’s a malaymail online report re-posted by the Malaysian-banned online news portal Malaysia Chronicle showing how Dr M and Anwar are sending signals to Opposition party grassroots and leaders to unite:
"DR M & ANWAR DISH OUT DOUBLE WHAMMY TO NAJIB WITH FIRST JOINT STATEMENT: ‘DON’T TRY TO BULLY THE AGONG & SULTANS WITH NSC ACT’
Politics | September 19, 2016 by | 0 Comments
KUALA LUMPUR – Long-time political rivals Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a joint statement today opposing the National Security Council (NSC) Act 2016.
The former prime minister and his ex-deputy said that the statement, which had both their signatures, was issued in light of a “national crisis” and in the interest of the people.
“This Act has sidelined the powers and roles of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Malay Rulers in a crucial issue concerning the nation’s security and the liberty of its people,” Anwar and Dr Mahathir said in the statement in Bahasa Malaysia.
“It is because of this national crisis that we, together with the people, object to this Act and bring change and reformation in order to salvage the rights and freedom of the people and to rebuild our beloved country,” they added.
Anwar, when met outside the courtroom at the Kuala Lumpur court complex here, confirmed the authenticity of the statement.
The statement about the controversial NSC Act, which grants the government sweeping emergency powers, came shortly after Dr Mahathir and Anwar shook hands in a courtroom when they met for the first time 18 years after the former sacked the latter from Cabinet. – Malay Mail"
