After the Dr M-Anwar handshake, who’s really worried?

After the Dr M-Anwar handshake, who’s really worried?

After the historic handshake in a court room between former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his former deputy Anwar Ibrahim on Sept 5, 2016, stories are being pumped by the media on the political significance of duo’s coming together.

After 18 years of animosity, the ease of the handshake is politically amazing and telling, to say the least.

In the run-up to the 14th General Election (GE14), Malaysians will be reading, and perhaps get an overdose, many news from various sources.

Whatever, political development surprises will be aplenty until GE14 which is only due in March 2018 but 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak has the right and power to call for GE14 anytime he so wishes.

At the moment, the most popular speculation is that Najib would call be snap GE14 in December 2016 or next March 2017.

And the psychological battle via both print and electronic media between the Umno-led Barisan Nasional and the Opposition Pakatan pact comprising DAP, PKR and Amanah, Bersatu and PAS will just get hotter and hoter for Malaysians.

Here’s a compilation reproduction of three media reports today (Sept 10, 2016) for the convenient reading pleasure of No News Is Bad News readers:

"‘WORRIED LIKE HELL’ NAJIB CAMP PLAYS PSY-WAR TO SPLIT ANWAR & MUHYIDDIN
Politics | September 10, 2016 by | 0 Comments

PETALING JAYA – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s political future is now dependent on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Datuk Seri Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad.

In a statement on Saturday, the Prime Minister’s press secretary said that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s court visit where he had met Anwar demonstrated that Muhyiddin would have to play “second fiddle” to the PKR leader in Dr Mahathir’s alliance with the opposition.

Tengku Sariffuddin said that Muhyiddin was now number two in Mahathir’s party and therefore merely acting as a ‘puppet president having to obey all the commands of a known control freak’.

He also said that Muhyiddin’s political future was now also dependent upon Anwar “as it will be he (Anwar) that says yes or no to Tun Mahathir’s pleadings.
Tengku Sariffuddin added that Muhyiddin’s disloyalty to Umno and the Government has been repaid by “natural justice”.

“What a difference a year makes,” he said.

Meanwhile commenting on Dr Mahathir’s meeting with Anwar, Tengku Sariffuddin said that the move was further evidence of the former Prime Minister’s desperation. – ANN

"EXODUS OUT OF UMNO BEGINS: CITING NAJIB AS THE SOURCE OF TROUBLE, 2 JOHOR WARLORDS QUIT PARTY

Politics | September 10, 2016 by | 0 Comments

Two Johor Umno veterans, Gelang Patah Umno permanent chairperson Baharom Abdul Ghani and Kulai Umno deputy chief Tosrin Jarvanti, have quit the party today.

They both announced their decisions to quit at their respective Umno division annual meetings.

“I declare that I am no longer an Umno member during my speech as permanent chairperson at the Gelang Patah Umno delegates meeting.

“Umno now is no longer the party for Malays but has become the property of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, and cannot be salvaged any more, Baharom posted on his Facebook page.

Baharom was a founding member of Gelang Patah Umno division which he founded in 1994 and was assemblyperson from 1995 to 2004.

In a video excerpt of his speech, Baharom told delegates that Umno’s leadership had refused to accept reality, and that Najib was the source of all the party’s woes.

Meanwhile, Tosrin announced his exit with a symbolic gesture of returning the Umno flag to the Kulai Umno division chief.

“This is the flag that I defended for 49 years, but today I willingly wish to return this flag back to my friend the division chief, with a message to all Umno division chiefs, to take good care of Umno for the Malays,” he said, with some delegates applauding at the end of his speech.

Umno Bhg Gelang Patah yg ku tubuhkan selaku Ketua Penaja 1994 dn sbg Adun 1995-2004.. ku istihar keluar dr mejadi ahli Umno semasa berucap sbg Pengerusi Tetap di Mesy Perwakilan Umno Gelang Patah 10Sep2016.

"UMNO IN DAMAGE CONTROL MODE: AMID SHOCK JOHOR RESIGNATIONS, ANNUAR MUSA INSIST MORE PEOPLE JOINING THAN QUITTING
Politics | September 10, 2016 by | 0 Comments

TANJUNG KARANG – There are more people joining Umno than there are quitting the party.

Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said there will be a few disgruntled people leaving the party when senior leaders, such as former party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, are sacked from Umno or leave the party.

He was commenting on Gelang Patah Umno division permanent chairman Datuk Baharom Abdul Ghani’s dramatic exit from the party Saturday.

Baharom had announced he was quitting Umno during his speech at the event citing dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
Annuar pointed out that hordes of new members were coming into Umno.

“Why must we only talk about the people who are leaving and not about the new members joining Umno?” Annuar asked a press conference after opening the Tanjung Karang Umno division delegates meeting here Saturday.

Annuar said he was certain that thousands of new members had joined Umno in recent times and this was reflected in the big wins in the recent Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.

He said there should not be a syndrome in Umno with everyone accepting the fact that when senior leaders exit, there would be dissatisfied members following suit.

“They are not going be sitting down doing nothing and we know they are going to be new threat as far as we are concerned and we welcome them,” added Annuar.

On another matter, Annuar said Selangor’s success and developed status is a reflection of Umno and Barisan Nasional’s hard work over the years.

“Ever since independence we have had a series of five year plans and towards the end we had the New Economic Policy.

“You can see that Selangor had developed at a much faster pace then other states,” said Annuar.

He said Selangor was able to grow and become a developed state not only due to historical and geographical factors but also because of the political factor under Barisan’s stewardship.

“Selangor was our showcase,” said Annuar adding Selangor’s level of development was also in the forefront due to the strength of past Umno leaders in the state.

He said Selangor was excellent because current Selangor mentri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali received a state that former mentris besar the late Datuk Harun Idris and Datuk Hormat Rafei as well as Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar had built.

“If Azmin was really great, I suggest that we change for a while. Let the Kelantan mentri besar go to Selangor and Azmin become the Kelantan mentri besar,” said Annuar.
He said this will prove if Azmin can develop a state such as Kelantan which is underdeveloped. – ANN"
