DPM Zahid admits 1MDB PM Najib’s Malaysia is in ‘economic crisis’?

This was in 2012 … is it RM1 trillion today?
DPM Zahid admits 1MDB PM Najib’s Malaysia is in ‘economic crisis’?

TheSun in Malaysia reported this: “KUALA LUMPUR – Do not put the blame on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for the turbulent economy the country faced over the past year …”

Is Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi admitting that 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak’s Malaysia is facing an “economic crisis”?

Indeed, who else to blame for Malaysia’s current bad economy?
What’s the status now, after 1996?
That’s the highlight of a compilation of online news reports for the convenient reading of No News Is Bad News readers today:

KUALA LUMPUR – Do not put the blame on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for the turbulent economy the country faced over the past year.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that Najib has done his best in maintaining the country’s economy, and that the economic slowdown was because of the country’s reliance on the global market.

“This economic situation is not only felt by our country, but also elsewhere in the world.

“Najib has tried his level best when global petrol and gas prices went down, and this problem is not his fault,” he said when officiating the Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party annual general meeting, here, today.

Ahmad Zahid said if there were any former prime ministers claiming that the economy was much better during their time, it was because commodity prices were much higher then.

He said one should also not compare Najib’s tenure as the country’s leader to those in the past, as “all leaders have their own challenges because of the political life cycle”.

On Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar’s proposal to allow developers to provide loan facilities to property buyers, Ahmad Zahid said it was never discussed in the Cabinet.

He said Noh would be asked to explain his action to the Cabinet soon.

Noh had, on Sept 8, proposed that eligible developers be allowed to apply for moneylenders’ licences to provide up to 100% loan facilities to overcome difficulties faced by buyers in securing bank loans.

Ahmad Zahid also dismissed MCA religious harmony bureau chairman Datuk Ti Lian Ker’s suggestion that Umno practises scare tactics like saying “the Chinese are coming and the Malays are under siege” as a clarion call for Malays and Muslims to stand together.

He stressed that there have never been any attempts by Umno to scare voters, and that whatever the party was doing was to persuade and convince them.

Ti said in a statement last week that Malays today can no longer be “cowed into succumbing or falling into or under the Umno political umbrella” while their insecurity complex can no longer be exploited.

“Instead of caving in to these fear tactics, they are now gaining in confidence and self-esteem that allows them to think out of the old political or feudalistic mindset,” said Ti.

The Umno acting deputy president also took a swipe at Ti for denouncing the party, saying that matters such as this should be discussed privately among coalition members.

“I’m confident that whatever personal opinion that any of Barisan Nasional party leader may have, it is best discussed through the right channel like BN’s supreme council meeting,” he said. – Sundaily

"A DELIBERATE INSULT TO ALL MALAYSIAN CHINESE? WE UMNO ARE ‘TERROR’ & STRONG, WE CAN WIN EVEN IF WE ARE ‘BONGKAK’ – NAZRI

Politics | September 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments

On a nice sunny, Sunday morning the relaxing long weekend break gets shattered with unimagined revelation, threat and arrogance of the highest degree from Najib Abdul Razak’s loyal minister.

Will Najib sack him immediately to seal his promises to the rakyat of a ‘1Malaysia’ realisation? Or will he maintain his trademark silence while quietly toasting to Nazri Aziz’s most divisive, revealing and insulting challenge?

Making direct reference to MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker’s urging for Umno to abandon ‘jaguh kampung’ politics, this none other than Umno’s henchman, the supreme council member Nazri, threatened MCA to quit the Bugis ship.

In his outburst, the controversial minister has revealed that indeed Umno thrives on ‘village’ votes. It is this Umno’s ‘jaguh kampung’ politics that has been determining the fate and failures of this nation. And is this not what the civil society leaders were saying all this while, ie that there is no democracy in Umno’s politics?

MCA may not even have won its seven parliamentary seats if not for the ‘jaguh kampung’, said Nazri, and suggested that the Chinese-based party quit BN to prove it could win without Umno.

His challenge to MCA to quit BN to “prove it could win without Umno” is not only an insult to every Chinese Malaysian who stood by the party in good times and bad these past five over decades, but also tests MCA to the hilt.

If indeed MCA is influential and a party relevant for the times, it will pick up the gauntlet and show the finger to Umno now. It will best leave, join Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s fleet and wage war on arrogant Umno.

Nazri is no different from his lord and master, Najib. He affirms what Najib has been milking with his purse full of donation. Umno’s focus and best bet is being confirmed as one that is merely ‘jaguh Melayu’.

This whole yarn of ‘1Malaysia’ sold to BN all this while is a plain con. How can you be ‘jaguh rakyat’ when you just confirmed that the current leadership is one that subscribes to ‘jaguh Melayu’ which alone guaranteed return to power?

By shouting down at Ti to “not talk big”, Umno has insulted all the Chinese Malaysians.

The challenge thrown to MCA to test itself outside the BN fold, clearly affirms that Umno knows nothing about gratitude. It is also now left to be proven by the MCA leaders if they do have any ‘maruah’ left in their veins.

Nazri said, “I advise him, if he thinks MCA is so strong, quit BN and contest alone for us to see. Don’t talk big.”

Will Ti who is from a ‘small party’ (as challenged) show Umno how David did slay Goliath or will he turn sheepish and wag a tiny tail with apologies for having offended his ‘dedak’ master?

And that final nail that Nazri drove into the coffin is this: “We Umno are terer (terror, awesome) and strong. Even if we are bongkak (arrogant), we can still win.”

Over to you, MCA and MIC.

‘For 30 years, you played along with Umno’s game plan.’

MCA leader: If Dr M can change, Umno can drop ‘spook minorities’ tactics too

Roger 5201: MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker is part of the party responsible for the mess we are in today.

Why is he talking as if MCA has no part in this “scare tactics which no longer work like they used to” scheme in the era of 1Malaysia? Or was 1Malaysia merely propaganda?

Tan Kim Keong: If what he says is correct, why is Ti in MCA then – a component of the government that is hell-bent on maintaining racial supremacy and religious bigotry?

6th Generation Immigrant: Yes, correctly spoken, but I would advise that MCA take a real hard look at the mirror, to self-evaluate like former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad did.

When starting up as a political association, MCA supported and worked with Onn Jaafar (that failed) but then switched allegiance after HS Lee and Ong Yoke Lin clicked with the Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Like Ti said, times have changed but MCA remains a dinosaur political party created pre-independence. They are detached from the rakyat. Can anyone from MCA think outside of the BN box?

The Mask: Ti, you may have seen the light, but tell this to your boss, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai. He is still in dreamland.

The Umno ship is slowly but surely sinking, especially with all the big guns gathering under Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia).

What big guns have you got in Umno or BN?

Amateur: Ti, what you said is right. That’s why we now see the birth of Bersatu. But who are you to lecture your big boss openly?

Sooner or later, MCA would pacify them by saying this is only your opinion and not MCA’s. Get yourself prepared to be disciplined soon.

Vision2020: MCA is part of Umno’s race and religion narrative, and it was necessary in order for MCA to stay relevant in the Malaysian political landscape after the May 13, 1969 incident.

New Dawn: MCA is telling Umno to change, but first, has MCA itself done anything to change its own tattered image?

Drngsc: Ti, if you wish to fight for a multiracial Malaysia, then leave MCA. Otherwise, what you say sounds hollow.

Ng Sim Bee: MCA and Gerakan should also change their game plan too. You must realise that the Chinese support DAP because of the unfair implementation of the New Economic Policy (NEP).

Talk to your partners in BN. Tell them the Chinese are not against the NEP in principle, it’s the deviations from the NEP that has put us off.

MalaysianCowsDoFlies: You can start with dissolving MCA and all other race-based parties. What Malaysia needs for the future are parties that can build this country for all Malaysians.

Unafraid: Clearly the age-old Umno strategies to sow fear and doubt in Malay hearts and minds no longer hold. Every time the same old lines are repeated till they sound hollow and hackneyed.

There are also the Umno lackeys who are paid to drum up the emotions of the Malays against an imagined threat by the Chinese and the Christians to their rights, race and religion.

After a while, all these do not have any effect anymore and the rakyat are fed up of such below-the-belt strategies of Umno. Come on, it’s time to grow up.

Senior: Umno needs a bogeyman to keep in check the uninformed Malays, so don’t expect the party to change.

HaveAGreatDay: This is too little and too late to salvage 40 over years of being servile to Umno.

Talk is cheap. You must dare to take the bull by its horns. You can’t just keep silent whenever there’s injustice just because you are afraid to anger your political master.

On top of that, of great concern to the thinking rakyat is the siphoning of billions of 1MDB funds – where are you folks in demanding accountability from MO1?

Mosquitobrain: Ti, the Malay supremacy mentality is not going to change. ‘Keling and Cina kwai’ will still be ‘keling and Cina kwai’.

For cocky Umno, just as MO1 has said, it’s, “I’m not scared of anyone.” Ti, you should instead prepare to have your head chopped off.

TimesAchanging: Ti should make it a point to attend Umno general assemblies and listen intently to the things they say there. And he should also monitor everything the red shirts, Perkasa, Isma say.

The rhetoric has increased, not decreased.

"BN IN CRISIS: NOW ZAHID SAYS GERAKAN ‘MISUNDERSTOOD REAL MEANING’ OF HIS SPEECH – WILL CHANG YEOW SLINK OFF

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi(pic) says the misunderstanding over his comments regarding the need for Barisan component parties to adopt a common template for their election machinery in order to wrest Penang has been resolved.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president said Penang Barisan chairman Teng Chang Yeow had misunderstood his remarks on the matter.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, when opening the Balik Pulau Umno division meeting on Saturday, had said that other Barisan component parties must emulate the Umno election machinery to garner victory.

Teng responded in a statement that Barisan lost Penang not because of a weak election machinery or lack of unity but because of Umno.

Teng had said that there was no reason to re-open “old wounds” and that it was time to rectify and strengthen cooperation within Barisan.

“I have resolved the matter with Teng, who is the Penang Barisan chairman. He was not present when I made my remarks in Balik Pulau,” said Dr Ahmad Zahid when asked about the matter during his media conference after opening Makkal Sakti’s eigth annual general assembly.

“After he (Teng) got an explanation from Penang Umno chief Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman and Penang Umno secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, he realised that he had misunderstood the real meaning of my speech,” he added.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said that in his speech, he had urged all Barisan component parties in Penang to use a common template if they wanted to wrest back Penang.

“The advice was well-received by Barisan component parties in Penang,” he said.

He added that any personal political views by Barisan leaders, should best be conveyed at its supreme council meeting.

“Don’t use other mediums to express differences of opinions,” he said. – ANN

"CASH-STRAPPED NAJIB REGIME PUTS THE SQUEEZE ON DOCTORS: ANOTHER VOTER BANK LOST TO BN
Politics | September 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments

I went to hospital today for treatment.

Old ailment working up again.

Bumped into a schoolfriend who is a surgeon there.

We had lunch and talked quite a bit about what is happening ever since we last met about a year ago.

She was apparently worried over the latest directive by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) on tax treatment for doctors at private hospitals like her,

She said the directive, issued earlier this week requires tax treatment for doctors like her be based on personal basis instead of Sdn Bhd as had been the practice all these while.

Like most other doctors at private hospitals, my friend had set up a Sdn Bhd company and received her service fees from the hospital through it.

She technically provides her services via her own company while “renting” facilities at the hospital.

“What I understand is that the tax I paid via my company over the past three years since I’m at this hospital will not be counted. I have to pay a new sum on personal basis and on top of that I have to pay penalties,” my friend said.

“I had done the calculations and it looks like I have to pay about RM1.3 million for the whole sum. I’m not really sure where I’m going to get that much money, as the deadline is on December 15.

“My lawyer said I can’t fight this one as I will surely lose and they will punish me further later on,” she added.

She said she had always paid her taxes on time and as according to the normal practice.

“If the method of my payment was wrong, why did they only tell me about it now. I have no intention of cheating the government. It’s just that I followed the practice which have been in place all these while.”

My friend said the Malaysian Medical Association had told the over 3,000 affected doctors nationwide not to fight the IRB directive.

“Even our association had abandoned us. They even told us not to make noise about this,” she lamented.

“Talks among my fellow doctors is that they will go after those who run private clinics after this,” she added.

My friend, who is an Umno member also told me that the government’s standing among the affected doctors is not very good at the moment for obvious reason.

Hopefully the IRB can come up with some sorts of mechanism so that the doctors will not be too burdened by the whole thing.

I don’t think it’s wise to be harsh towards those doctors at this moment in time.

They save lives, okay.

We should at least appreciate them for that.

It’s also not such a good thought to have 3,000 doctors joining the rank of people who hate the government.

Especially now.

Anyway, I’m writing this while laying down on my bed.

The doctor who treated me today told me to rest my body as much as I can to avoid aggravating my old ailment.
