Will the Umno-led BN federal government act against the Red Shirt hooligans?

Will the Umno-led BN federal government act against the Red Shirt hooligans?

On Oct 9, 2016, the Sunday that Umno-linked Red Shirt hooligans resorted to public intimidation and physical violence to try and derail the Bersih (Clean) 5 nationwide convoy, Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin reportedly urged the police to take action.

Was his statement to the media just a sandiwara (play acting) or sincere?

Does he not know that the Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos-led Red Shirts are closely linked to the Umno leadership?

So, was Khairy just only acting out the “good cop, bad cop” scene for political mileage?

And yesterday (Oct 10, 2016), Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong parroted Khairy, urging the police to act swiftly against the Red Shirt hooligans.

Gerakan also lodged a police report calling on the cops to investigate a social media post allegedly made by Jamal threatening a repeat of the May 13 riots.

No matter how much the Red Shirt hooligans have embarrassed the federal government and Malaysia, does any Malaysian really believe real stern action will be taken against Jamal and his band of hooligans?

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin criticised today the Red Shirt movement’s supporters for allegedly assaulting a Bersih activist.

Astro Awani reported Khairy as saying in a press conference that democracy does not allow the use of violence and physical aggression to express one’s views.

“I saw the video yesterday, where a group of Red Shirts attacked the Bersih activist by kicking him and using physical force. We can’t accept this. Whoever’s involved, we must criticise violent acts,” Khairy was quoted as saying.

“We must accept the expression of various stands in a democracy. However, not to the point of violence that can threaten the safety of the individuals involved,” he added.

Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister, reportedly urged the police to take action.

The Sun reported today Selangor police chief Datuk Abu Samah Mat as saying that three Red Shirts have been detained for rioting after a Bersih supporter lodged a police report.

Bersih 2.0 is touring the country ahead of the Bersih 5 rally on November 19, but the Red Shirts have tried to disrupt the polls reform group’s convoy in several locations.

Bersih 2.0 accused the Red Shirts, led by Sungai Besar Umno division leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, of causing serious injuries to a Bersih supporter, who was allegedly pulled off his motorbike, kicked and punched.

The Red Shirts allegedly assaulted two Bersih supporters on motorcycles and threw eggs at them in Sabak Bernam, Selangor. - The Malay Mail online

Probe May 13 posting, says Gerakan Youth

BY AUSTIN CAMOENS

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan Youth has called on the police to investigate a social media post allegedly made by Red Shirt leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos threatening a repeat of the May 13 riots.

Gerakan Youth deputy Andy Yong urged the police to investigate whether the posting on Facebook was true.

“We refer to the post ‘Saya berjanji Tragedi 13 MAY akan berulang dan PARANG TERBANG akan terjadi jika BERSIH 5 dibuat pada masa, tarikh dan tempat yang sama dengan perhimpunan #BERSIH5 yang dijadualkan pada 19 November ini. Hidup Melayu!’ (I promise the May 13 tragedy will be repeated and parang will fly if Bersih 5 is held at the same time, date and place as the #BERSIH5 rally scheduled for November 19. Long live the Malays!).”

Yong was speaking to reporters after lodging a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters yesterday.

He said he was aware that Jamal claimed the Facebook account on which the statement was posted was fake and did not belong to him.

“If it was Jamal who posted it, I hope the police will take stern action against him for sedition.

“If it was a fake account, I hope the necessary action is taken to find the true culprits and bring them to justice,” he said.

Yong also urged police to take appropriate action against those responsible for the provocations in Teluk Intan, Sabak Bernam and Gurney Drive in Penang recently.

In Ipoh, Perak DAP and Amanah Youth want the police and Umno to take stern action against some of the Red Shirt protesters, especially Jamal, over the alleged assault on some Bersih members recently.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said the assault clearly showed how violent and arrogant the Red Shirt protesters were, especially their leader, Jamal.

“We urge Bukit Aman to take swift action against these people, who clearly want to provoke racial tensions and also cause problems.

“They can kick the heads of the convoy participants.

“Is this allowed?

“If you’re a man, fight one on one. Why a group must whack one person?

“The police were also there, so it’s about time they (Red Shirt protesters) were arrested and charged in court,” said Nga at a press conference at the state party headquarters in Medan Istana.

Amanah youth chief Mohd Fitri Asmuni also held a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Greentown to condemn the actions of the Red Shirt protesters and urged Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to take stern action against Jamal.

“We were stopped by these people and some of our members were injured. It shouldn’t have happened, especially in a democratic country.

“Umno should be accountable because the man leading this group is a division chief,” said Mohd Fitri.

He hoped the Red Shirt protesters would not cause problems on Nov 19 and urged police to continue being professional by giving the people a chance to voice their thoughts peacefully during the gathering. - The Star online

"malaysiakini - Gerakan Youth has urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to put an end to red shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos' plans once and for all.

The wing's deputy chief Andy Yong said although Jamal and some Umno leaders have claimed the movement is not linked to Umno, the fact is that Jamal is the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.

"Surely, being the president of Umno, Najib can take action as Jamal is the Sungai Besar division chief.

"Not to mention the other Umno members who are clearly involved," he told Malaysiakini today.

Yong pointed out that Najib's 1Malaysia concept is about unity in diversity and inclusiveness as well as accepting and celebrating differences, not mere tolerance or respect.

"The PM also has been advocating moderation, which should be the way to move forward. He is the PM for all Malaysians," he added.

Though conceding that it is the right of any group to assemble and protest lawfully, Yong cited the violent acts the red shirts have perpetrated.

Yesterday, Yong led a Gerakan Youth delegation to lodge a police report on a Facebook post allegedly made by Jamal, by threatening a repeat of the May 13, 1969, incident.

He said while Jamal had claimed the post was from a fake account, the police must investigate whether or not it had actually come from him.

Apart from this, Yong also urged the police to take action on the fracas that took place recently, such as the ones in Teluk Intan, Sabak Bernam and Gurney Drive, where the red shirts confronted participants of the Bersih 5 convoy.
