Some of the major issues in GE13 and all are still relevant and have even deteriorated further |
Former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin tells Malaysians that the ruling Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government can lose the next general election (GE14) with just a 4% swing in votes.
Well, that may be accurate and true but there is a big “IF”! It may/can only happen IF the Opposition is united, i.e to say Pakatan Harapan (comprising DAP, PKR and Amanah) and Muhyiddin’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) can achieve 100% unity to ensure that GE14 is a straight fight between Pakatan-Bersatu and BN-PAS.
Is it possible to see such a united Opposition? Yes, very slim chance indeed. (Read these for context: http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/08/malaysians-may-just-have-to-continue.html and http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/08/1mdb-najib-led-umno-to-rule-malaysia.html)

"Muhyiddin: 4% swing and BN will lose 45 seats

Former DPM stands by his claim that Najib had almost RM4 billion in his accounts, and says to ask Gani Patail for more information.
SABAK BERNAM: Barisan Nasional is not as strong as it appears to be, and it can easily lose 45 seats in the next general election, according to former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Speaking at an anti-1MDB ceramah last night, he said a study had shown the BN loss could come from a shift of votes from a small number of voters to the Opposition.
“My research showed that BN has 67 seats that are shaky.
“In a study conducted by experts I appointed, it was revealed that with just a four per cent shift in votes, 45 of BN’s seats will go to the opposition,” he told a crowd of around 500 at the ceramah, held as part of an anti-1MDB road show organised by PKR.
Muhyiddin, currently the pro-tem president of Umno splinter group Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was urging for unity among the Opposition parties, stressing the necessity to ensure a straight fight during elections to come.
The ceramah centred on 1Malaysia Development Bhd which was re-labelled as “1Malaysia Dalam Bahaya” (1Malaysia In Danger).
Muhyiddin responded to those who had questioned his claim last week that the Prime Minister, Najib Razak, had almost RM1 billion in his personal accounts before receiving a further RM2.6 billion.
In a speech in Ketereh, Kelantan, last week, Muhyiddin said the information had come from Abdul Gani Patail, then Attorney-General.
In response to a challenge by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said Muhyiddin should furnish evidence for his claim, Muhyiddin responded by saying: “Don’t have to question me where I got the information from. I told you it came from the former AG. If you want to know more, then ask him.”
Last night’s ceramah was attended by parliamentary opposition leader and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
This was the first leg of the nationwide road show for voters in rural and semi-urban areas, to explain how the 1MDB issue would affect their lives."
And, now it appears that Umno seems to be treating the Chinese-majority DAP as its No.1 political enemy and threat?
Why? Some 60% of Malaysia’s 30 million population are Malays. Why then is the DAP more a political threat to Umno, instead of Malay or Malay-majority parties like PAS, PKR and Amanah?
That’s because Umno is wary of DAP’s efforts to attract more and more Malays, even those from Umno, to join the multi-racial DAP.
This is what was reported by FMT today (Sept 3, 2016):

Supreme Council man reminds Umno members to stop infighting and bickering over 1MDB and other issues. “You should be attacking Lim Guan Eng, reclamation, and the latest, a YB’s father playing middle-man"
GEORGE TOWN: Umno members have been urged to stop in-fighting and bickering over such matters as 1MDB and to attack the opposition, especially enemy No. 1, the DAP.
“By right, you should be attacking Lim Guan Eng, the reclamation issue here and the latest – a Penang YB’s father playing middle-man for public housing,” he said when opening Bayan Baru Umno’s delegates’ conference here last night.
Ismail reminded the 395 delegates present, Umno can easily win many seats in Penang again.
However, Umno’s in-fighting “has made us weak”, he said, blaming the opposition parties for causing chaos and disunity among the Malay community.
Ismail Sabri said the DAP was leading the charge, pitting Umno members against each other as well. It was time for Umno to attack the Opposition with full speed ahead, as the opposition was at their weakest.
“The 1MDB issue has sunk,” he said. “Look at Sarawak, we have won. Two by-elections, we won.”
Yet many Umno members had resorted to attacking party president and Prime Minister, Najib Razak, over 1MDB even though Najib had been absolved of any wrongdoing.
“The auditor-general, MACC, the police, even the Public Accounts Committee, has cleared Najib of wrongdoing. Even a Big Four accounting company has said there was nothing wrong. But we are too ‘taksub’ with attacking our dear president and prime minister,” he said.
“I mean, come on, even drug addicts are first investigated, then charged and go for trial before being decided if they are guilty or not. But we treat our PM as if he was guilty right away, despite almost all authorities having cleared him of wrongdoing.”
Ismail said the agenda of the opposition, led by the DAP, was aimed at dividing Umno. “See, now the Malays have been divided to six parties… the latest being Bersatu and Amanah. What are we doing to get them back into our fold?”
“Pakatan Harapan members have been sleeping for a very long time knowing that people might vote them in again. It is time to get our priorities straight!” Ismail said."
And this is what a Malay leader in DAP has to say about Umno as posted by FMT today (Sept 3, 2016):
"Syerleena cites cases of ‘Umno cheating Malays’

Penang land deal involving two Umno men, 80 families evicted for Pelangi beach resort, 300 acres of Malay reserve in Redang 'sold to Vincent Tan'.
PETALING JAYA: Stepping into a row about whether Umno has cheated the Malay people, Penang DAP’s Syerleena Abdul Rashid backed her party comrade Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud by citing several land deals as examples.
Speaking to FMT, Syerleena cited several deals involving Malay reserve land being sold, including one in Penang in 2012 involving two Umno politicians, and another involving tycoon Vincent Tan.
She said that 31 Malay land owners in Kampung Terang, Penang, sold their land in 2012 to Masion Heights Sdn Bhd for approximately RM8.56 million.
“The company later sold the land to Kay Pride Sdn Bhd for RM13.45 million making RM5 million profit in five months.” She said the two directors of the company were Penang Umno vice chairman Musa Sheikh Fadzir and Barisan Nasional elections chairman Omar Faudzar.
Another example she cited was the eviction of 80 families from Pantai Chenang, Langkawi, in 1990. “Their homes were on Malay reserve land which was sold off for Pelangi beach resort. Similarly in Pulau Redang (Terengganu) 300 acres of Malay reserve land were sold and awarded to Vincent Tan for tourism development,” she said.
(Two resorts on Pulau Redang are owned by the Berjaya group of companies, which is controlled by billionaire businessman Vincent Tan.)
Syerleena’s remarks came in response to a challenge from Raja Sara Petra, daughter of blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, for DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud to explain in what way Umno has cheated the Malays.
Dyana had alleged that Umno had cheated Malays when several Umno members left to join the DAP, declaring that they wanted to be free of a political party that claimed to represent the community.
Syerleena also gave other example of how the Malay people had been cheated by Umno.
She claimed that there had been a misuse of Islamic funds by Tabung Haji when the pilgrims fund acquired land for RM188.5 million in a deal that has been linked to the 1MDB scandal.
A former Umno assemblyman Mohammad Lan Allani, chairman of investment for Mara, an agency to assist the development of Malays in Malaysia, was implicated in an Australian land deal in which Mara was alleged to have overpaid for property in Melbourne.
Syerleena said Raja Sara Petra should also check her father’s blog for more evidence because, in the past, he had been very vocal about Umno’s wrongdoings."
And this is the scariest of all for Malaysians and it is highlighted by former premier of 22 years, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. This was posted y the Malaysian-banned online news portal Malaysia Chronicle:
"MAHATHIR BOMBSHELL: WITH DICTATOR BILL, NAJIB IS SO POWERFUL HE CAN ‘KILL’ ANYONE & NO ONE CAN CATCH HIM

1. I was forced to read through the Constitution of Malaysia and the National Security Council Act 2016, in order to understand the need or otherwise of the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister in ensuring the security of the country.
2. I don’t think anyone would want to read through especially the National Security Council Act 2016. Still I feel a need to summarise the powers accorded the Prime Minister by comparison to the powers accorded the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
3. While the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong give due consideration to the rights and freedom of a citizen when he is to be detained, the power of the Prime Minister under the National Security Act is almost unlimited.
4. The action may be taken by the Director of Operations but the ultimate power rests with the Prime Minister as Chairman of the National Security Council.
5. For easy reading I list below the power of the Prime Minister:
I. Set up National Security Council
II. Chair the Council
III. Council advise the Prime Minister i.e. to himself
IV. Power to –
(a) Exclude and evacuate persons
(b) Declare Curfew
(c) Control movement, road, waterway, aircraft.
(d) Arrest persons
(e) Search and seize
(f) Search premises for dangerous things.
V. Search person for dangerous things
VI. Seize vehicle, vessel, aircraft or conveyance
VII. Power to take temporary possession of land, building or movable property
IX. Demand for use of resources
X. Power to order destruction of certain unoccupied buildings.
XI. Power to use reasonable and necessary force.
XII. Power to dispense with inquests etc
XIII. Obligations of secrecy
XIV. Protection against suits and legal proceedings
XV. Status of a public servant
6. The need to let the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decide on the declaration of Emergency is because the laws which protect citizens and ensure justice will be suspended when Emergency is declared. The rule of law will be ignored.
7. But now the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has become superfluous. Najib as Chairman of the Council advising Najib as the Prime Minister will have the right to disregard the laws and exercise the powers listed above. Najib’s rights are far more numerous and superior by comparison with the rights and power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. There is no more need for reference or approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Najib as Chairman of the Council simply advises himself as the Prime Minister.
8. He can use “reasonable force” and dispense with any inquest should an enforcement officer or the person apprehended dies. He is fully protected against suits and legal proceedings. All proceedings of the Council will be official secret. No member of the Council may reveal anything, including apparently criminal acts committed.
9. This Act relegates the Constitution to the back burner. It is wrong of course. The Constitution, we all proudly declare is the Supreme Law of this great nation. But no one is going to do anything when it is breached. – http://chedet.cc/"
Given all the above, isn’t it easy to understand why the rich are fleeing Malaysia (Read these for context: http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/08/today-malaysians-are-worth-less-than-5.html and http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/08/millionaires-fleeing-malaysia-faster.html)?
And why is Malaysia facing a fast deteriorating socio-economic political crisis “powered” by the 1Malaysia Developmnent Berhad (1MDB)-linked alleged global multi-billion-dollar/ringgit money-laundering probe by some 10 countries.
The probes resulted in 1MDB-linked assets and financial facilities being frozen in the countries investigating the scandal.
And, the ringgit is now widely rejected in international trading, further squeezing Malaysia’s economy and financial woes.
With Malaysia’s federal debt, perhaps having surpassed RM1 trillion (Read this for context: http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/08/has-malaysias-federal-debt-surpassed.html) who then is suffering economically and saddled with having to settle the country’s debts?
Of course it is the ordinary Malaysians, irrespective of race or religion … the rich and those with BN-Umno political connections and patronage remain unaffected, and continue to live luxuriously.
