Malaysians have all eyes on the Special Meeting of the Conference of Rulers tomorrow (Oct 14, 2016) to elect the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King).

This is because they have hope that the wisdom of their Malay rulers would elect a King for the rakyat (people) who would be proactive to lead Malaysians and Malaysia to a progressive and harmonious socio-economic nation.

Malaysians are today relatively miserable, having not only to struggle to make ends meet to put food on the table for their loved ones daily amid a fast weakening Ringgit, but also to put up with the politics of graft that is crippling the economy.

And graft has left Malaysia in the international media limelight for all the wrong reasons, thus affecting the confidence of both local and foreign investors.

For the many who have placed high hopes on the Malay rulers and the new King to put the brakes on the country’s deteriorating state of affairs are really expecting too much.

After all, the Malay rulers and the King are only humans. They cannot be expected to deliver miracles in the administration of the country.

After the election of the King and his deputy at the end of the three-day Conference of Rulers tomorrow, the conference is likely to issue a statement.

Those who have placed high hopes on a strong and powerful statement to intervene in Malaysia’s current socio-economic political predicament and impasse are likely to be disappointed.

An anti-climax of sorts if they had hoped for the rulers to intervene in the political affairs and administration of the country.

The fate, administration and political affairs of Malaysians and Malaysia are in the hands of the rakyat, the government of the day and Parliament.

Simply put it, the rakyat is solely responsible for their own future in electing a competent government of the day.
