"‘I DIDN’T APPOINT SABAH DUO, I DON’T EVEN KNOW THEM’: SHAFIE SLAMS ‘MALICIOUS’ PAIRIN, ANIFAH FOR TRYING TO PIN RM3.3BIL GRAFT SCANDAL ON HIM

KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said today that prematurely blaming him for the Sabah Water Department corruption scandal was a political move with malicious intentions.

Shafie said he was surprised by allegations from his former friend and Sabah deputy chief minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who had said that RM3.3 billion worth of federal funds came from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry during his tenure.

“I have known Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan for several decades now and regard him as a friend with a long tenure of administrative experience and I am surprised that he had specifically made some malicious inference when he mentioned that the projects allegedly connected to the corruption scandals were awarded in 2010 during my tenure as minister of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry,” Shafie said at a press conference.

“What is even more surprising is that he qualified his statement on the projects by specifically throwing malicious inferences that the projects were not handled by his state ministry,” he said, in denying his involvement in the scandal.

When asked why the state government had pointed the projects towards him, Shafie said it was “politics”.

“Let the evidence prevail. I’m not pointing the blame at anyone but I didn’t have anything to do with the two. I didn’t appoint them, I didn’t engage with them, I don’t even know them,” he said, referring to two top officers of the Sabah Water Department who were recently arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"PERAK WILL BE THE NEXT TO SHAKE: DR M’S BERSATU IS MOVING FAST, NAJIB FEELS THE HEAT – FORMER UMNO LEADER HAMIDAH OSMAN
Politics | October 9, 2016 by | 0 Comments

MANJUNG – Umno is challenged by the presence of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi), said Pribumi Perak representative Datuk Hamidah Osman.

The former Gopeng Umno Wanita Chief said on Sunday the party may only be one month old but they are not moving like a new party.

“We are moving fast to ensure that we can rule the country in the next election. Umno doesn’t look at any other parties as a challenge but Pribumi challenges them,” she said.

Hamidah described this situation as a healthy challenge for Pribumi.

“It shows that the party is healthy. I urge the members to continue moving. They shouldn’t be undeterred,” said Hamidah.

Speaking to a crowd at a Perak Pribumi function at EMV Seri Manjung Hall, Hamidah said that the party’s members would go to the ground and meet the public.

“From villages to cities, we will go and meet the people and tell them about our struggle,” she said.

Hamidah was one of the party leaders at the function as her speech was watched by Pribumi chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, president Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.
